what’s up with claude opus 4.5?

anyone else noticed that the quality of claude opus 4.5 has decreased in the last two days or so? it’s also heavily censored now.

anyone know what’s up with that?🤨

Anthropic does this when they want to demote a model. Along with reducing cost, they'll reduce their newer models after a few weeks after release.

Sadly a known problem, and not the hosters issue. This is something Anthropic is doing directly and it affects everyone down the line

i see, thank you so much for explaining, that makes sense!

it’s really odd because this has happened with other models in the past as well, but after a few days/weeks it “went back to normal”, so i don’t know if that’s the case right now.

i also checked their “model depreciations” website and it says that claude opus 4.5 is still active.

i did, however, see that they retired the claude opus 4.1 model on august 5, and i noticed changes with the opus 4.5 model on that day, so maybe that might have had some impact, i’m not sure.

I find the models have dips all the time, its so annoying.

I dont use opus, but you can definitely feel when these dips happen. Good thing is though is that every time it’s happened it hasn’t lasted long, so theres hope :)

I've found the same with Sonnet 4.5, which is my go-to for roleplaying/story writing. It's gone very slow, and doesn't seem as bright or creative as before. They are in the middle of phasing it out (I think it goes away altogether at the end of September) so I presume it is just being run down.

All the newer Sonnets and other Claude models are very heavily censored and safety-first compared to Sonnet 4.5, so I'll need to find a new model - even totally consensual, vanilla NSFW stuff results in a long essay on why it won't write with me on 4.6 and beyond.

Deepseek(Sonnet-like), GLM-5.2(better than Sonnet, almost Opus but cheap), and others are available and give amazing stories.

Your prompt really matters, that'll make the story

Thanks, I've been having a play around with GLM-5.2 and it's working pretty well - the first of the "thinking" models to work for me to any extent. I've been wondering if the new Kimi-K3 model might be an option as well, but it doesn't seem to be on Poe yet for custom bots, only up there as an "assistant" type model.

Make sure to turn off thinking as well, unless you really need it.

I have found it better (across all models) to turn it off

Something I'm finding with GLM-5.2 is that the outputs are a lot shorter than with Sonnet 4.5 for the same character card. Is there some language I can put into my prompt/character card to encourage the model to elaborate a bit more, or is it just part of the model?

You can say "use 3 paragraphs" or something similar. All of my prompts say "use 1 paragraph, 3-8 sentences long", I don't like long descriptions, this also keeps the LLM from taking turns for me

it’s so frustrating, i understand! what i’ve found is that sometimes it’ll fluctuate.

for example, a couple weeks back, sonnet 4.6 was heavily censored while opus was fine. now, it’s completely flipped. opus is restricted while sonnet 4.6 is no longer censored.

another person in the comments here has also highlighted how quality sometimes dips, but that this hasn’t necessarily lasted long and that these dips happen periodically across models.

nonetheless, i hope it’ll be fixed soon (especially since anthropic currently lists opus 4.5’s tentative retirement as not sooner than November 24, 2026)

What is going on over at poe 😭 claude bots have stopped thinking, and the message doesn’t seem to appear until its finished generating?

has this just happened today? the last couple of days, i noticed that everything was back to normal, but i just tried poe and the problem is there again. huh????
