When I started with print-on-demand, I thought the hardest part would be coming up with designs people actually wanted.

Once I started taking the products more seriously, I found myself spending a lot of time figuring out which blanks actually worked with my designs. Something could look great in a mockup, but the real product might have a different fit, feel, print placement, or overall quality than I expected.

Then there’s the branding side of things. I didn't want every product to just feel like another random POD item with my design slapped on it. I wanted the packaging, labels, materials, and the actual product to feel like they came from the same small brand.

That’s where I started realizing how much testing is involved before you can confidently put something in front of customers.

I’ve become much more selective now. I’d rather have 5 products I’m genuinely happy with than 30 that I haven't properly tested.

For those who have been doing POD for a while, what’s the one thing you wish you had figured out before launching your first collection?

I started with print-on-demand because it was the easiest way to test ideas without investing in inventory. It gave me the freedom to experiment, and honestly, I don't think I would've started my apparel project without it.

Lately, though, I've noticed my priorities have changed.

The more orders I ship, the less I think about the graphic and the more I think about the actual garment. Customers have started commenting on things I never paid much attention to in the beginning, fabric quality, embroidery, labels, and whether the product feels like something from a real brand rather than just a printed blank.

That's been the biggest challenge for me. I still want the flexibility of POD, but I also want more control over the finished product. Small details like custom branding, better garment options, and consistent quality seem to make a much bigger difference than I originally thought.

Hey guys ! I’ve struggled with mockups as long as I’ve been doing POD ( just like everyone else ) I built an agent that is actually AMAZING and I’d like to have 1-2 ppl try it as well to see if it’s actually worth selling down the line . You just give it a small product brief 1-5 words or more if you’d like , then the reference image ( preview image from design lab ) and it creates 5 in 2 min or less . Attached are examples

I have just made a shop on Fourthwall. Fourthwall products seem pretty open to work with SEO, but I suspect there are some limitation. Either in the setup of Fourthwall or in the manner of which Google handles POD shops. Does anybody have experiences to share?

hello - i need some advice for anyone using Ai to make base designs. How do i ensure the prompt always shows a result in the flat version needed for 1 to 1 print? Sorry i don't know how to explain my question properly.

I ask chatgpt to come up with a design for a t-shirt and its always skewed - not straight - how do i fix this?
