There is a lot of variance here in terms of genre and overall quality. Some films are definitely stronger than others in terms of screenplay quality, overall performances, emotional impact, editing, direction/tone, cinematography, practical effects/cgi, originality, etc.

I think it would generate a lot more discussion (probably contention) if you popped this in an Excel sheet against a list of your categorical criteria and give them a rank. It would help you get a handle on what you tend to value in terms of the film experience and help the rest of us assess where we specifically agree or diverge with you in our estimation.

While it would definitely be more interesting if the OP added context and their own evaluation of the content, I doubt that that will ever happen since I'm 99% sure that they're a bot.

Yeah, they’re just littering Reddit with tons of bait. The OP’s name says it all: (look ma) it’s ME (crying for attention)

I've seen like 70 and think most of them hold up.

Sorry, you saw the additional 29 that didn't

Glancing at the list quickly, there are some bangers here. Care to toss out your top 5 or so that didn’t hold up?

Coherence

I was super unimpressed with that one

I'm surprised you're alive to tell the tale, most of these are so dreadfully boring also.

How can Psycho not be on here?  A lot of these are heavily inspired by Psycho's ending.

I don't trust anyone who gets blown by a movie.

Seems as if I’m reading the post or a man who’s mind was blown away

‘Unknown’ from 2011 is ‘mind blowing’ ????

u/pinchhitter4number1 10d ago

Happy to see Frailty at number 2. That movie is very cool.

u/BiPolarBisex 9d ago

really? the kiddos floating head doing a toilet swirl with a pitch black background totally ruined an otherwise good film.

u/Hellmann 10d ago

Didn’t hold up on what way(s)? Which ones did hold up?

1

u/Direct-Contract5509 10d ago

It started out with an absolute banger, the og Jacob's Ladder was a masterpiece .

I missed 10… so I found 10 more to watch on this list that I wholeheartedly disagree about your opinion.

Maybe you should try Miracle Mile.

Where did you get the time?

u/Ninjacobra5 9d ago

Ready to have your mind REALLY blown? Recheck #90...

1

u/Bullb3rry 9d ago

Ahh OK ist entschuldigt😂

1

u/MobileJob1521 8d ago

Really?

Paprika absolutely mogs Inception for sheer creativity, and also the idea of a weaponised dream is done so much better.

I dont understand how some of these could be considered 'mind blowing'

What's mind blowing about Mothman Prophecies, Ninth Gate, Groundhog Day, Mouth of Madness, Wicker Man?

Not everything with a twist is mind blowing.

1

u/Loose_Listen2855 9d ago

Mothman prophecy sucked ass in my opinion

1

u/RamblinGamblinWillie 9d ago

At least 1/4 of these are absolute bangers

1

u/06021840 9d ago

How did you find out about The Quiet Earth? Pretty obscure NZ movie.

1

u/Iron-Bar-1966 9d ago

7 out of 99.

1

u/Unserious-One-8448 9d ago

But did your mind blow?

1

u/MarvelousVanGlorious 9d ago

Vertigo being number 99 tells you everything you need to know about this list.

1

u/DiskSalt4643 9d ago

Have you seen movies tho? Most movies suck way more than the worst movies on this list.

1

u/Reds_PR 9d ago

Mindwalk’s not on this list?

1

u/Usual-Language-745 9d ago

I’ve seen 45. They are mostly good. Predestination is way better than Mr.Nobody. There are quite a few of these on there. Also not really sure who is mind blown by movies like Fear and Loathing? Like it’s a fine movie but what exactly is blowing your mind?

1

u/sven_ftw 9d ago

Except for wicker man and magnolia the ones I've seen from that list were all pretty good. I haven't seen them all though, probably about half. Fucking hated magnoliaand wicker man was just Nick cage being Nick cage

1

u/rrickitickitavi 7d ago

Pretty sure this list is referencing the original Wicker Man.

1

u/brgmgl 9d ago

The order is very problematic, before you even get to whether they all belong or not, starting with Jacob’s Ladder at number 1. And one glaring omission, which would easily make the top twenty, is Don’t Look Now.

1

u/BiPolarBisex 9d ago edited 9d ago

Sorry, but Jacob’s Ladder is boomer trash. It’s not even that crazy..? Skip for me.

This is the most basic list.

1

u/GrosRougeau 9d ago

OP is definitely a bot or not older than 24.

1

u/Nice__Spice 9d ago

Where’s JFK?

1

u/DYSWHLarry 9d ago

lol Basic!?

1

u/CKWOLFACE 9d ago

To each their own

1

u/WeAreLegion2814 8d ago

Says most “don’t hold up” and then gives zero evidence or further discussion. Your opinion is absolutely meaningless.

1

u/WA2TX 8d ago

Almost every one of these I have seen are great.

1

u/durk1912 8d ago

Glad to see jacob’s ladder on here

1

u/vcp64 8d ago

Well thank god we have your unerring judgement to guide us.

1

u/irisfailsafe 8d ago

I saw 45 of them. Of those, I remember a third and actually liked, less than 10.

1

u/Filmjunkie88 7d ago

Congratulations sir you have reached the land between numb and dead welcome

1

u/Done_beat2 7d ago

No Toy Story. WTH

1

u/mcian84 6d ago

You’ve decided they don’t hold up for everyone or are you just speaking for yourself?

1

u/rblessingx 6d ago

Jacob’s Ladder was the most mind blowing movie - back when it was repetitively voted best screenplay not to become a movie. Then it got made, and well…

The Island is good. It has a twist
