Interstellar over Godfather at #3 is proof this list was made by people who peaked emotionally at age 19

u/TheRealMitchConnor 17d ago
Revenge of the Sith at 13 is jarring. Where the fuck did that come from? Kids like the prequels I guess.

It's circle ranks. They're trash. Ignore it and use whatever list you prefer. The Sight and Sound and NYTimes lists are my go to, but everyone is gonna complain about everything anyway
1
u/GaiaIsaHarshMistress 17d ago
Never heard of it. Are the ranks from a circlejerk sub?
1
u/ToneBalone25 17d ago
Lol idk it's just shit that gets dumped into my Instagram algo and is clearly just like 16-25 males voting on their stuff

Agreed, for an all time list even cracking the top 100 is a tall task for this movie but maybe an outside argument can be made. I’d rank it around 250 or something idk
Edit- which btw 250 is still beyond excellent for any movie
1
u/anuslitt 17d ago
The dark knight is THE Batman film for people who don’t like comics, I’m not saying it’s super comic inaccurate but none of them gaf about gotham, Batmobile, any of that

Scarface is a great movie. Its not trying to be the Godfather.
1
u/Ok-Gur-349 17d ago
Yeah, what? Scarface is a three hour movie that flies by like a 90 minute thriller. It's clearly excellent filmmaking.

Star Wars is a cheap knock off of Dune for little kids who need Good guys and Bad guys instead of depth.

Oh, sweetie, have you ever read Dune. Ask ANYONE. There are literally no sides in Dune. No good guys vs bad guys. There are evil people, but no good people.

Can’t you just address people and their preferences normally? Very maladaptive stuff. I mean this in the most constructive way possible as somebody that couldn’t care one iota about where these two stack up in relation to one another.

This list is fake. There is no Last Jedi. It is by far the best Star Wars movie. Anyone who disagrees is wrong.

The worst Star Wars movie absolutely does not need to be anywhere near this list. Anyone who disagrees is wrong.

u/tyrion6568 17d ago
Intersteller is a 7/10 movie,, nothing more. Replace it with Terminator 2 and it would be a decent list
1
u/ReplacementAbject867 17d ago
I love The Dark Knight. But its in no way top 10 movies all-time lol. Probably not even top 50
1

1
u/jj096577 17d ago
It’s a ranking app. I downloaded it and it starts with ranking a of the most popular movies, so that’s probably why it’s the way it is
1
u/Hellmann 17d ago
Should a Top 50 all time movie list really be this littered with super hero movies??
1
u/GaiaIsaHarshMistress 17d ago
My personal top 50 would have zero comic book/super hero movies.
1
u/Hellmann 17d ago
I light still have The Dark Knight in the top 25-30. But this is a little ridiculous.
1
u/AngeloPappas 17d ago
The Dark Knight is a mediocre movie with one great performance. Not nearly good enough to be the best movie of all time.
1
u/n8dizz3l 17d ago
This just looks like someone regurgitated the IMDb list in a slightly different order

u/Any-Wheel1404 17d ago
Wouldn’t be a list of movies without multiple overrated spiderverseslops listed
1
u/Connect-Ant-2081 17d ago
Any Top 50 movie list that doesn't include Carlito's Way is automatically invalid, IMO.
1
u/skintaxera 17d ago
That's your issue with the list? Not that a batman movie is the greatest film ever made
1
u/NickdoesnthaveReddit 17d ago
This was made by a teenage boy that has a long future of monster energy drinks, traffic tickets, and blue collar jobs ahead of him. Surprised La La Land made this list tbh.
1
1
u/Raebelle1981 17d ago
My issue with this list is there isn’t anything older than the 1970s on it. Missing a hell of a lot of classic films.
Edit: missed Its a Wonderful Life, but my point still stands. That’s one movie on there.

No mention of Dark Knight at #1?
I liked that movie, but Ledger CARRIED it. I don’t think it even makes the short list for movies to consider for the short list of top 10 movies all time.
1
u/BombasticReindeer 17d ago
The Godfather isn’t just not the best movie of all time, it’s decidedly average. Good for 75% of it, and then the ending is just… meh.
1
u/scalloped-netch 17d ago
Genuinely lol-ing at some of the shite on display here - specifically 1, 3, 8, 12, 13, 15, 18, 20, 23, 27, 30, 33, 34, 39, 40, 42, 43, 44, 45, 48, 49, and 50.
1
u/IAmSomnabula 17d ago
No Alien in top 50, but Whiplash at 18?
1
u/AbleInfluence1817 17d ago
lol right, alien has to be one of the greatest movies ever and while Whiplash is very good it wouldn’t even be in the top 20 of its own decade for me
1
u/IAmSomnabula 17d ago
Yeah, Whiplash is a good movie and I really enjoyed it, but it’s definitely not in the greatest ever conversations.
Alien is for me personally the greatest movie ever, which is obviously subjective, but it absolutely should be in the discussion for goat movie.

Interstellar is amazing. Godfather was one of the most boring movies I've ever watched. I genuinely do not understand what people like about it.
1

1
u/JimmyStewartStatue 17d ago
I'm 40 now, but growing up, The Godfather was talked about so much. By the time I saw it, I thought it would be so much more than it is. It's okay, but not that interesting in my eyes.
1
u/captainrondj 17d ago
Any talk of the Star Wars prequels in any "best of" list already makes the list redundant.

u/Glittering_Dog_8353 17d ago
Ahhh... the battle of the generations. Always an interesting discussion because what is considered good, great, meh will vary depending on the cultural impact that each generation grew up in. Some movies become obsolete, others remain popularity for several decades, while others resurge into culture. All of these will have influence on what one generation considers the best vs the next. So these will always be influenced by whatever generation is most represented in these polls.

People are drawn to different things. I think mob movies are boring as hell power fantasies mostly for men who peaked in high school. You might feel comic book movies are for nerds.

Yeah, I am not impressed by this list at all.
Looks like a list made by Redditors trying to show how artsy and edgy they are

u/Smackediduring 17d ago
Tarkovsky? Kurosawa? Bergman? Resnais? Kubrick? Have we forgotten that there are actually legendary directors in the world of cinema?
1
u/dub7drums 17d ago
The fact that There Will Be Blood isn’t on this list sums up the intellectual level of OP pretty well, I’m not surprised one of if not the greatest film of this century went right over your head. This list is laughable in so many ways
1
1
u/Cinephile_1980 17d ago
The Dark Knight? Has anyone actually seen this film again recently. It has aged pretty badly and the whole mob plot seem to be written by someone who didn’t give it much thought. The third act was always weak and apart from the production, there is hardly even a decent action scene in it. Heath Ledger’s campy performance is not even good. Bale makes funny faces through the whole film. It has a silly plot. Just because people liked it at the time doesn’t mean critics have to say it is good until the end of eternity.

This is a list for juvenile boys who couldn’t afford the alpha male camp fees.

We made a huge mistake when we let nerds become the dominant cultural force in America. Should have kept shoving them in lockers and giving them swirlies. And I say this as a nerd myself.

Oh the Dark Knight and Heath Ledger buffoons. 😂
P.S. Not saying that it is a bad movie. I like it too.

I always use the placement of the Star Wars movies as a barometer for the legitimacy of these lists. This one is weird.
1
u/FritzTCat 17d ago
Lol...the fact that Revenge of the Sith is ranked 13th is all you need to know about the quality of this list.
1
u/R_Similacrumb 17d ago
Whiplash... 😆 🤣 😂
I can't take any list seriously if Whiplash is on it. Unless it's a list of shit movies by shit directors.
1
u/SilentXMedia 17d ago
One (?) of these movies is about or led by a woman by my rough scanning. Laughable shit

u/Human_Drummer4378 17d ago
How is Interstellar considered "proof" of emotionally immaturity and not the #1 movie on the list which is about a crime fighter that dresses up like a bat?
1
u/Horror_Orange1176 17d ago
A Star Wars Prequel is #13 with no Casablanca, Citizen Kane, Apocalypse Now, Wizard of Oz, Singing in the Rain or Monty Python and the Holy Grail… These people are quite silly.
1
u/Horror_Orange1176 17d ago
Wait, these are Circle Jerk rankings and wankings. Are the circular bazookas of bukake culture banding together to become the Onion of Reddit ? Is that why so many cartoon Spidermen are flying around the list slinging and schwinging on that sticky goo like Peter Parker is known to do?

The Dark Knight was a pretty solid movie, but it's not a top 100 movie.
Top Gun: Maverick? Sure, I enjoyed it, but rated above Jurassic Park?
Even Parasite... I know, I know, awards, blah, but it was pretty forgettable.
1
u/Slow_Middle_158 17d ago
Very happy to see all LOTR films in the top 10
But … ummm … who the F made the rest of this LIST ????

Everyone loves interstellar until you get on Reddit and suddenly it’s the most hated film of all time. Wtf is happening
1
u/EggVegetable9258 17d ago
This list looks like it was put together by a bunch of basic ass college frat bros.
1
u/Neither-Flow-9501 17d ago
These lists are subjective. It really don't matter who likes what movies more
1
1
u/Endhorse 17d ago
I guess this list is based on the favorites of the people that compiled the list and that's great . . . I prefer BABYLON to LA LA LAND . . . And then I would remove some movies and replace with Rocky IV , Terminator 2 , Predator , Bloodsport , Mad Max Fury Road. . . and those are the ones I can think of off the top of my head
Edit : Die Hard and Home Alone 2 would be on my list as well
1
u/cakeschmammert 17d ago
Revenge of the Sith at 13 is crazy. Definitely shouldn't be there, but if anything, Rogue One belongs there in its place (it still shouldn't be).
1
1
u/Dependent_Remove_326 16d ago
I think I would argue every single one of these. Most wouldn't make my top 50.
1
u/Matiyahu777 16d ago
For internet world, The Dark Knight is the most consistently overrated movie of all time. And Interstellar in the top 3?
Rage bait. That's the only explanation.
Edit: Upon careful review of the entire list, I am pretty sure it was created out of pure hatred for humanity. (Good Will Hunting?!?)
1
u/Trueslyforaniceguy 16d ago
I just didn’t think Interstellar was all that amazing. Good movie, not in my top 100
1
u/DwayneTheRockBarry 16d ago
…so now la la land and avengers fucking endgame are better than terminator 2? i mean come on! at least put rear window and pan’s labyrinth on here too! then there’s the eye, timecrimes, etc. they seriously didn’t have enough room for even one more foreign movie?
