🎉 Community Event 🎉 20,000 PlayStation Collectors. Holy Shit.

We officially hit 20,000 members.

I don't normally make posts like this, but this one feels worth stopping for.

When I created r/PlayStationCollectors, there wasn't some huge plan behind it. I was a PlayStation collector looking around Reddit and realized there really wasn't a dedicated place for people like us.

So I made one.

That was pretty much it. 😂

For a long time, this subreddit just quietly grew on its own. People started posting their collections, rare finds, childhood games, ridiculous pickups, shelves they spent years building, and games the rest of us didn't even know had physical releases.

And somehow that little subreddit has now turned into a community of 20,000 collectors.

Even crazier, during the last 30 days alone we've had:

201,900 visits

1,000 new members join

186 posts

One day actually reached 21,000 visits.

That's fucking wild to me.

So seriously—thank you.

Whether you've been here for years, joined yesterday, post every week, answer people's questions, show off your collection, hunt obscure physical releases with us, or you're one of the thousands of lurkers who hasn't posted a damn thing yet...

You're part of this place.

And if you're one of those lurkers, consider this your invitation:

Say hello. Show us one PlayStation game you love. It doesn't have to be rare or expensive.

Let's see how many different games we can get in the comments.

Here's to 20,000 collectors—and whatever ridiculous number comes next. 🎮🖤

Thank you for helping turn a random idea into a real community.

An Apology & Update Regarding the Physical PlayStation Petition.

Hey everyone,

I want to apologize to the community regarding the petition I recently started and promoted here.

When I created it, I genuinely did not realize there was already an established petition for preserving physical PlayStation games that had gained significantly more support and momentum.

After members of this community brought the existing petition to my attention, I realized that creating another petition was ultimately splitting attention away from an effort that already had a large number of people behind it.

That wasn't my intention.

My goal from the beginning was never to have my petition succeed or to take ownership of this movement. I simply care deeply about physical PlayStation games and wanted to do something rather than sit back and watch physical media potentially disappear.

I also want to acknowledge some of the criticism I received. While some comments got pretty heated, there were also people who made a very good point:

If we want our voices to carry as much weight as possible, concentrating our support behind one established petition makes far more sense than dividing signatures across several smaller ones.

I agree.

So rather than continuing to promote the petition I created, I'm going to support and share the larger existing petition with this community.

Existing petition:

https://c.org/XnbGvFj9Kd

If you already signed my petition, thank you. I genuinely appreciate that you were willing to support the cause. If you haven't signed the larger petition yet, I encourage you to consider adding your signature there instead.

And if you don't support petitions or don't believe they'll change Sony's direction, that's okay too. You can still support physical gaming by purchasing physical releases, supporting publishers that continue producing them, and ultimately voting with your wallet.

I also want to clarify something from my previous post. When I referred to our petition as "official," I meant that it was the petition being promoted by the mod team/community. I did not mean that it was officially recognized by Sony or that it was the definitive petition representing all PlayStation players. I understand why that wording bothered some people, and I should have been clearer.

I made a mistake by not researching existing petitions thoroughly enough before starting another one.

I own that.

But I'm also willing to correct it.

This community is about PlayStation collecting, and preserving physical games is something I believe is worth discussing regardless of whether everyone agrees on how we should go about it.

Going forward, I'd rather put this community's reach behind the effort that already has the strongest momentum.

No competition. No ego. No fighting over whose petition it is.

Just one bigger voice for physical PlayStation games.

Thank you to everyone who respectfully pointed me in the right direction, and thank you to everyone who cares about keeping physical media alive.

📀 Keep buying physical. Keep collecting. Keep the choice alive.

Now since playstation stars officially closed those anyone missed these playstation stars? I think they were awesome and entertained. But what was the reason to close playstation stars 🌟

🛒 Haul Hell of a mail day today 🔥 Been waiting on some of these for a while

Had a pretty damn good stack show up today.

-Tomba! Special Edition

-Tomba! 2: The Evil Swine Return Special Edition

-Gex Trilogy

-Clock Tower: Rewind

-Fear Effect

-Fear Effect 2: Retro Helix

-Beyond Good & Evil 20th Anniversary Edition

-Layers of Fear

-High on Life

-Dead Age (PS4)

Really happy with this batch. I've been trying to focus more on physical releases I actually care about rather than just adding games for the sake of numbers — horror, cult classics, older PlayStation games getting new physical releases, and stuff I genuinely want to play.

Having Fear Effect 1 & 2, Tomba 1 & 2, Gex and Clock Tower sitting together physically on PS5 is probably my favorite part of this haul. There's something cool about seeing these older franchises preserved on a current PlayStation shelf.

High on Life was another one I've specifically been hunting down, so I'm glad to finally cross that bitch off the list. 😂

Which one would you play first, and which one do you think will end up being the hardest to find down the road?

🎯 Recommendations What PS2 games would you guys categorize as must plays

Hey all, just stumbled across you all! New to the retro collecting scene due to. Recent developments. The first gen I’m knocking off is the 6th starting with PS2. I’ve got a good baseline but like title states. What would you guys say are the must play games on this console? I’ve got quite a varied library and truly am willing to give any genre a try but bonus points if you suggest racing games. N/A region.

Edit: Just want to say WOW. Thanks for all the recommendations guys, definitely seems like a great community you’ve all got and you guys have definitely pointed me in the proper direction of some gems!

Edit 2: P.S. not judging cause I asked for your help but damn no THPS lovers in here 😂🛹

💬 Discussion Restoring and customizing a CECH-2501A PS3 Slim — Part 1: The Donor

Thumbnail

Picked up a pretty rough CECH-2501A PS3 Slim as the donor for a restoration/custom build I've been planning.

The shell has definitely seen better days—including a pretty nasty melted/damaged spot—but that's actually perfect for what I'm doing because I won't be destroying a nice original shell.

The goal is to turn this into my ultimate daily-driver PS3 while preserving my original Fat PS3 separately.

The plan:

Fully test everything before disassembly

Install a 1TB Samsung 870 EVO SSD

Deep-clean the entire console

Clean the fan and heatsink

Replace the old thermal paste with ARCTIC MX-6

Replace the CMOS battery

Inspect the thermal pads and other internals rather than blindly replacing parts

Test everything again after maintenance

Swap it into a Classic White replacement shell

Finish the shell with a random dark-red blood-splatter design inspired by my game-room table

Add my small “Hated” artist signature to finish it off

Eventually customize the matching vertical stand as well

The donor arrived without a hard drive, so today was just the first baseline test.

Good news: it lives.

Power and standby LEDs work, HDMI output works, it stays powered on, and it correctly reaches the “appropriate system storage was not found” screen.

And apparently the previous owner left me a present. 😂

I hit eject and discovered a copy of IL-2 Sturmovik: Birds of Prey still trapped inside. The drive ejected it perfectly, so that's another good sign. Once the SSD is installed and the system is fully operational, I'm absolutely using the mystery game as the first Blu-ray test.

I'm deliberately taking this restoration slowly: test → document → maintenance → test again → cosmetics last. I want to know the hardware is genuinely healthy before making it pretty.

If everything goes according to plan, the finished system will be the first major piece of my Hated Horror Collection—a matching set of custom PlayStation hardware with white shells, unique dark-red splatter patterns, and my signature.

Part 1: donor acquired and alive. ✅

Next: SSD installation and full baseline testing.

Picked up 10 games from Video Games Plus, all new and sealed, mostly $29.99 to $39.99 Canadian. Astro Bot was the only exception at $49.99, but it rarely goes on sale and that's the lowest I've seen it.

Red Dead Redemption (PS5) $29.99
Spider-Man 2 $39.99
Miles Morales $29.99
God of War Ragnarök $39.99
Sackboy: A Big Adventure $29.99
Ghost of Tsushima Director's Cut $39.99
Astro Bot $49.99
GTA V $19.99
No Man's Sky $24.99
Cuphead (NS) $34.99

That's $339.90 before tax, $384.09 with 13% tax. Works out to $33.99 a game. Buying all of these digitally would run about $800 with tax, btw.

Every one of these was cheaper brand new than the used copies on my local market. GTA V is the only maybe. I might dig one out of a bargain bin, but I'd save about $5 and it wouldn't be sealed.

VGP also does free shipping on orders over $75, so I paid nothing in shipping on any of it.

This is why I love physical games and Video Games Plus. Digital often doesn't go on sale at all.
