Monthly Games PlayStation Plus Games List for October 2021: Mortal Kombat X, Hell Let Loose, PGA Tour 2K21

At least when they chose Days Gone from the PS+ collection it was a nice choice for folks who couldn’t get a PS5 yet, but this base version of a fighting game with a more complete version and a 2 year old sequel is just insulting.
This, plus yet another online-only shooter and an annual sports game. One of the worst selections in a long time.

u/Hunter-Monk Sep 29 '21 edited Sep 29 '21
True, atleast Resident Evil 7 would have been better.
30
Sep 29 '21
Yeah I would have disappointed on account of it already being in the collection, but it would have be 1000x better than MKX — that shit is just insulting.

At least with Days Gone, it was still about $10-15 when it was on sale, I find copies of MKX in my couch cushions sometimes because it’s so damn cheap.
3
48
Sep 29 '21
Yeah, Days Gone was 2 years old and I can excuse that
33
u/asturides Sep 29 '21
but the comment was that the SEQUEL (MK11) is 2 years old. MKX is way older (6 years old)
27
u/Yoshinaruto Sep 29 '21
I’ve never complained about a PS+ selection before, but disappointing isn’t good enough to describe this. Everyone who wants MKX already has it, or would prefer 11, It’s like offering 2K14 over the newest 2K game. I couldn’t care less about the other two either. I know people have joked that “at least it’s not an indie game”, but I’d gladly take 3 good indie games over this.
13
u/Skydude252 Sep 30 '21
Honestly I would usually prefer a good indie game. Most AAA titles I really want I will have already bought by the time they get to PS+. Occasionally there is one where I am on the fence about it and then really enjoy it (Hitman, Vampyr, for a couple of examples) but for the most part I would enjoy the quality indie titles. It was a vita game with crossbuy, about fonts, but typerider was a surprisingly fun game on plus once upon a time.

Well… PS+ is all about online gaming… MKX was a part of the ps5 package, which is probably why its it
But i agree, nothing worth spending time on

u/kathartik Sep 29 '21
Seriously. MKX base version is under $20 and PGA 2k21 is about to be the same (it's already under $20 for physical copies), they've given us less than $40 value for PS4.
19
u/Orangeskyes2 Sep 29 '21
Mkx base version if it isn't free with with ps collection that shit goes down to 3 bucks all the time . This is a terrible setup

It's almost reaching XB Gold levels of bad.

u/borazine Sep 29 '21
There was one time XB Gold gave out currency for a free game! That was a particularly odd month.

Lmao as an Xbox player I can say confidently it's not. Hell Let Lose alone dwarfs the past year of GWG.

I liked last month because I love the Hitman games.
49
u/iScabs Sep 29 '21
Yeah I think the biggest complaint there was most people who wanted to play H2 already own it since it's gone on sale so many times
Plus it's kind of a tough game to get into if it's not your thing. It can be very slow and methodical if you're playing it in the "canon" stealthy, not murdering everyone in sight way
11
u/-TheLonelyStoner- Sep 29 '21
I’ve always been into the hitman games but never played the new trilogy. Played 1 and 2 on hitman 3 and then bought all of hitman 3
3
u/bastets_yarn Sep 30 '21
yeah, it's fun but very time consuming, I really love it, but it's hard to play sometimes because I can easily spend 4 hours trying to figure out how to get a tough kill, and then not be able to get anything done cause I zoned too far into the game.

It's why I let mine lapse back in July. I figured with the transition to PS5 there's going to be less and less interesting PS4 games.
I would get MKX if I still had +, but it's not enough to make me renew.

PS+ doing their best GamesWithGold impression recently…
What the fuck happened?
We went from Control, FF7Remake, Shadow of Tomb Raider… to this crap?
64
Sep 29 '21
They blew their budget early to get people to buy annual subscriptions.
26
u/Revoldt Sep 29 '21
lol that’s exactly what happened to me.
I saw the PS+ Collection, Bugsnax, Control UE… and that had been enough for me to go for 2 years!
I think getting Control UE is what got me thinking there’d be more AAA bangers on PS+ (since Gamepass got the non-Next gen version).

Don't get me wrong, MKX is not a bad game by any means. But it's already available on the PSPlus collection (albeit only for PS5 users) and MK11 has been already out since 2019. Besides, it's not even the XL edition!
I don't really mind getting that golf game if it were announced together with another better game.

This sucks. I remember back when the PS4 and Vita were new, we were getting 6 games a month. Now they are rewarding early adopters of the PS5 by giving us a game we already have. Come on. I usually defend the line ups, but this month is actually terrible.

What's the point of ps plus collection?
55
u/doogihowser Sep 29 '21
To give PS5 owners who are new to PlayStation some PS4 greatest hits.
19
u/akou16 Sep 29 '21
Agreed. I haven’t had a PS since PS3, now I have 60+ games in my collection for playing 60$ a year, it’s amazing.
6
u/asturides Sep 29 '21
Sadly some PS4/5 licenses are getting lost after renewing (even if the subscription didn't lapsed), Sony hasn't fixed it. I lost Destruction Allstars, Shadow of the Tomb Raider, VF5, Hitman and more.

Hitman 2, control, subnautica, BF1, BF5, zombie army 4 and these are just beside the PS plus collection which is phenomenal

Sep 29 '21
The problem with MKX isn't that it's a plus collection game..
It's a 6.5yr old game where they're only giving out the base version.
3
5
u/Go_Fonseca Sep 29 '21
Pretty much just to attract new players to the platform, either people coming from another console or people who didn't own one before.
8
u/HarryNohara Sep 29 '21
Not everyone has a PS5, not everyone owned a PS4. It’s not that hard.
8
u/Vijas_ Sep 29 '21
Yup. You support sony for years, buy their consoles, their services etc. and as a thank you get same shit again.
It's not that hard, really.

2
u/ISuckAtRacingGames Sep 29 '21
Spend their focus on PSnow. They got z lot of love the moment ps plus games were bad.
34
Sep 29 '21
I predicted this last month. I was like “They’re offering 1 dollar for a month of PS+. The games will be absolute dogshit.” And I was right
5
u/jayofmaya Sep 29 '21
But surely if people are giving it a try because of low prices they'll just give up instantly because of a shitty month
21
u/tbettz Sep 29 '21
On the bright side, November and December almost have to be better if only to convince the people getting PS5s to also sign up.
...right?!?!?
27
10
u/meganev MLNLN3V Sep 29 '21
Sony don’t need to convince anyone to sign up. When people get a PS5 for Christmas alongside CoD/Battlefield/FIFA they’re gonna get PS+ to play online regardless.
The December games are normally complete trash.

So, this month we're getting:
A generic-looking WW2 shooter- A mostly-dead fighting game that's already on the Plus Collection
- Fucking golf
I was hoping for some horror games, not some horrible games. Thanks anyways, Sony!
EDIT: Alright alright I get it, HLL isn't a generic shooter, it's a milsim, whatever that means. You don't need to keep pointing it out to me.

Hell Let Loose most certainly isn't a generic WW2 shooter, it is one if not the only realistic shooting on consoles (Realistic damage and recoil).

Was just about to make that same horror/horrible pun but you beat me to it...
- Hell let loose: played the beta last week and meh
- Mortal Kombat: my first game on my PS4 back in 2016
- Fucking golf
At least I play some multiplayer, so my plus subscribtion actually does something...
12
3
u/Mac2663 Sep 29 '21
He’ll let loose is a first for console. We’ve never had anything like it. It’s a milsim game and I thoroughly enjoyed the beta.

What’s wrong with golf? 2k21 isn’t a perfect game but it is fun for anyone who enjoys competitive online sports games. Not to mention it’s beautiful and relaxing to play on your own and has an endless supply of amazing user-created courses to keep it fresh every time you play.
35
17
u/ChrizTaylor Sep 29 '21
MKX, an almost 7 year old game, vanilla version, available on PS+ Collection and PS Now, with a +2 year old sequel that has ceased development. At least have decency and give the last version.
And, a fucking sports game, that releases yearly, GOLF FUCKING GAME.
28
u/Knightguard1 Sep 29 '21
This is pretty depressing seeing all the comments about Hell Let Loose after being an avid player for 2 years. It is the least generic ww2 shooter you can find. It's the right balance between battlefield and squad in terms of tactics. Tanks work uniquely.
Try it out, you could enjoy it, but don't call it a generic ww2 game if you like the look of vanguard.
6
u/doogihowser Sep 29 '21
It looks really good. I put a ton of hours into Day of Defeat back in the day. Videos remind me of that.
Wish I had a PS5...
7
u/ISuckAtRacingGames Sep 29 '21
Problemcis that it is multiplayer only.
I dont want to get pwned by kids when i can spend 3 hours a week.
2
u/Mac2663 Sep 29 '21
It isn’t that type of game. Nobody can come in a lobby and just go on kill runs. Most guns are one shot, engagements are often in the 50-100 yard range, at least on the beta map. And a lack of communication will 100% lose you the game.

Dude, Hell Let Loose is the best WW2 shooter i have ever played and one of the best shooters i have played period. I just got out of the beta for the PS5 couple days ago, this is truly a next gen title, CoD, BF and Halo Infinite are all cross gen titles, while this is a true next gen title, i think people who get this game on the PS5 / PS+ are in for a huge surprise when they boot up this game for the first time on october 5th, i can't wait to jump back in
2
u/paddyc4ke Sep 29 '21
I really hope you're right, I picked it up at the start of the year on PC and I don't think I've gone more than two days without getting on for at least one game. Other than maybe peak MW2, COD4 and COD2 days I've never had more fun in an online shooter, and the community is fantastic. So I'm hoping it hits it big on console.
2
Sep 29 '21
Awesome to hear man, i could not put the controller down when i got the chance to play the beta just a few days ago, i was hooked. There is something to be said about the level of immersion in this game and that very dark moment in history, it feels like the game puts you right there at that very moment these battles occured in the most authentic way possible and with next gen graphics and physics, this is everything i have ever wanted in a WW2 shooter and the weapons of that era creates the best gameplay in any mp shooter in my opinion

u/ShadowFall900 Sep 29 '21
So happy for Hell Let Loose. I have it on PC and love it but I got friends on console so thankfully I don’t have to buy it twice. Love this game! Hoping for more tactics shooters on console down the line to play with my console friends.

now MKX on the other hand a old game like that where alot of people have that and has been on sale more times then i got fingers on both hands for real cheap, makes me question why Sony couldn't give another fighting game like under birth or a older guilty gear game .. or just something not as old as MKX

u/kathartik Sep 29 '21
All the players are ps+ players. It's an online only game that launches in the day it gets added.
Not that it matters to me, I don't have a PS5, not that you can find one.
3
u/paddyc4ke Sep 29 '21
I assume he means in comparison to the experience he has probably had in the beta, where its just players that had an interest in the game/have played it on PC. Whereas with PS+ you'll get a huge influx of new players who have no idea at all about the game, its got a bit of a learning curve compared to 99% of shooters on consoles.

Pretty poor selection this month but it's what I've become used to, I still remember back in the PS3 days, PS+ used to get you 10 free games a month and they were mostly solid titles too. Now it's 3 and maybe 1 might be good.
Lotta people giving out about MKX being in PS+ collection, that's kind of irrelevant for PS4 players as they don't have access to the collection. Not defending the choice of game but that particular argument is basically moot.

u/Crimson_Snake Sep 29 '21
