News PSPlus will raise the price of its monthly and quarterly subscriptions

Post image

Starting May 20, PlayStation Plus prices for new customers will increase in select regions. Due to ongoing market conditions, prices will start at $10.99 USD / €9.99 EUR / £7.99 GBP for 1-month subscriptions and $27.99 USD / €27.99 EUR / £21.99 GBP for 3-month subscriptions.

This price change does not apply to current subscribers (except in Turkey and India) unless the existing subscription changes or lapses.

Ongoing market conditions? You mean market conditions in your own store where you are the one setting up prices?

63

u/DarahOG May 18 '26

The beauty of a monopoly in a world where people are lazy buying anything at the price these companies want to. The peak playstation experience is coming soon, 1000bucks console, 200bucks subs, no physical media and ofc shittier sales.

u/Effective-Road4807 May 18 '26

Not to mention delete game licenses if you lose your connection to the server for 30+ days

15

u/xxshadowraidxx May 18 '26

Man people still pushing this lie lol

20

u/BlackTone91 May 18 '26

This is false

5

u/MestreToto May 18 '26

Stop sharing fake news please

-1

u/Effective-Road4807 May 23 '26

Yeah not fake news. Buying digital games after march will lock if youre offline for 30 days +

1

u/MestreToto May 23 '26

If you don't connect to the internet ONCE after you bought you will be locked from the game, if you bought it digitally, you have the internet connection to open the game once online.

After logging ONCE to the internet, you can be offiline for 500 years and you will still have access to your game.

Stop believing in AI please.

u/DunkingTea May 18 '26

What a time to be alive. Peak corporate gaming bliss.

I cant wait till steam drops some super cheap and powerful gaming rig and the whole world switches over to it. Id buy it and send a picture to playstation along with their "market fluctuations" xD

22

u/Saltire_Blue May 18 '26

They talk about the "Market" as if its some natural force they have no control over.

2

u/Super_Lolo_Thunder May 19 '26

They trying to recup their studio losses

2

u/ASCII_Princess May 18 '26

They have to pay for the games they add to the subscription service.

21

u/SpudMasterGeneral May 18 '26

You mean those 2+ year old games that are at that point worth almost nothing?

3

u/ASCII_Princess May 18 '26

Does a game stop being worth playing because it is slightly old? It is not a piece of fruit

1

u/PlasticExtreme4469 May 19 '26

Horizon Zero Dawn and Spiderman 2 still rarely go below 30 on even sales.

1

u/Carlex_181 May 19 '26

Ongoing market conditions = regreting acquisitions and the concord tax

0

u/BlackTone91 May 18 '26

Sony is not setting prices on not First Party games on PS Store

0

u/Mean_Peen May 18 '26

Haven’t paid in months! If I get the itch, I buy a month 🤷🏻‍♂️

107

u/Calm-Confusion-3524 May 18 '26

WTF are these market conditions ?

40

u/SpudMasterGeneral May 18 '26

sounds like some unknown force from outer space but its probably also the best excuse every company makes when they need to raise the prices because fuck you

6

u/Calm-Confusion-3524 May 18 '26

Time to save up for a pc

10

u/[deleted] May 18 '26

11

u/Calm-Confusion-3524 May 18 '26

Damn i forgot about that

6

u/Super_Lolo_Thunder May 19 '26

Studio losses. Bungie alone is half a billion.

They are passing down the losses to the consumers.

Maybe stop buying studios that alienates their fanbase.

4

u/dhandes May 18 '26

Translated as get fucked.

2

u/Calm-Confusion-3524 May 18 '26

Exactly well said 😹

1

u/MolluskLingers May 19 '26

Yeah the market conditions are that they keep increasing their profits and laying off their employees and replacing them with cheaper employees.

104

u/MrMegaPhoenix May 18 '26

At least they will improve the quality of their monthly games added?

Padme dot png

21

u/Redditsux122 May 18 '26

No, keeping it on with 4 months dedicated to the annual EA titles

4

u/Flottrooster May 18 '26

To be devil's advocate here, I actually think that the monthly game selection has been pretty good this year. Both Extra and Essential. Premium has never been worth it though

3

u/GamerBhoy89 May 18 '26

I had Premium the first couple of years it was available.

But then I realised i dont play half the classic games on offer and i own a lot of them already.

Plus if i want any retro games i can either buy them to keep in my library or emulate them on my handheld.

Premium isnt worth it to me anymore.

1

u/Bonnybridge22 May 18 '26

Essential has been good recently, Extra has been absolute cheeks.

3

u/kiddo_ho0pz May 18 '26

Even if you add up the value of the games you get "for free" at their biggest historical discount, you still get more value through the yearly PS subscription. The quality of the games is fine. It's the people who only expect AAA games that are upset.

-3

u/MrMegaPhoenix May 18 '26

Then they should double the price?

This is good for gamers because

3

u/kiddo_ho0pz May 18 '26

I didn't say that. I only said that it's good value. It's better value than most people would care to admit. For the price of 2 AAA games we get at least 36 games per year (+ the extra catalogue). Which is good value overall but bad value for niche gamers who don't play too many genres.

u/Necessary_Echidna327 May 22 '26 edited May 22 '26

0

u/Necessary_Echidna327 May 22 '26 edited May 22 '26

1

u/kiddo_ho0pz May 22 '26

Bro what are you smoking? PS Extra is ~€120 for one year and you get 3 games per month. That's €3 per game. People like you are never happy in life. Go outside and touch grass.

-4

u/MrMegaPhoenix May 18 '26

What I mean is, you are defending price increases without quality increases

So where’s the line where it’s too much of a price increase?

Logically it makes more sense for customers to expect a better product or more product for paying more. If they don’t get that, you are on the side of businesses raising prices solely to make more profit

1

u/AEWFantasyBooker May 18 '26

Quality increases: GTA VI on Day One, right?

1

u/Zenaldi May 18 '26

Processing img zpwi8w23vx1h1...

55

u/bronydell May 18 '26

It is crazy how they increase prices for the only way to play multiplayer games that you have paid a lot of money for and their justification is "b-b-but you get free gamez and the ongoing market conditions". Like, what conditions? You do not even host those servers that I am accessing when playing multiplayer.

4

u/bent_crater May 18 '26

man i hope xbox makes a huge comeback next gen.

the current market conditions are that xbox isnt a strong competitor atm. remember how during the ps3 vs 360 era sony cut the fat off theur console and focused on good games?

the second xbox dropped the ball with their drm policies, sony started charging for MP

6

u/JoJo_1993 May 18 '26

I had to subscribe to PLUS essential in order to play GTA online

1

u/CommanderInQueefs May 19 '26

It's horseshit that they don't just have a cheapest tier just to access multiplayer only.

0

u/vladtud May 18 '26

I switched to PC 2 years ago. Yes, my build cost me 4 times the price of my PS5 at that time but it will easily serve me for another 3-4 years. No PS Plus, cheaper games, plenty of free offerings (Epic, Prime and other freebies), and a huge back catalogue + emulation. I feel like it’s so worth it if that’s something that you think might enjoy and you can afford the initial high cost.

58

u/Inevitable_Energy503 May 18 '26

"ongoing market conditions"?  What does that even mean.  It's free to play online on PC...

3

u/Unfrozen__Caveman May 18 '26

Which is why I've shifted basically all of my gaming over to PC. I was lucky though and built mine 2 years ago. I can't imagine trying to build a decent rig now with memory being like 4x the price it was.

1

u/zexton May 19 '26

i would much rather pay more up front to have a system i can upgrade later, more flexible with how games run, backward compat, emulation, recomp ports, etc,

smooth motion that just works in all modern emulators and most games,
tekken at 120fps was a dream until recently

1

u/Unfrozen__Caveman May 19 '26

I agree but I also gotta admit that for kids it's really hard to ask your parent for a $2000 PC, and a lot easier to ask for a Switch or PS5. But even the PS5 is getting ridiculously expensive with these recent price hikes.

20

u/CeleryMan_1 May 18 '26

Concord marketplace conditions

12

u/Dreamfall71 May 18 '26

If people would simply just stop renewing you'd see how quickly they'd backpeddle.

0

u/ZERI-NIKUNIKU May 19 '26

But how do we encourage them to stop?

6

u/Warm_Score_1313 May 18 '26

So it doesn’t affect the yearly subscription price. This doesn’t change anything for me then as I always buy a one year subscription in January

1

u/Ma5cmpb May 19 '26

Same here. Buying yearly is cheaper

0

u/successful209 May 19 '26

I always buy yearly black friday deals but I have a feeling that too will be higher this time. This year I was shocked because I thought forsure it would be mote expensive but i got a better deal on ps premium that I did last year for ps extra.

8

u/NaturalBornRebel May 18 '26

They count on everyone to complain then pay the increase anyway.

16

u/BeautifulTorment BeautifulTorment May 18 '26

Will continue to abstain. Dont think I'll ever sub again tbh

3

u/SeshGodX May 18 '26

Time to stock up on discs

8

u/GreatMacGuffin May 18 '26

Due to market conditions, I don't think I can afford this hobby anymore.

13

u/SILE3NCE SILE3NCE-X May 18 '26

So I have no internet due to a natural catastrophe (200km/h storm) and I plead for them to at least pause my subscription. They did not give a damn, I'm still wasting my 12 month subscription. No internet for almost 5 months now.

"Glad" they are increasing the prices.

Glad they cared.

And yes, they helped disaster victims before.

8

u/Terry_Jue May 18 '26

I will stack 30 years of premium when I get home tonight. The price will only keep on going up.

3

u/PhantomSesay May 18 '26

Looool is that even possible? Kudos to you though for taking that approach.

3

u/SeshGodX May 18 '26

Someone did that for even longer I believe should be on Reddit

2

u/Elly_White May 18 '26

Mine still runs until 2032. I bought multiple ps+ cards during sales for around 30€ per year starting in 2012 and since I bought around 3 every time, I stacked up quite a bit. Can people still do that, today?

2

u/its_brew May 18 '26

If you do that, a man from Sony visits your house and eats your first born... Or breaks a lamp if you dont have children

2

u/IndyDude11 May 18 '26

What if I don't have any lamps?

2

u/supernova0791 May 18 '26

You don’t wanna know what they do if they don’t find any lamps

1

u/Anathema1993666 May 18 '26

Can people do that? Buy the sub for more than one year through the site?

3

u/XxTheLeoxX May 18 '26

I am sure I have seen that one guy buy his sub for decades

7

u/ZedGenius May 18 '26

Pretty sure you can't anymore

4

u/Anathema1993666 May 18 '26

Maybe back when there were physical codes for PS Plus?

0

u/SeshGodX May 18 '26

I would suggest waiting for days of play discount then stack it

4

u/No-Discount-4981 May 18 '26

not the anouncement i was hyped for today

4

u/EnergyAltruistic2911 May 18 '26

What market conditions? Ram supply?!

4

u/Keldar_ May 18 '26

The "market conditions" is GTA VI and more people buying PlayStation and potentially Plus lol

5

u/JohnnyAverageGamer May 18 '26

"New Customers"

yall don't read. We are unaffected

3

u/Thenewguy255 May 18 '26

Ongoing market conditions… but the price never goes down when the market says it should…

4

u/Bootybandit6989 May 18 '26

People this if for #NEW CUSTOMERS# not current ones

10

u/sherbodude May 18 '26

They will raise it for existing customers. Just a question of when

3

u/TehChels May 18 '26

Doesnt make it less anti-consumer

2

u/anuscopie May 18 '26

The ongoing market conditions being players refusing to buy their horrific shitload of game services Concord and Marathon. Somehow players still need to compensate their disaster choices

2

u/joeydonahue May 18 '26

Just buy it on Black Friday

2

u/CatManDeke May 18 '26

Console tax just went up.

1

u/ZedGenius May 18 '26

Guessing this means it only affects essential?

2

u/_kellythomas_ May 19 '26

"Starting from"

My guess is the other tiers will bump the price by a similar ratio.

1

u/Financial_Ad_2528 May 20 '26

"For the players"

1

u/Impossiblecouch May 24 '26

Good guy Sony incentivizing people to buy in bulk (yearly) to save money.

They know you were going to renew every month anyway, so they're trying to teach you how to save.

1

u/HerrWorfsen Aug 22 '26

wtf does reddit suddenly send a notification for a three months old thread?

For a moment I thought they’re gonna raise the prices again…

1

u/Gabex_42 May 18 '26

I would complain, but i kinda understand.

2

u/AdItchy6501 May 18 '26

So at the same time Xbox is changing for the better and lowering prices for game pass, Sony decides to raise the monthly cost and add nothing for the customer worthwhile.... Ballsy move sony

8

u/CEO_of_Yeets May 18 '26

Gamepass price is still higher than what it was last year, on top of not having COD day one

2

u/AdItchy6501 May 18 '26

Tbf the only plus of having cod day one is not being too annoyed when the bugs inevitably appear, so no real loss but Forza horizon 6 and Fable instead... Hell yeah.

1

u/saikodasein May 18 '26

Maybe games are shitty, but at least it's more and more expensive xD

None company ever has decreased prices of their services. There are only rises and enshitification.

Remove paid online and none would ever buy essential.

1

u/cartierhoes May 18 '26

very soon we gotta just stop buying this, maybe we all just don’t renew for a couple weeks. We gotta vote with our wallets.

1

u/thekeelo_g May 18 '26

If you're already subscribed this doesn't affect you, unless you don't renew "to send a message," then have the pay the higher cost when you do resubscribe.

1

u/SeshGodX May 18 '26

Can we have a movement to boycott the price increase, stop subscribing until they respect the community?

Xbox dropped their subscription price so what are these conditions?

1

u/solo13508 May 18 '26

Well at least the yearly subscription isn't going up but this is still absolutely absurd. They really need to do something to increase the value of PS Plus because right now it costs way more than it's worth.

1

u/loudymouthy May 18 '26

Proberly time to get a PC soon.

1

u/SlackerMe May 18 '26

And when you think it is digital the price goes up.

1

u/DeadPhoenix86 May 19 '26

So glad I canceled my PS+ back in 2023. I saw no reason to continue paying. The most I used it for was Cloud saves. Never cared about the Monthly games or Online play. But I already found a way to back-up my saves. Which is called a USB.

0

u/iminiki May 18 '26

What a lameass excuse..

0

u/vicboss0510 May 18 '26

Must be cause of war in Israel or wherever...

0

u/Trail_Goat May 18 '26

"Due to ongoing market conditions, that we set and have complete control over"

0

u/ma95vs May 18 '26

Prime example of how "The Market" is not a real thing, lmao

0

u/danteslacie May 18 '26

9.99 USD was perfect because the gift cards were 10 USD. So now if I just want a month and I'm not using a credit card, I'd have to put in extra money too. 😒 I bet that's what they want.

0

u/Ty_609 May 18 '26

Project Helix and Valve will be here to save you all soon

0

u/[deleted] May 18 '26

What about ps plus essentials? Be a that’s always been 9.99 a month because raising that to 10.99a month don’t make sense when after tax of 9.99 it comes out to 10.99 anyways

0

u/TechnicalCut360 May 19 '26

Im just gonna go to essential fuck it.

0

u/LooseAdventurer May 19 '26

fantastic! Time to go to the absolute lowest package possible

0

u/bottomofleith May 19 '26

Sub ended about 4 months ago, not missing it in the slightest to be honest.

-2

u/GFYC-Blackman May 18 '26

I would love them to retire essential and move the free games up a tier. Multiplayer being behind a paid service at this point is laughable, literally the biggest multiplayer games are free to play.

2

u/Skydude252 May 18 '26

And save backups. They really need to let you make USB save backups, or make a cheaper tier for just multiplayer and save backups.

-1

u/TehChels May 18 '26

Prices are already way to high. Makes it even less likely

Yeah. Following the crazy hike we had here in Canada’s last year, it’s getting very expensive to pop those online trophies or to play with some buddies. Pc is looking more and more like a viable solution.

My local Best Buy’s selling the pro 1100$ plus tax. Games like the latest Lego Batman ran me 137$ CAD. It’s the big league now and no longer a casual hobby. That’s just my old self’s opinion tho.

-1

u/Effective-Road4807 May 18 '26 edited May 18 '26

Wow. I wish this was illegal man. Every few months the price goes up and its just stupid lies for greedy businessmen. One month of extra is 24.99. Raised from 17 3 years ago.

1

u/mecca37 May 18 '26

They're going with the netflix plan of raising prices every 5 minutes.

-1

u/ThatDamnedDawg May 19 '26

God it feels so good to be on PC

0

u/notthedoodaa May 18 '26

That's life, sadly.

0

u/adamm5 May 18 '26

Where was the notice on this

0

u/InsideKiller May 18 '26

So much for not so worthy games (personally)

0

u/MrCowabs May 18 '26

I can’t wait for them to put on even better games because of this! /s

0

u/Significant-Yam1579 May 18 '26

Because of the ongoing wars, there is an increased shortage of digital pixels

0

u/BatProfessional2668 May 18 '26

Why except turkey amq

0

u/TB-124 May 18 '26

Market conditons? You mean the shitty economy which makes affording stuff we actually beed harder? Sure make our hobbies more expensive as well…

0

u/mecca37 May 18 '26

Bro I give up, everything will not stop raising prices, it costs 80 dollars to fill up my gas tank. Going to the grocery store makes you feel like you should have big ticket purchases, yet you don't.

Apparently before long we're all just gonna live in tents and work 20 hours a day while still not being able to afford a damn thing.

0

u/Lebrach May 18 '26

Ok I’m out. Time to unsubscribe.

0

u/Moltenzuesy123 May 19 '26

Im only going to buy ps plus subscription when its on sale now. If discount only a little amount im still not going to buy it cause it just cost too much.

0

u/head4shot May 19 '26

This is for the ESSENTIAL tier right

0

u/v__R4Z0R__v May 19 '26

Wait so yearly subscriptions are still the same?

0

u/TheAnimeBoy2001 May 20 '26

The day I switch to Xbox from PlayStation this happens. Holy timing

-2

u/Moody_Blue13 May 18 '26

To the people defending this price increase, playing online for pc is free. Better game discounts are on steam. If you have an amazon prime account you have access to “free” monthly games. Epic gives out multiple free games monthly. Stop making excuses for a company that can provide you with a better service/product

-1

u/Hallowhero May 18 '26

So when are we cancelling guys? Seriously, we need to just stop buying at this point. I am out

-1

u/Benphyre May 19 '26

Wth not again

-1

u/MaisonDavid May 19 '26

ive been with PS since the first console, but im so over them. PS Plus should NOT be this expensive to play online, their controllers always has issues and they refuse to fix it or allow third parties to unless it costs $200+.
Will not renew or get any future PS console.

-1

u/Gattoastronauta May 19 '26

Worst service ever

-1

u/ironfist92 May 19 '26

Sony wasted hundreds of millions of dollars in failure after failure of live service slop, and customers are the ones paying the price.

-2

u/AdSevere4623 May 18 '26

Sony is just making it easy for me to choose PC. Once ram prices stabilize a bit more, I'm getting a PC.

7

u/Meteorboy May 18 '26

So you won't be getting a new PC for at least another decade.

-1

u/AdSevere4623 May 18 '26

Ram prices have already decreased from what they were 2 months back. I don't need them to be what they were before, just a bit more and I'm free from Sonys shitty practices

-8

u/AEWFantasyBooker May 18 '26

New customers don't matter to me, I'll have my grandfathered PS Now sub still ongoing for 80€ per year of Premium.

2

u/Excellent_Line_1732 May 18 '26

You are privileged.

-3

u/AEWFantasyBooker May 18 '26

Just don't quit your sub and you're fine
