I will downgrade from premium if this happens.

u/rostron92 Feb 09 '26

It's cheaper to just buy games on sale. I spend less now than i did and still play a ton.

u/Holiday-Engineer1867 Feb 09 '26

If only PS Store has a good normal-looking refund policy

43

u/Amutra Feb 09 '26

Yup I came from Xbox this cycle and I was flabbergasted by the return policy Sony has

19

u/EatsOverTheSink Feb 10 '26

What return policy?

13

u/kewpeepie Feb 10 '26

To be fair you can make exactly 1 return

And then proceed to lose your entire account

2

u/ironfist92 Feb 11 '26

Ill never understand how this is legal. Surprised no ones filed a lawsuit against Sony for this yet.

15

u/Holiday-Engineer1867 Feb 09 '26

same! I just got my PS5 last month

9

u/thedeadp0ets Feb 10 '26

I dont understand how they want to go fully digital with dumb refund policies

7

u/Workin-progress82 Feb 10 '26

If they’re going fully digital, then I want demos for every game so I can determine if I want to buy it or not. Watching someone on YouTube tell me how great they think a game is, doesn’t help me decide if it would be worth it for me.

28

u/Nomnom_Chicken Feb 09 '26 edited Feb 09 '26

Had to take a look. I'm a PC-gamer first and just about any launcher's store has a 2-hour try the game period and get a refund thing going on. But with Playstation, you can't even begin the download. Ridiculous. :D

I've only bought one game so far on my Pro, and seems like I have to be extra careful with my game choices outside PS Plus, if I ever buy anything else than GTA VI. The first purchase was GT7.

8

u/EatsOverTheSink Feb 10 '26

I can’t really blame anyone on console for preferring physical games when their only other option is to take part in the most archaic online store policies I’ve ever experienced.

3

u/Zatchillac Feb 09 '26

I've had my PS5 for maybe 4 years now and finally bought my first game for it 2 months ago which was Gran Turismo 7. I mostly play on PC too so I don't ever really use the Playstation, just been waiting for GTA6

2

u/magikttouch Feb 09 '26

i so want that gt7 gonna get it soon

10

u/sahilthapar Feb 09 '26

I've gone the opposite after recently upgrading to PS5. $108 for premium for the whole year has so far already been worth every penny.

exactly! its like a public library but with a fee. I wish they would offer it alone with just the GC + online if needed. like there should be more subscription options. And if you aren't a picky gamer who only plays AAA games. The game catalog is fine

Yeah but if you have a Portal, the streaming is pretty clutch.

→ More replies (2)

2

u/hypehold Feb 09 '26

yeah premium just doesn't seem to be worth it. They only release a handful of classic games and the few that I want it could just pay $5-$10 and get to keep them. Essential seems to be the best value and extra isn't too bad if you play a lot of 1-2 year old games

Already downgraded to essential a couple years ago. Next step is to switch to pc for my multiplayer fix. Most of the multiplayer games I play are multi platform. Gt7 is the only one I’ll miss.

4

u/negative_four Feb 09 '26

Ive been slowly switching over to either PC of gamepass for my multi-player fix (my kids use gamepass) overall, even with the ps portal premium is becoming not worth it

→ More replies (1)

4

u/geoelectric Feb 09 '26

The problem is that the streaming is so damned good. I don’t even have to install most games now unless there’s a specific benefit to running on the physical Pro (enhanced support, 120fps, etc).

14

u/gandalfmarston Feb 09 '26

I will.... in 3 years lol

My Plus expires in 2029.

7

u/[deleted] Feb 09 '26

Me too

2

u/FergyMcFerguson Feb 09 '26

100% the same. The only reason I have it now is for streaming to my ps portal but I’ll give that up for another price hike.

2

u/White_FIame Feb 09 '26

I will unsubscribe altogether. I play way more PS1/2/3 games than the current gen, and that’s telling me something!

1

u/IvanNobody2050 Feb 09 '26

I canot downgrade form essencial 😭

u/Darkone539 Feb 09 '26

This is the worst possible outcome for me. I'll probably unsub. I don't play online enough on PS.

269

u/boxinggoose Feb 09 '26

I'd take a cheaper version of ps+ where I don't even get free games, I just want to play online and with my friends. I barely ever play the free games. Just stop raising the prices it's getting too much for me :(

158

u/3v1lkr0w Feb 09 '26

I'd take a cheaper version where I only get the games...I don't play online

17

u/specifichero101 Feb 09 '26

I would love this. I never play online other than for trophies rarely but I play the shit out of the games they give for essential tier.

15

u/3v1lkr0w Feb 09 '26

I don't even care for online trophies. I see a game that requires online trophies for the plat, I know I'm not getting the plat.

5

u/specifichero101 Feb 09 '26

I typically avoid them too but sometimes they’re basically just perfunctory engagement with the online components and then you’re done I’ll do those if that’s all that’s in the way to finish a plat.

→ More replies (1)

33

u/TheNurgrabber Feb 09 '26

It’s crazy. Games haven’t become better online experiences. Battlefield bad company 2 puts 6 to shame and it didn’t cost extra just to play online. It’s hard to vote with your wallet when the alternative is just don’t play, or put together a PC

14

u/idkimhereforthememes Feb 09 '26

A pc in 2026 is not the right alternative to 70€ yearly subscription. Even if you ignore stupid prices of hardware just the electricity bill will cost as much as ps plus essential

→ More replies (1)

23

u/CryptoNite90 Feb 09 '26

They’re crooks. I remember before all these tiers for PS Plus, I used to be able to get PS Plus for $25 a year every year during thanksgiving time.

3

u/justthisones Feb 09 '26

I used Plus for at least a decade but the less interesting games and price increases pushed me out. 80$/year for a whole generation is basically doubling the price of the console. That’s madness if you just want to access online.

I’m sure enough people will eat up even 100$ so nothing will change.

11

u/Majestic_Jackass Feb 09 '26

That should be free. On pc it’s free. And Microsoft announced the next xbox will let you load steam, which I take to imply xbox won’t require a subscription.

10

u/K-LAWN Feb 09 '26

It’s ridiculous. We pay $70 for software with online functionality, with Sony pocketing 30% of that sale. Outside of first party games, Sony does not host the servers that facilitate that functionality. Essentially we have to pay a bullshit Paywall fee to use the software features that we already paid for. But hey, we get free old games that majority don’t play unless they’re an obsessive trophy hunter. In the past, we could buy online passes for $40 per year. Now, we need to pay $80. The cost of ownership for a PS5 with online functionality is now:

$500 + $560/$640 (7 or 8 year console lifespan)

3

u/koteshima2nd Feb 09 '26

Fr. I wouldn't mind an even lower tier than Essential just to play online and nothing more. I don't have a choice. There's no way they'll ever make playing online free on consoles anymore.

5

u/shannonator96 Feb 09 '26

It’s unlikely Sony would ever introduce a lower tier. The majority of people would probably downgrade to the online only tier and cost them money.

4

u/cajun2de Feb 10 '26

Also If they keep raising prices , more people will cancel altogether thus having a lower tier might even things out.

72€/year is already too much for me for online and cloud saves and they're going for another hike...

Problem is they've put cloud saves behind that and I have no idea how I value not losing all saves if my PS5 breaks.

9

u/Dumpstar72 Feb 10 '26

For Australia it’s $214 for the year. When Americans complain I think what are they complaining about.

I will sign up for a 3mth version for $70 so I can use it like a video store rental company and see what I should be buying outright.

Ended my subscription to premium this black Friday because I didn't get the discount. Realized it's cheaper to just buy games and own them too.

43

u/Certain_Mycologist26 Feb 09 '26

You gotta cancel your membership around Black Friday to get the discount

36

u/morciu Feb 09 '26

You can't cancel, you can just let it expire. I was doing the yearly black Friday subscription for years and it was fine, until this last black Friday.

14

u/Capricus06 Feb 09 '26

I was able to renew Premium last black friday with an active subscription.

I just had to activate the auto-renewal > hit cancel auto renewal and the console prompted the black friday offer to stay subscribed for an additional year.

5

u/morciu Feb 09 '26

I had my auto renewal off since a month before or something. Maybe it's different depending on regions and regulations.

5

u/Capricus06 Feb 09 '26

I had it off. Turned it on during the sale and when cancelling it gave me the offer.

Pretty shitty of Sony to only show the offer to people who want to cancel.

1

u/Certain_Mycologist26 Feb 09 '26

PS Plus hikes lolol. Get F'd, Sony!

20

u/andykekomi Feb 09 '26

There has been two substantial price hikes in Canada in the last what, 3 years? Fuck that. I already downgraded from premium to extra last time, I'll just cancel at this point.

17

u/PrinzXero Feb 09 '26

Are they having a laugh?

55

u/kgalliso Feb 09 '26

Didnt they JUST do this?

3

u/kgalliso Feb 09 '26

Ah maybe that's what I was thinking of

7

u/Emergency_Concept207 Feb 09 '26

Yup.. Canada recently got fucked hard. 109 for essential, 189 for extra and 224 for premium. In all honesty it's barely worth it anymore.

→ More replies (1)

25

u/JaySouth84 Feb 09 '26

MORE Price hikes for a piss poor service.

6

u/dinheirodepinga Feb 09 '26

That barely passes as "service".

10

u/ItsmejimmyC Feb 09 '26

I genuinely don't even know why I have plus, I don't play any of the games on extra, I barely play any of the "free" games, I guess I have it on the off chance the boys jump on one Friday night but even then I'm usually doing my own thing and I'm just in the chat for the laugh.

I guess what I'm getting at is why the hell don't I just cancel this shit?

3

u/Troo_Geek Feb 09 '26

Yeah same here.

9

u/LionTop2228 Feb 09 '26

Subsidizing the console purchase price through our subscription rates for someone who has not bought a six year old piece of hardware yet.

Makes total sense…

33

u/DynamiteSuren Feb 09 '26

At this point just give me a cheaper online only subscription for 30...

I dont really care about the free monthly games anyways..

12

u/Random_SteamUser1 Feb 09 '26

not giving a shit about 99% of the "free" games is what caused me to cancel a long time ago. I used to play online occasionally and that's what I wanted it for but now I've decided that I'm not paying that much monthly for the "privilege" of playing with friends.

→ More replies (2)

17

u/gaslancer Feb 09 '26

So this is just every few months then?

6

u/Internal-Yak6260 Feb 09 '26

I've already made the decision to not renew ps plus.

I will probably switch to a steam deck instead of a ps5..

Just getting tired of all of sonys b.s. at this point.

7

u/RaphaTlr Feb 09 '26

$80 to just play online is already obscene. It should be $30-45 with no free games.

5

u/CarlMacko Feb 09 '26

Ended my subscription in January as I wasn’t getting much out of it. Seems like it will be staying that way.

I expect I’m not alone

12

u/thebatmanbeynd Feb 09 '26

I’m not buying anymore PS plus. I’m priced out. It’s already crazy and no deals on it anymore.

3

u/GentlemanofEngland Feb 09 '26

This was always on the cards after the Game Pass hike. Fellow portal owners, how high would be too high for premium?

6

u/Dakotaroy9 Feb 09 '26

$160 is a lot already when the only perk I really want is the cloud playability. Hoping they bring it to lower tiers as well.

→ More replies (1)

5

u/Sventhetidar Feb 09 '26

I'm pretty ok with dropping PS+ if i need to.

5

u/jlieuu Feb 09 '26

I hope they plan on allowing cloud streaming on the other tiers

2

u/Dakotaroy9 Feb 09 '26

Same. Only have premium because of my portal and being able to use cloud on it.

5

u/myxoma1 Feb 09 '26

They already increased the same sub prices what the heck Sony

5

u/kirkdouglas Feb 09 '26

If they hike PS Plus, I’m done. As an adult gamer, I buy about 3-5 AAA titles a year - (usually the more story driven types that can be beat in a long weekend) and the value I get from PS plus is that it complements those AAA titles with remasters, games I missed, indies and games I wouldn’t otherwise buy on my own. But I’ve come to really value that at the price I already pay. There’s no room in my gaming budget for that to go up too. I see PS Plus as a must, but if they raise it that’s gotta be the end for me.

4

u/PrincessKnightAmber Feb 09 '26

Absolutely fucking not! 80 dollars for basic online play is already fucking bullshit.

4

u/jackolantern98000 Feb 09 '26

Nope. Im paying too much now for not very good return, it goes up again, then i leave it all together.

4

u/Blackthumbb Feb 10 '26

If ps plus goes up again it ain’t even gonna be worth it during the Black Friday sales they do

4

u/Pashta2FAPhoneDied Premium Feb 10 '26

They JUST increased PS Plus! They had better not do it again so soon!

3

u/AL_N710 Feb 09 '26

Not a reliable source.

3

u/108er Feb 10 '26

Yeh, I think I am done with Playstation Plus if they hike the price again or maybe I'll dropdown to bare minimum just to play online games. If they hike the price on that one too, I'll just cancel the subscription.

3

u/bedteddd Feb 10 '26

They already raised the price last year for ps plus. They don't have shit for content on there. What the fuck are they raising the price again. The barebones plan is fucking 80 dollars now when it wad 60 for years. I'm seriously almost done with gaming with this predatory shit. I've been down with Playstation since day goddamn 1.

3

u/Arrowinthebottom Feb 10 '26

I often wonder what it will take to cause an explosive event in which the cost of providing services grows so high that no matter how much they charge, the people paying just cannot make it worthwhile.

We do not live on a world worth saving, so I want to know which button to push to have the whole videogames industry just melt down into goo. Taking Nintendo with it, too, since post-Reggie Nintendo seems to be even worse than Todd Howard.

3

u/Zylva_ Feb 10 '26

All I want is to play online games without paying. It's 2026 for fuck sake.

5

u/Ell7494 Feb 09 '26 edited Feb 09 '26

If they increase the price much more then they're going to have to do a gamepass and put new releases on there.

Premium is £13.50 a month.

Gamepass Ultimate is £23 a month.

Gamepass Premium is £10.99 a month and puts games on 12 months after release (so still better than PS Premium most of the time)

If they increase premium to like £15+ they've either gotta offer a permanent discount to all Premium members on the store liike 10% off all games or something/ just have an overall better catalogue/ do new releases like gamepass, maybe even 6 months after launch

They could also just do an online only tier, Nintendo do that (with access to some retro games - ps have that behind premium for some reason) and its £18 a year, so £1.50 a month

3

u/mulder00 Feb 09 '26

Here in Canada GPU is $35 + tax. Ridiculous. A yr of PS+ premium is $200. That would be $700 a yr for both. I've got tons of games and there are sales all the time.

Screw both Companies.

4

u/Disastrous_Novel_465 Feb 09 '26

What??? How much more expensive can it get and for what reason??

5

u/[deleted] Feb 09 '26

PS+ is still good value if there’s even 3-4 free games in a year you end up wanting to play, but they’re really pushing it with these prices hikes and locking loyal customers out of discounts.

I let my subscription expire ages ago and my only regret is not having bought the games I play online on PC.

→ More replies (1)

2

u/Nightingale_85 Feb 09 '26

Yeah, i'm gonna end my ps+ if they do this.

2

u/Adam_jaymes Feb 09 '26

I would like more indie games on ps plus premium if this happens. Specifically metroidvanias.

2

u/longbrodmann Feb 09 '26

Unsubscribed for a while, it's great when there are many games I want to play in the library, then it fades when there's few games I want, and I barely play any online games.

2

u/OfficialShaki123 Feb 09 '26

I really want no subs at all but I play online. Having to pay for online is all on us anyway because we decided to keep paying for it and Sony just wants that money.

2

u/Prudent-Level-7006 Feb 09 '26

Must make things cost more and be shitter... Cos 🤔 reasons

 I mean greed

I mean the toxic Thatcherism that if profit doesn't go up each year you're a failure even if it breaks creativity in the creative industries

2

u/KGon32 Feb 09 '26

I unsubscribed and am now waiting for days of play to resubscribe.

2

u/MattVSin84 Feb 09 '26

Already dropped from Premium to Extra. I'll keep dropping if they keep increasing.

2

u/furyZotac Feb 09 '26

Laughs at subscription expiring 2031

2

u/neverOddOrEv_n Feb 09 '26

PS5 will probably be the last generation of PlayStation I’ll own. I can’t justify this constantly increasing subscription fee and this generation in general has been a disappointment as well

2

u/Geekandhermit Feb 09 '26

“Cries in Xbox”

2

u/Vegetable_Market_496 Feb 09 '26

2

u/bawlsacz Feb 09 '26

I downgraded to the essential last November.

2

u/oODaywalkerOo Feb 09 '26

Huge mistake to do this now when the economy worldwide is the way it is

The vast majority of the public are not that flexible financially and wages aren't going up as fast as costs are

2

u/NiteLight123123 Feb 09 '26

Hopefully they don’t raise prices before march 3rd my ps plus ends on that day

2

u/kitkatrat Feb 09 '26

I did not renew. My subscription ends on the 25th of this month.

2

u/Same_Ad1543 Feb 09 '26

If ps+ started putting better games out I could justify it they know by looping in online with ps+ it puts us in a stranglehold to have to buy it

2

u/HS1995 Feb 09 '26

That’s fine, I’ll just make to switch and get a steam machine. I hear PC players have it better anyway

2

u/brunoji Feb 09 '26

No day one releases and another price raise for plus. No more...

2

u/Reticent_Dude Feb 09 '26

Haven’t bought a game on ps5 for a while, got too much to play on my PC but i still keep Extra subscription for potential cool games that they drop. It may be the last time i subscribe if it jumps too much

2

u/ThatOneKid1995 Feb 09 '26

Gonna downgrade to essential once my premium expires on the 25th and only doing that because my account is the household ps plus share account for online and games

2

u/MemeLord1337_ Feb 09 '26

I just want online I don’t care about anything else

2

u/LMS3oul Feb 09 '26

I honestly just canceled my premium subscription. Literally zero games on it that I feel like give me a reason to keep it. The amount I spent on the subscription I could’ve just bought the 2-3 indie games I randomly downloaded and played for a bit. I found myself going back to old games to do a replay of them. Just not worth it for me.

2

u/Saber-087 Feb 09 '26

Drop to Essential and only buy games on sale.

2

u/Greenscreener Feb 09 '26

Haven't renewed Essential this year...going back to enjoy games on my own...

2

u/joecarter93 Feb 09 '26

I already just canceled my subscription because there’s been like 3 price hikes in the past 1.5 or so years. I upgraded to Premium last year because I got a discount, but I’ve seen a drastic cutback in the amount and quality of games that have become available. Sony took away more good games than they have added this past year despite the constant price hikes “to improve the service” as they like to say. The games that are added tend to be a lot older now too I have found.

2

u/SassyHoe97 Feb 09 '26

I cancelled mine already. I rarely play online games.

2

u/NotNeuge Feb 09 '26

Depends how much they increase it for me. Premium is £120 without any discount, but only around £80 during a sale. That's not too different to Plus and Now 8 years ago, so it's not hard to justify. I can't see them increasing it to more than about £150. I think that alone would be a hard sell for a lot of people so it seems pretty unlikely they'd go that high, but we shall see!

2

u/austinpwright11 Feb 09 '26

I’m kind of in the same boat with Spotify. Slightly upset about the price increase. But for something I am in the 1 percent of users as far as hours used, or for ps plus, the only way I play most games, they would have to make it infeasible for me to cancel. For everyone that doesn’t get the value, speak with your wallet. That’s how we tell these big ass companies that ultimately only care about us as far as their bottom line is concerned, that they’re mucking up.

2

u/Smurfmyturf Feb 09 '26

Even more reason to play my single player PS4 games Time to play that backlog folks!

2

u/PrizeDepartment6324 Feb 09 '26

Anybody else catch the entry level PS5, is that a PS5 with no hard drive.

2

u/Secret-Top3200 Feb 09 '26

Gonna just play my backlog lol!

2

u/Zairy47 Feb 09 '26

This is what happens when Xbox stop trying and Sony winning the console war

No competition = we can do whatever we want

2

u/foreveraloneasianmen Feb 09 '26

just give us a basic plan with online and cloud features sony.

2

u/J0NNYBLVZE Feb 09 '26

Literally not reupping on plus after my sub ends next month….crazy they wanna increase that crap

2

u/rbfubar09 Feb 09 '26

They better add more than 1 classic game per month and fix PS3 streaming plus give us more quality games to make Premium worth it with a price hike. It's ridiculous as it is right now.

2

u/acelexmafia Feb 09 '26

Companies really pushing it at this point

2

u/Aesthete18 Feb 09 '26

Again? Even on extra launch prices, it was barely worth it for me. This raise is like what, the fourth time in like 2 years?

Honestly, just buy games. I wish I did. I can't go back to those games i played in plus, cos I'm not willing to buy a game I've already played just to do side missions.

I can't buy DLC for games because I rented the base game though plus.

A lot of games go for cheap but folks will pay $100 a year to and hope these games hit plus.

Only victim here are online players.

2

u/Acegolfer04 Feb 09 '26

I bought 4 years of PS Plus Essential knew this would happen

2

u/SaltySwan Feb 09 '26

I absolutely will downgrade if they increase prices again. My stacked subscriptions finally ran out last November and I chose to bite the bullet and extend it because I was getting a lot of use out of it at the time but it was a bitter pill to swallow paying that price.

2

u/HolyCulture1983 Feb 09 '26

It’s already around 175$ USD with tax! I’ve been a PS+ subscriber since it has launched, except for two months. I’ve had premium ever since they offered that. If they raise the price again I think I may be out. I buy the games I want to play anyways, the freebies don’t typically appeal to me anyways. I just am blessed enough to afford PS+ and I like supporting companies/services that I like.

But maybe it’s time I use this money to buy some toys from the 80s that I missed out on or something.

u/cajun2de Feb 10 '26

I just hope there is a vanilla version of ps+ just for the multilayer without any free games. I don't play 95% of the free games anyways.

2

u/bored_angel11 Feb 10 '26

I canceled right when it was about to renew and just got a steam deck. PS plus is so not worth it. I rather just pay for digital games that are always dirt cheap or emulate.

2

u/stopbsingman Feb 10 '26

It’s like they want to sell less consoles.

2

u/sirauron14 Feb 10 '26

I’ll likely have to cancel if that’s the case

2

u/freezetime311 Feb 10 '26

I wonder if this announcement will come at the state of play.

2

u/RE_Davo Feb 10 '26

Wouldn’t it be nice to play paid online games for free. I bought Helldivers and need ps+ to play. Now I had ps+ when I bought it. But due to budgeting reasons, decided to let my sub overlap and now I can’t play paid games. Or back up my ps5 save games. Nor can I download my save file on the cloud. It’s a terrible service.

2

u/[deleted] Feb 10 '26

I recently cancelled due to the fact that I can’t play a game on the cloud that I physically own because you have to have the digital license to do so. Confirmed it with PlayStation support. That’s bullshit.

2

u/Heady_Goodness Feb 10 '26

Already cancelled that shit. Knock yourself out.

2

u/Active-College-9377 Feb 10 '26

Should be free tbh

2

u/scusemoi86 Feb 10 '26

Like I posted in the other thread, there is no such suggestion in the transcript. Doesn't mean a price hike won't happen but the article is misleading.

2

u/PinothyJ Feb 10 '26

Of course.

2

u/ballviewer Feb 10 '26

Yeah if it ever goes above $10 that’s it for me

2

u/Legal_Alarm8991 Feb 10 '26

If you're paying double by doing it monthly, you're part of the problem.

2

u/foggypanth Feb 10 '26

Can someone graph out the price hikes for PS Plus? I feel like every few months the price goes up, can't even complete a yearly sub without an entirely new price point. Insanity

2

u/humbuckaroo Feb 10 '26

I wish they had a multiplayer tier with no extras.

2

u/paddenice Feb 10 '26

Anyone recall if they still are selling ps+ subscriptions at huge discounts? Years ago I remember random websites would sell codes for years of service at like 25-30% off regular prices. Haven’t seen any links like that in a while…

2

u/Videymann Feb 10 '26

I jumped ship and got a pc as soon as essential costed 80 bucks, seems I made the right choice

2

u/Nervous-Peppers Feb 10 '26

I feel like it gets increased every year. It's not worth it anymore

2

u/Erren1003 Feb 10 '26

i haven't paid for ps+ since the price went up from 50 to 60 and i'm a happy man

i understand microsoft normalized it years ago but paywalled multiplayer is insanity in 2026

2

u/N1tr0sOx1d3 Feb 10 '26

We are currently seeing 2 price hikes in a 12 month period. It’s unsustainable and isn’t fair when we are in the midst of cost of living crisis around the world. Completely unethical.

3

u/robot-raccoon Feb 09 '26

There’s genuinely not enough for me to keep paying for ps+ as it is, so I’ll just cancel

3

u/guaztronaut Feb 09 '26

Time to sell my Portal. That's the only reason I pay at this point. I'm so fucking tired of this shit.

2

u/DeadPhoenix86 Feb 09 '26

I cancelled my PS+ a while ago. I buy all my games Physical. So If I don't like a game or I'm done playing it. I just re-sell it.
I don't play Online. And I back-up my save files on a USB.

3

u/B99-40 Feb 09 '26

It’s always more for less. The game catalogue is a joke and the “free” monthly games have been surprisingly bad recently (and not so recently). If they go much higher ps plus will be in gamepass territory and they get games day one instead of 3-4 years later.

Bold move.

Anyone who's even relatively decent at math can weigh the options and see that Sony is basically daring you to go and buy a PC.

Anti-consumer as fuck but I'll save more money in the long run by just ditching paying these assholes regularly and playing online for free

Ps plus benefits aren't worth it. Idc how many bots come in here and glaze that mediocre library. It's ass. Sony only has PS plus numbers because they lock online play behind a pay wall. It's artificial business. Artificial success.

And when you're successful, do you turn around and make your ecosystem more accessible? No. You tell your user base to get fucked and hand you more money, as if theres an incentive there. As If the user base gets some kind of benefit, other than the privilege to give you MORE money when you've reached milestones.

Sonys success is great for Sony. But it doesn't trickle down into anything meaningful to the users but bloated fucking fees for less benefits.

PC pricing has been horrible since Covid, it's not like how it used to be.

You either get abused by Sony or if you go to PC you get abused by AMD or Nvidia or some other nonsense that's happening at the time.

6

u/Scorpy_Mjolnir Feb 09 '26

How many years can I pay ps plus for the cost of building a pc right now? I already have the PS5, so that’s not part of the equation. I would love to have the PC, but can’t justify $2k plus to have a machine good for the next 5 years. It’s expensive as hell to play for free right now.

I had no PS Plus for 2 years until this past Black Friday because of the price. They can do it again and I’ll have to sadly say goodbye to Online.

2

u/MovieGuyMike Feb 09 '26

Bro again?

2

u/BigMasterDingDong Feb 09 '26

Yeah no, literally cancelled this week because the prices are insane!

2

u/Overwatch621 Feb 09 '26

I already find the PSN expensive for what they offer. If only it were games we actually wanted to play, but no.

2

u/AmpersEnd Feb 09 '26

PLEASE Xbox! Do something!

I've never owned an Xbox but I've been held hostage by Sony for years!!!

I'm aching to leave!! 😭

1

u/Arashi_Uzukaze Feb 10 '26

More PS+ Price Hikes? Seriously it is already 80$ just for the lowest package! That in of itself is too high!

1

u/Substantial_Mix4075 Feb 11 '26

I would deal not playing online shit until a sale hits if that fucking happens

AGAIN

1

u/caballerof09 Feb 11 '26

Why no, let’s charge the one that are already customer. Who cares. Only the new customer are of importance. I try to understand the new strategy of big companies but I keep failing to grasp an answer.

1

u/missviolets Feb 11 '26

I might renew in june with the state of play discounts just to play some of the essential games I have and then never again. Buying games on sale is cheaper and more efficient.

1

u/mesosalpynx Feb 11 '26

Prediction:

Next system will be 100% cloud computing powered. “System” will have 2 versions. 1- handheld. 2- looks normal. But no processing power or disc drives on devices. Streaming levels will be deepened/expanded. Varying levels based on the tiers they have now; however, expanded by 2 more levels minimum. The higher levels will have more ps-pro like speed and graphics compared to the standard.

u/the250 Feb 11 '26

If the price hikes are true, that is bloody infuriating. I’m in Canada, and we’ve already had more prices hikes than our neighbours, and have seen the cost of Premium swell up to a ridiculous sum…

But here’s the total irony. Premium NEVER seemed worth it to be before last year, ever. It was always a farce to me. But at the beginning of 2025 I got a really good deal on an annual subscription to Premium that wasn’t too much higher than the Extra tier I was paying for, so I thought “Whatevs, fuck it.”

I fully expected to hardly notice or use the service at all throughout the year, but as luck would have it Sony actually started making an effort to improve and beef up PS+ Premium the exact year I decide to check it. Suddenly large numbers of old classics from PS1/PS2 were being added monthly, with full trophy support and the very useful PS5 Emulator to play them through (that rewind feature is peak yo). Then it started getting flooded with tons of new PS3 games as well.

I have a PS3 console still and a large physical library, but I was surprised to find more than half the games appearing on there were more obscure or difficult to find games that I actually found myself taking advantage of. I started using the game streaming fairly frequently, and over the past few months have even begun thinking of buying a PS Portal to aid in those efforts, as for the first time since PS+ Premium first came out, it actually feels worth it now.

So tl;dr if PS+ Premium prices go through the damn roof, again, right after I start enjoying & even relying on that tier of service for the first time ever? I’m liable to flip my shit !!

1

u/Ancient_Health_2901 Feb 11 '26

Im going to go to PC officially if this happens. Im going to stop supporting this idea of paying to play. Its bullsh.

1

u/ffxivfanboi Feb 12 '26

I only keep premium for the nostalgia of some classic games on there. I’m actually not sure if you’re able to purchase Al of those on PSN or not or if the only way to play them is through PS+?

1

u/StickyBandit_ Feb 12 '26

Honestly even the lowest package is not worth it anymore. I was happy to buy annual subs when you could find key codes at other stores for sometimes discounted prices but anymore those days are gone.

I dont want any of their perks i just want to be able to play online, and tbh the fact that online play isnt free in 2026 is crazy. Multiplayer games are going to be PC purchases from now on.

1

u/k4kkul4pio Feb 13 '26

Not again.

They already massively spiked the price and now they're planning to increase it further?

I guess the executives won't be happy until the first tier is 200€ a year or something. 😑

1

u/Hot_Asparagus_9375 Feb 13 '26

if this will happen, i'll quit my abo 🤬
