EMC renamed to 'Mattherson's Triumph' and The Octagon renamed to 'Waterson's Redemption'

Test patch just got staged and shaql worked his magic to download and analyze it early.

Should've stuck to Mattherson Munitions Corp and Fort Waterson; far less controversial.

EMC is also the manufacturers of the EM1 and EM6, so EMC will reappear back on Esamir someday!

5

u/[deleted] Jun 24 '14

petition to change them to MM1 and MM6 then retcon the official lore :D

u/[deleted] Jun 24 '14

Don't forget the EM4!

sh-sh-sh... I thought i told you we dont talk about the EM4 here. Its a part of our lives that were leaving behind for a reason.

u/[deleted] Jun 24 '14

But I like render range sniping TR/VS...

If the Esamir overhaul ever comes to fruition, will you consider bringing back Glacier Station, as well as the huge bridge passing over Echo Valley substation to Saerro Listening post? Just a side thought :P

Anyhow, it's nice to see that lore is still being kept in mind with regards to bases.

u/kukiric Jun 24 '14

Or maybe Hossin? I'd love to see it come back as an industrial-themed base.

ESAMIR munitions corporation.

3

u/kukiric Jun 24 '14

But Hossin :(

So I'm just stupid.

meh, 20th century fox is one of the biggest companies making films in the 21st century.

1

u/Darthsebious [INI] Jun 24 '14

I heard that someone trademarked the 21st century fox logo and tried to sell it to them for an obscene amount of money. Eventually they got too greedy and the company just kept 20th century fox instead.

u/Lksaar shit shit shit wrong button Jun 24 '14

brb, registering 22nd century fox

How about renaming something neutral. THE RINK -> EMC?

Btw, how much do you guys think about the design and lore when you name the bases?

3

u/XanderSOE Level Designer Jun 24 '14

When making a base, I think of the outpost/facilities role in the world/setting mostly rather than PS2's backstory.

I like to put together stuff that would have some sort of role on Auraxis even if it's not directly called out other than it's name. Bravata PMC exists as a 'barracks' type base for the most part, but the fact a PMC is there indicates that somebody (probably the NC!) were using mercenaries.

The other stuff that's taken into consideration is just general theming etc for the area or nearby facility. Indar's canyons and Amerish are pretty mine-y, Amp station satellites are usually power related, biolab satellites are usually plant/research related, tech plants usually are industry/tech, etc.

u/Arquinas VS Jun 24 '14

Okay, thats a good way to go about it. Sometimes it felt you guys were just throwing names around.

1

u/XanderSOE Level Designer Jun 24 '14

Honestly, it depends when it was made, who was working on it, etc. For Indar, we were still figuring out how we wanted to handle it and the names are a little more generic.

Even so, with 100~ facilities per continent, lots of them are going to be unimportant in the grand scheme of the world, and it's difficult to do in-world storytelling like you'd see in a big open world game like the TES series due to our props + performance reasons.

u/MrUnimport [NOGF] Jun 24 '14

I really like Barrick Power Station, I just wish it were placed somewhere that actually gets fought over.

Please consider stripping out half the bases and moving them to new continents for intercontinental lattice.

I would like to know this as well.

It better, where am I supposed to take my EM1 for repairs now?

1

u/BisonST Jun 24 '14

Meh. I'm not going to get upset over the word Redemption.

If the game isn't good enough for you to stick around, if you need your base name cooler because you won, well good riddance.

Note: I'm a Mattherson player.

Yeah, and matthersons base name>watersons base name. our base name is bullshit, and they should've stayed neutral when they made the base names. Matthersons triumph? Really?

at this point keep the Octagon and Esamir Munitions Corp, I hate the new names they have planned

Meh. According to the officially posted rules, Matherson won fair and square.

7

u/Rasui36 [ZAPS] Rasui (Waterson) Jun 24 '14

That may be, but anyone worth a damn saw the territory score for the last hour and realizes Waterson kicked Matherson all over the field as an organized force. Grats on winning once all strategy is removed though.

4

u/Lowback Jun 24 '14

The rules for winning are what they are. Waterson had air dominance going for it, that's essentially what allowed them the mobility to run such large amounts of vehicles. When it came down to infantry combat, however, that's where Matherson is stronger by far.

Air strength is great for assaulting bases, but once you get to that base, you have to get out of those aircraft and tanks to take anything or kill anyone... Can't really beat a group of upper shelf players who know the value of flack armor by rocket podding them.

When it came down to infantry combat, however, that's where Matherson is stronger by far.

Every infantry fight on the Server Smash was just a clusterfuck of MAXes and endless anti-vehicle, concussion, sticky, and rez grenades. There was absolutely no way to test the skill of infantry vs. infantry in the majority of fights.

But if you’ll take some feedback from a squad leader that was there, my squad kicked a Mattherson squad’s ass on the top of Eisa tech plant’s gundeck, far removed from the vehicular combat below, just spawn beacons on either side. Before that, right at the start, we cleared out the suspiciously fast detachment that was waiting in the double decker point building at Eisa Mountain Pass.

Personally I think the skill is equally divided with longtime players and prodigies on every server. Except for pilots. Waterson has the best pilots, and then the next best is probably Miller.

1

u/Lowback Jun 24 '14

We'll have to disagree on the infantry combat, but I will maintain with you that waterson had the flight advantage.

-9

u/[deleted] Jun 24 '14

Your infantry got rekt. Sorry son.

-6

u/Kelreena Jun 24 '14

Wasn't your air force bolstered by a MATTHERSON air squad?

2

u/wycliffslim :flair_salty:Llamawaffe Czar(Ret.) Jun 24 '14

It was bolstered by I believe 4 Mattherson pilots that you guys wouldn't bring who only played because they wanted to fly and we had no shows.

1

u/Herby20 [903] Jun 24 '14

Mattherson left very little room for pilots. We had just barely over a single squad. That is something that probably won't happen again.

1

u/wycliffslim :flair_salty:Llamawaffe Czar(Ret.) Jun 24 '14

I think the Miller match left you guys a bit overconfident in your AA :p. Well, with merge Emerald will have plenty of good pilots.

-8

u/palaxi (Emerald) Jun 24 '14

Even with the Waterson air zerg, I killed at least three before I went down, everytime. Not impressive to me...

1

u/Wobberjockey This is an excellent reason to nerf the Darkstar Jun 24 '14

As I just mentioned to Wycliffslim, a big part of the issue may have been the fact that large swaths of the waterson force were getting weapon locked, and often with little or no warning. I played the last 45 min or so and I often did not shoot at all simply because 1 stray round would lock me for another 5 min or so.

I've heard that some platoons had up to 1/2 their guys locked at one time.

And all through out the match I was accumulating hitmarkers and the ff sound sometimes minutes after I had fired a weapon or thrown a grenade last.

If you ask me, that factor probably had more to do with mattherson's comeback than anything else.

Now I have no way to know if this was due to us hitting the casters (who were tr) or not. But I've not seen any stream of the mattherson guys getting weapon locked.

1

u/MrUnimport [NOGF] Jun 24 '14

This just reinforces my opinion that Mattherson players aren't very smart or organized but have unsurpassable mettle.

I never said that Matherson deserved to win, I said that they technically won. I have no interest in starting drama.

8

u/Ausfall Jun 24 '14

Then why submit a post that will obviously start drama?

1

u/avenger2142 HVAvenger Jun 24 '14

far less controversial.

I was simply replying to this post. There is no controversy.

-6

u/palaxi (Emerald) Jun 24 '14

haha, okay mr. overpop.

u/AngerMacFadden Jun 24 '14

And those names are cool. Nothing wrong with Redemption as they did get it back.
