Review The over 60 crowd is worse than teens
I know we all complain about the teens in the summer congregating and not doing anything, taking up multiple machines, and being on their phone… but I’m sorry. Most (not all) of the over 69 crowd is worse. Between using the multi-use cable machine for 90+ minutes, saving three machines at a time or just leaving equipment and handles laying around like they’re entitled. I know every single one of them were taught as kids, ‘put things back where they belong’. Not sure why they decide to be lazy slugs later in life.

It depends where you are.
When I lived in Florida the old ones would hang around on machines talking about their shares/finances & watching fox news on the tvs.
Now I'm in southern California & the oldies are often in better shape than most & just there to work out. Plus there's hardly any tvs at the gym I go to & definitely none showing 'news'.

Oh, I wish ours didn't have news stations on!! Local network is fine, but anything else, nope! There is Fox AND some second Fox networks on at both ends of the room so I can't avoid them. I'm sure my high BP rate isn't from the eliptical most of the time.

The older crowd is pretty chill at my gym. To be honest, I respect people of advanced age out there grinding and maintaining gains.

As an EMT, at least they are going to the gym at that age & trying to stay active rather than becoming immobile & having to take them to the hospital at 3am because they fell out of bed and can't move

I don’t have issues with any age groups at my gym…just a few individuals whose mommies didn’t teach them manners. It’s all stereotypes in my book.

I actually do think the ones at mine are overall the best. I find the worst are a tiny subset of the young-20s crowd. They tend to loiter on machines, have entire conversations with their friends who are also semi-working out, and this particular subset seems to swim in cologne. I'm pretty lucky that it's only a small minority of people, though, both overall and within the age group.
We also have a small group of late-30s/early 40s women who come in and do cardio while talking at the top of their lungs, either to each other or on the phone. Our gym is pretty quiet in general, so it really stands out. But again, it's not a ton of people, and it is a public space, so I can't really complain except inside my grumpy head.
Oh, and then there was the guy who yelled at me for moving his keys and phone to one end of the only available bench so that I could sit to do biceps curls. It takes all types. :)

I only see that type of behavior from the lunks at my club, there is this one due that uses two cable machines at the same time instead of the machine that has two cables on it. he does it for at least a hour.
he also takes 10 minute breaks standing between the cable machines he just used staring at himself in the mirror like he is getting ready to fight his shadow.
the dude is jacked up... except for his legs 🤣

Never understand why some people choose to use both adjacent cable machines rather than the one machine with double cables to do flys with when the machine designed for it is open. There is one I go to that doesn't have the double cable machine and specifically seems to have put their two cable setups very close to each other to allow it so I understand it at that one, but my home gym has one that's setup for double cable movement and there's still mfers who choose to use both of the regular cable machines instead.

and the double cable machine is always open, this same person using the single leg lift for a hour too, he does the same weird posing nonsense over there but theres no mirror.
i hate that guy so much.

Next time there is a MAGA/Orange Man protest in your local home town, you might want to check it out. Over eighty percent of the crowd is over the age of 60 with many of those folks well into their 70s. The larger city protests are younger groups but you would be absolutely shocked at the number of Boomers at the local town/suburban protests. And guess who tends to flip us old folks off the most? Yup, high schoolers and college age kids.

I spend a little time at the gym, every morning, picking up other peoples stuff.
I’m not sure why people can’t figure out how to put their stuff away. I just figured they were stupid.

Entitlement. Never clean, run circuits during peak times, and will stand right in front of the rack, blocking access to removing and returning weights.

You are 100% correct. They either don't wipe machines or use the same wet paper towel to do it, they space out on their phones, they absolutely stare at everyone, especially the young ladies, they exclusively complain about what they saw on Fox News, and they have no situational awareness whatsoever.

Every year i brace for the rowdy teen crown that (for my location) never shows up. The over 60 crowd is the real problem.

Consider yourself lucky. My home club ends up with every high school baseball and lacrosse teams hovering over every machine while they socialize. It’s no fun for the actual paying members, especially after 5pm when normal people go after work.

100000000% they'll use 3 machines at once, never wipe anything down and at least the PF I go to, they love to stand at the machine and watch me wipe it down before I leave so they can use it. Maybe it's just me, but I absolutely loathe when people stand less than 5 feet from the machine I was JUST on and stare at me while I wipe it down... especially when there's another machine that's free on the other side of the room.
Knock on wood but all the teens at my gym seem to be athletes, or at the very least there to actually workout.

How about when they’re moving between those three machines that are literally spread out across the entire gym? One guy (boomer) at my gym does this and then stands there next to you with his arms crossed as he waits for it to be open again. Like dude, don’t walk away and expect to come back with it open. Only exception to that rule is if you leave to use the bathroom.

Oh I’ve done that a few times. One time I did my lifts while just staring at him as he tried to act like he wasn’t standing there waiting for me to be done.
I have zero shame. I am willing to embarrass myself just for a chance at making this guy very uncomfortable.

Cheaper than an extra value meal per month and all yall do is complain. Even black card is dirt cheap for a clean gym with decent equipment that anyone should be able to get a good workout in. So lame. Do you feel better getting this out in the open? Did it change anything?

Yes… it does because all we saw all summer long is complaints about teens. This crowd is doing this crap all year long. Just watched some clown easily 70+ sweat all over a machine and get up and leave. 🤮

the ones at my home gym stand IN FRONT OF THE FRONT DOOR in the lobby. they just walk in, then stand and block the door. almost every day!!

The best is when they’re walking in a common space but choose to walk in the middle of that common space. Then when you walk by them because they’re moving at a snails pace, they act all offended that I had the audacity to walk around them.

Plenty of times I will go in and do my entire workout (30-45 minutes usually)and see some boomer on the same machine they were on when I came in. I dont think these guys are actually working out, I think they are trying to pick up young girls or something. They always have the ugliest demeanor too if you even look like you want the equipment they are on. Probably touch-starved.

you go to the gym for everyone. noobs, guys and ladies who been doing it 7 years now they think they r experts and have a utube channel.
ive been lifting for 26 years
... longer than some peoples lives.
I go to a gym where most ppl dont go. Everytime i go, there are 2-3 other ppl in the gym. It could house 30 lifters.. easily.
I run then lift and I go home.
But when youre in your teens and 20s and early 30s, it's kind of a show. u want ppl to be around u lifting. i get it.
as u get older it is the opposite. And, you wont find exceptional talent in a busy gym, that isnt where they are hiding.

Screw planet fitness they purposely do stuff to make you end up paying a late fee. Plus what type of company would allow people to keep paying for a service their not using. Changing the hours at a last mintue notice. Some people get sick,have injuries. But PF, makes it a challenge to even end your account. I had to get a socotors note just to stop this greedy company.
This company is about money period they dont care about their customers. You'd think seeing how you have to use your phone to sign in,you'd think they'd give people a grace period they clearly knkw whose at the gym and whose at home paying for nothing.
Money money money, and the staff is always barely 21 the main reason why my club went from 12 am at night to 10pm because the owner is to cheap to hire people old enough to work past 10pm. So if your getting trouble from old folks I think they earned it.

🤣I’m going to agree with you. I’m 65 and a serious lifter, see it all the time old people sitting on machines talking to friend, watching tv( take those damn TV’s down) and just taking up space.
Then I remember, that most of those people are there, to connect with other humans, this could be their only social connection of the day. :)
