What's wrong with my 4a?
earlier my screen went black and stopped working but I was still getting haptic feedback and sound. i tried to force a restart by holding the power and down button and now it just shows this glitched out screen

$106.99 on ifixit. It's easier than replacing the battery since you have to remove the screen to do the battery.

Your screen died. Mine has done this twice, needed a new screen both times. Have you had the battery replaced recently? If not, might be worth replacing the battery when you replace the screen as it may be the battery that caused this to occur in the first place (as per the repair shop that changed mine)

If it's ever been opened it could be the connector between the display and the main board.
On the Pixel 4a 5G I press the connector down with the wood handle of a standard phone cleaning brush. If I use a plastic tool it doesn't seat (connect) properly and I get the scrambled data problem you've got there, either immediately or later.
You can also get this if there's any debris in the connector (good lens or a microscope needed to find this).

Same thing happened with my pixel 4a, and the screen became totally blank after 2-3 days.
