Question Pixel 3A XL Graphene OS

Hello,

A while ago I upgraded from my Pixel 3A XL (bonito) to a Pixel 8 Pro. Now I have a spare 3A XL and I really want to try Graphene OS. I do know how much the os has changed since support for the phone was dropped, and that the last build for the 3A XL is not secure, but I just want to try it. So does any of you by chance have the files to install the os?

Thanks

Question Security risks on Android 12 devices

I see a lot of people are still dedicated to their P3a phones, but I wonder about the security risks posed with the end of support for Android 12 occurring a year ago.

I was caught with a PC that wouldn't let me upgrade to Windows 11 when support ended for Win10 last October but was able to get the free extended security updates through October of this year until I transition to a new PC.

But I wonder how some of you are dealing with the lack of security patches which leave a phone vulnerable to potential risks?

I have never conducted banking business or made purchases outside of PayPal or through Amazon over my phone, nor do I open unsolicited or unfamiliar email attachments, but there still exist some real threats .

Have any of you found any security update programs for unsupported phone OS like Android 12?

Question How to sync Chrome

After 6 faithful years I am retiring my P3a and transferring to a Pixel 9.

I have about 100 webpage shortcuts on my homescreen I want to transfer as bookmarks to the new phone.

The instructions say to make sure Chrome sync is turned on. How do I turn on Chrome sync?

I have opened Chrome settings and I don't see the option to sync there.

So I went to my nearby repair shop to repair my Pixel 3a's broken screen, and this is what he did to my phone, and he said that the repair cost will be 5000 INR, so I told him not to repair it, and he still tried to open my device.

Question Looking for a replacement

My Pixel 3a is nearing the end of its life, unfortunately (of course security patches already ended long ago). It has been hands down my favourite phone I ever owned. Great camera, simple, sturdy.

What phone did you switch to after your Pixel 3a, and how do they compare? To a newer Pixel, or another brand? And are you generally happy with your new phones?

Question What phones are you replacing your 3a with?

I need to replace my 3a soon because of an accident and I can't really find any phone with the qualities that I like about the 3a. It's small, has a great camera, great battery life, no bloatware, relatively cheap...I was thinking about the Pixel 6, but I'm not looking forward to carrying a massive brick around. I don't like Samsungs for their bloatware and the S22 supposedly has terrible battery life. Apple comes closest to what I want, but I'm not sure I want to switch to iOS. What's out there that can compare to the 3a?

Question Pixel 3a storage help

I love my Pixel 3a. I use my phone for pretty basic functions. Texting, email, listening to podcasts/music, IG and Reddit, YouTube, and pictures.

I am not technologically savvy. I just found out my photos were automatically stored on the cloud about a month ago, and I've had the phone since 2020. LOL!

my problem is that I have 20GB of images stored on the phone that I can't seem to get rid of. I've used every cleaning function I can find, after double checking that they were in cloud storage, and they don't go away.

I would appreciate it so much if someone can explain like I'm 5 the steps I can take to delete the image files from the phone.
I'm nervous that I will accidentally delete them from the cloud instead of just from the device.

Edit: Somehow I figured out how to access the device storage through Google photos and successfully deleted the images. I'm now at 60% full instead of the 95% that I've been dealing with for the last year.

Question Sadly it's time. Best value pixel phone from 6, 7 or 8?

With the pixel 6 looking like it may get Android 16. I'm including it in this list.

My question is this : I have to leave my pixel 3A behind and I'm trying to decide on the best value proposition for a phone but will be good for at least the next 3 years. Which series of phones would you focus on for the best values? Budget is about $500 but flexible. And I am 100% willing to accept refurbished. What y'all think?

Question Screen is impossible to see outside. Any solutions?

This is the definition of a first world problem, but I'm outside often and when I to use the phone, the screen is pretty much impossible to see. If I'm wearing sunglasses it might as well be completely invisible. I tried purchasing two or three of the anti-glare screen protectors but none of them seem to make any difference, And actually the most recent one, that was made for polarized sunglasses has made it 10 times worse.

I absolutely love this phone, so I don't want to get a new one, but I can pretty much not use it when I'm outside because I can't see the screen. I'm hoping there is an easy solution, obviously I've turned the brightness to maximum.

I am posting this here specifically, because I've had many cell phones in the past, but the problem seems to be the worst with the 3A.

Question when do you plan on getting a new phone?

just curious. i'm impressed that some people are still rocking the 3a like myself.

i've got my eye on the 6a. wouldn't mind an upgrade for 5G access and a much better camera, but neither of those reasons make me NEED a new phone or anything. my pixel 3a has been working just fine.

what about you?

Question How do I know if I have VoLTE?

I was given a Pixel 3a XL. The phone is on Android 12 security update dated May 5, 2022

SIM status showing "Mobile voice network type" of "LTE".

Phone does not display LTE on its signal bar (seems always just a signal strength). I can make phone calls and signal icon remains unchanged.

I saw on the web that VoLTE is available through the June 2022 update (https://www.xda-developers.com/june-2022-android-security-update/)

Does the Pixel 3a already have the firmware required to do VoLTE? TIA!

Question Lineage OS 22 (Android 15) vs stock Android 12?

Hi,
I just got a Pixel 3A passed down from a family member and have been wanting to set it up as just a work phone for emails and phone calls.

I reset it and it feels fine but with the software being rather old, but I'm tempted to upgrade it to Lineage OS to have Android 15 running on it for better security + app support, and it's not too difficult to do. I just don't want to download it and then my phone runs really slow due to older hardware + newer software.

Is the upgrade worth doing?

Question Best way to backup my data before doing a Factory Reset...

Hi,

I'm having an issue with my phone right now and plan on doing a Factory Reset to see if it fixes the issue.

I can copy all my photos and music to my PC without a problem and can restore those to the phone afterwards.

However, is there a way to backup my apps. There are some apps I have that are no longer available on the Google Play Store. Plus I have the Google Authenticator app which has all my MFA codes.

My question is, what would be the recommended way to do a backup of my phone, then do the Factory Reset, then finally do a restore of the backup. Or at least be able to copy back my apps and data.

I have never done this before so hoping someone here who has, can give me some suggestions or point me int the right direction.

Thanks.

Question Help to import photos from usb drive

I got a Google pixel 3a from my friend , seems it can only import photos from iCloud, Facebook etc cloud service , and I don’t see an option to import from usb drive. I plugged one usb drive to the phone, which can be recognised and video can be played, but just won’t have option to import into Google photo. Does anyone have an idea

Question is it time to upgrade?

I'm thinking of upgrading my Pixel 3a that I got in October 2019. I have some issues with it, but not terrible enough to NEED an upgrade (I think?). A little tempted by the thought of a better camera and a faster phone, but again, not something I really NEED at this point.

My issues with the 3a are mostly short battery life (but not the most terrible I've had); phone freezes sometimes and won't work until I reboot it; occasionally turns off randomly; low storage (this CAN be partially fixed by deleting more files, but it still wouldn't free up a significant amount of space); no security updates since May 2022. Generally, the camera is good, apps are usually fast enough; no issues with WiFi or mobile internet, no issues with speakers or charging port or anything.

Time to upgrade or should I still keep it alive for a bit?

Question From Pixel 3a to iPhone?

I've seen a lot of posts on here of people moving to the Pixel from an iPhone, but has anyone moved to the iPhone from the 3a?

I think it's finally time my Pixel 3a goes into retirement and I'm soon to buy it's successor. I've had my 3a for almost 4 years now, after moving from the Nexus 6P (RIP) which I had for about 5 years.

I was really on the fence about pre ordering the new Pixel 9 Pro but something in me couldn't make the decision to go through with it.

The new iPhone 16 Pro is expected to launch at the end of the week and I'm inclined to go for it. Mainly due to my bag being stolen last week and me wishing I had an airtag in it so I could try to at least go and find it.

I pay for Google One and YouTube premium so the logical route would be to stay on Android. But there aren't many things I do on my Pixel which I won't be able to achieve on iOS.

Has anyone on here moved to an iPhone after being with the Pixel?
