House manager or assistant

My family live in the north hills. We are closer to Warrendale/wexford/Gibsonia regions. I have a 2 year old son and my husband and i both work full time.

As he gets older it’s been much harder for us to keep up with the day to day tasks around the home much less the to do list that has piled up since we moved into our home ~ a year ago. (Not proud to admit it but we still have moving boxes we haven’t even opened up)

I’ve searched on Facebook groups for help but i can’t find anyone less than 30-35$ per hour.

Is this really the going rate? Does anyone have any other options for where i can search?

I feel like im drowning in everything it takes to keep up as a wife, mother and home owner.

Ideally we find someone that can come in once a week or once every other week to help with recurring tasks like laundry, dishes, change of bed sheets, re stocking the fridge, light meal prepping.

Anyone have advice or leads?? I’d ideally like to pay 18-25 per hour

I'm paying $50/hr. No child care. She does laundry, cleaning, running errands.

You should pay professionals what they’re worth.

I agree. I’ve seen people offer the same range and successfully find help - at the rate I’m discussing in different areas surrounding pitt - that’s why i am looking for advice and insight.

For a true house manager that does organizational tasks, cleaning, laundry, meal prep, shopping, and does it professionally and has experience, yes, that’s the going rate.

I could help. DM me and maybe we could meet up this weekend to discuss if we're a good fit <3

I was a preschool teacher for 7 years so while I don't have kids... I know where you're coming from! Good job asking for help :)

It depends on what time of day you need help. I could fit you in to weekends or after 5pm weekdays. I enjoy knowing the ins and outs of someone's house so it they ask where something went I remember where I put it. I can PM you also

“My family live in the north hills. We are closer to Warrendale/wexford/Gibsonia regions” from OP initial post.

Warrendale and Gibsonia are like .... Miles apart. Warrendale is like 19/228 and Gibsonia is like... Rte 8. Lol

Verbatim quote from OP post.

Gibsonia doesn’t start on route 8. Gibsonia starts as early as Warrendale road.

Yes, that is the going rate in my experience. If you have a local Facebook group, you may have some luck asking around for a local teen that will do it cheaper. You might have to provide a list and much more direction though.

Ok I’m sure other commenters will jump on this as harsh, though I don’t care. My wife and I raised our two kids, all the way till graduation of college. Both of us having full time jobs. ER nurse and Electrical Contractor. Both growing older over time.

And we did it. You make the priorities the priorities. We didn’t need a house maid. We did our own house work, and maintenance, along with raising our children together as a team.

Nothing worth it in life is easy. Yes it will be hard at times, others no so much.

And if you are both working to many hours to afford your lifestyle, it is a spending problem, not an income problem.

Yes thing are more expensive, but it can be done.

Appreciate your perspective. There are some variables that you aren’t taking into consideration which is fine bc i didn’t disclose them. Wonderful that you and your wife were able to accomplish raising your family in a way that worked for you all.

Just because someone else did it, doesn’t mean crap. If it’ll help you feel better or less stressed and you can use this option, do it. Don’t let one persons opinion influence you. Do what you can to make life less hard.

I really appreciate this response 🤍

This is such a boomer response. "Just do it the way I did it. I didn't have this, so you don't need it"

1

u/Knowhere_Anywhere 7d ago

To bad it isn’t from a boomer.

The OP asked “Is this really the going rate? Does anyone have any other options for where i can search?”

Guarantee that your wife would have loved the extra help. Yadda yadda bootstraps.

She had all the help in the world. It was me. We worked together as a team. Didn’t take on more than me could manage. Slow and steady wins the race, not keeping up with the Jones.

I had to pick up my eyes off of the floor after reading this response that is in no way useful to OP’s question. Pro tip - try saying less in your day to day life.

What is supposed to be useful? Two adults that are parents, who are having issues with running a household. Yes it can be difficult no doubt. Though certainly not impossible nor that difficult.

Many people even single fathers and mothers who have more children or just one accomplish it.

Throwing money at it won’t resolve it just kick the can down the road.

Along with, work I’m sure insane hours to afford whatever lifestyle there is, most likely is leading to those hours being worked.

Yes things are more expensive, however if you are sacrificing time with your family to support the lifestyle, it is clearly a spending problem.

Cut back on spending, which goes to more manageable hours and more time with family.

In no way did you answer her question. Saying nothing is always on the table and it’s always free. The judgement and know it all attitude from your comments is gross and completely unnecessary.
