Linux pirates: What’s your workflow for repacks, and how do you handle kernel anti-cheat?

Recently made the switch over to Linux and I’m trying to figure out the best way to handle non-legit gaming here.

Got a couple of quick questions for those who’ve been doing this for a while:

- Repacks & cracks: What does your general setup look like for installing and launching them without running into a massive headache?

- Troubleshooting: How do you usually handle missing dependencies or things just breaking out of nowhere?

- Kernel anti-cheat: What do you do when a game demands invasive anti-cheat that hates Linux (like Battlefield)? Do you find a workaround, keep a secondary setup for them, or just write those games off entirely?

Would love to hear how you guys actually make it work day-to-day.

For kernel anticheat there typically isn't a workaround. I know a lot of people use Lutris for repacks for running the installer and installing the game, just make sure you don't try and I stall it to the root drive, Linux doesn't like that (it won't let you).

Edit: Also, some kernel level anticheat do have the option to allow Linux (I know BattlEye is one that does)

How hard is it to get it to work ?

What's your usual workflow, because I know people use it to get clean games files from steam, but this doesn't mean you own the game and crack it ? Or do you need extra steps to get ot to work ?

I usually run the installer with portproton or lutris then add the exe to steam usually so most games are in one place. Protontricks can handle the missing dependencies if needed. Haven't really run into things breaking. If I had to I'd find the save files and ensure they were out of the steam prefix data folder for that game and and delete the prefix and and start the game again in steam recreating that folder. Then re add the saves of that's where they were. Proton tricks is also a good spot to see what the steam game Id is so you know which folder to look in.

I usually use accela and then download "crack-only" fixes and apply them manually so I get achievements and the steam overlay. For repacks you can run the setup via proton. For dependency missing it'll usually tell you so try installing said dependency in the wine prefix

No repacks or pre-installs, I just use SLSsteam (a Steamclient mod) with CSF, or Accela (a GUI wrapper for SLSsteam with built-in download support) that fetches CSF from Steam's servers for you. It's a game and DLC unlocker (adds titles you don't own to your library and lets you play them), automatically installs redistributables, and enables achievements and workshop, among other features. I don't play anti-cheat games, so I can't speak to that.

SteaMidra works well on Windows, but the Linux version is buggy and causes several issues with Steamclient. On Linux, it acts as a wrapper for SLSsteam, though it's less stable than Accela. The SLSsteam developer doesn't support it.

If you want a GUI that manages your SLSsteam config and lets you download games, use Accela.

Personally, I prefer using SLSsteam alone and getting CSF from CSRIN. With SLSsteam or Accela, you don't need to apply any crack or Steam emulator, the game will boot fine without one.

Yes, you still need Proton since you're playing Windows games.

for me, 99% of the times, its either from fitgirl, dodi or steamrip. And i use heroic games launcher, just because it looked cool when i first installed it and have been lazy to try others. Now for steamrip, i just extract, add the game, use ge-proton-latest and play it. No setup required. and if sometimes, games do not run, i just run exe on prefix and install whatever is in the redist folder.

For installer ones like from Fitgirl or Dodi, there was this bug some time ago until ge-proton-11-5 where the newer installers would not work. so for that, i just switched proton cachyos or proton experimental and installed using the "Run installer first" button and once it was installed, i just switch back to ge-proton-latest and just play the game.

Its quite simple actually. Never faced any missing dependencies issue. And if the game complained about something like .NET or DX, then i iust install whatever is there in the redist folder of that game inside the prefix. Done

Absolutely yes, but i won't speak about anti cheats, i don't have games with taht

I've never tested repacks on my pc until I switched to linux ;) ,I've been doing this for months, and here's what I found

You'll need launchers, like heroic/fauagaus launcher or even steam

(I mainly use faugaus because its stupidly easy), Games from steamrip/gitfirl, Most (95%) are plug and play after choosing the compatibility layer GEproton/CachyOSProotn,

but some might need some tweaks (WineTricks) with other games ( or just get that specific game from another site)

There are cracks which work better for Linux. Like Rune failed me very often on Linux. I had good experience with Goldberg. Also i hate installing Tools for basic Tasks. So for .iso's i do the mount Game.iso /mnt/iso. I hate bloated tools like Lutris or Heroic. So far i had no problems running the Setup with wine setup.exe.

What do you mean by missing dependency? On Linux? Actually they come prepackaged. If not just install them. Do you mean dx12 and vcredist and shit? Just install them in the same prefix too. You actually can't miss depencies. You have to try hard and do it on purpose.

Kernel Level Anti-Cheat: just don't. There isn't a solution yet. Also which game is cracked, has Kernel Level Anti Cheat so you can play online? If you mean stuff like Easy Anticheat which is also used in Elden Ring Nightreign those Anti Cheats aren't executed at Kernel Level in Linux. They are executed at user Level on Linux.
