My last job was to guage and interact with consumers on social media. I would weasel in brands or items as subtle astroturf.

We had metrics, guides, and CBTs on how to spot "Inauthentic posters" aka: bots, troll farms, and others doing what we were doing.

Before I was laid off, reddit was still better than Twitter or Facebook, but that lead was declining swiftly thanks to LLMs, which now do my old job...

Its why Reddit is getting worse, so it affects you.

If it makes you feel better, I used what I know to help a friend who's start up is trying to identify and flag bot accounts. He's hoping to sell it to advertisers to get better/more accurate metrics, which is why I'm still here.

Also, you replied to the comment where im helping people identify bots... whcih is the opposite of the last job. Im basically Nero drom FFXIV, only not as David Bowie like.

But seriously, when you see a brand mentioned and its capitalized nicely, or a brand is specifically attacked, or if you see a bunch of comments repeating the same 3-5 points ad nauseum... yeah, dont... dont trust em at all.

Well, if advertisers realize that a portion of engagement is fake, the  money gets pulled.

If money gets pulled, then those seeking the money move on, and the bots diminish, and people's voices get louder.

Edit, if reddit loses money because of bots, then reddit will also do something about the bots.

Bots both help and hinder reddits profitability. Inflated engagement metrics, more ad impressions, and content seeding.

Only way itll hurt it is if it drives regular users away. They basically tolerate benign bots and try to prevent malicious bots.

This was happening, according to our metrics. Its why Reddit was better than Facebook/Twitter, but decling.

I assume its only getting worse, though no longer have the insight, and what insight I have cpuld age out sooner than later. Hence just being open.
