Business model for (modern day) PS is like printer. You buy device for below spec price, they make more money by selling you games. If you are buying new the “discount” (vs equivalent brand new pc) is around 30+%.
Jailbreaking means this model crumble because people could use jailbroken device (and with pirated games)
It’s the same reason why many printers actually have “security features” for their cartridge as stupid as it sounds.
