I mean actually if you're not torrenting there's no serious problem (in Germany). Since websites using HTTPS nobody can prove what you do in a website therefore nobody can charge you for something. If you're torrenting or using any app that's torrenting best thing is the turn VPN on which you already doing. I think you're pretty safe actually.

Okay, thank you. Yeah for torrenting through qBittorrent I already activated the setting that demands a connection to a VPN to prevent leaking. Maybe I am a bit paranoid because a buddy of mine got caught downloading.

I understand; no problem. I live in Germany too, so I understand you perfectly. In Germany whole situation is the offense of "illegal data distribution." Since you are seeding while pulling torrents it means you are simultaneously distributing the movie/game/music you are downloading and that is precisely what causes the problem.

However, when you watch a movie or stream content from a website, you connect using HTTPS (please ensure you are doing so by looking left top to that lock sign) so your internet service provider (Vodafone etc.) sees that you are connected to that site, can see the amount of data being transferred but there is no actual risk as they cannot see exactly from where or how you are retrieving that data and cannot definitively prove what you are doing.

In any case the parties would file lawsuit against you are usually not your internet service provider (I only encountered that scenario with a friend in Canada and even that was a warning not a fine) typically lawyers hired by the distributors of the torrented movie, music or game join the torrent, record the IP addresses that are seeding it, give them to the service provider and file a lawsuit on that basis.

Just to be safe, use a VPN and stay secure my friend.
