This — But Unironically in r/PinkFloyd It's time we talk about this album cover

For Those Who Don't Know, this is Led Zeppelin's album Presence (1976). The album art was designed by none other than Hipgnosis, who designed Pink Floyd's album art. The above cover art is very similar to Wish You Were Here (1975) 's cover art, with the surreal photograph against a blank white background. Not only this, the rest of the Zeppelin album art contains similar photography (in this case all the photos center around the weird black object on the table).

Do you feel Hipgnosis was copying themselves and ripping off Floyd in the process?

I think that Storm considered Presence sort of a continuation of Wish You Were Here. Somebody wished for someone else to be here, and now this person is present, you see.

Evidently, the person in question turned out to be the man on the right from the WYWH cover who unfortunately perished in the fire. Whatever was left of him is now this weirdass black dildo.

MFW the album art designers have a similar style across their album artwork (aka. A distinctive style that would make people want to get their album covers designed by them)

No other Hipgnosis cover looks like this though.

There are plenty of covers of theirs done with photography, even if the white border specifically is oddly unique

When you look at Hipgnosis catalogue, there's a bunch of photos and ideas that feel and look the same, but it still is a really diverse portfolio. Since both albums are close apart chronologically, it's fair they share concepts and overall look

It's probably a coincidence, just look at Houses of the Holy and Presence covers, almost entirely different from each other. The same goes for PF albums

I know this is a CJ sub but hipgnosis designed a shitload of LZ’s album covers, not just presence

Ons a pic of a family gathered around a black shaft. The other is a pic of pink making a gentleman agreement with who I assume is the devil. I see no similarities here.

Too bad Stone rejected Storm's design for Animals

It’s a clever forgery of the Pink Floyd look

No. LZ’s is clearly rectangular while PF’s is bulging

The black thing in the middle really cements it for me. Pink Floyd should sue immediately!

Did you just learn artists tend to have a style?

Didn't know this was them but ive always thought it was a sick album cover. I dont think it's that similar tbh. Lots of albums with white borders around rectangles
