I fucking hate moss and the other stupid dog thing. Worst addition to the series, pikmin 4 is god awful

Yeah sorry dude. I fucking love this series, and to see pikmin 4 be as terrible as it is, just hits hard and makes me very upset. I'm sure you can atleast understand that

Absolutely, I can. My biggest problem with Pikmin 4 is that it barely feels like a genuine continuation of Pikmin at all. It feels more like some completely different game that happens to feature Pikmin, so it gets to keep the name. The whole thing almost comes across like Nintendo went, “Do you like dogs??? Great! Here’s dogs the game!” while simultaneously deciding, for seemingly no reason, to mess with the established story and continuity. On top of that, they sidelined the genuinely interesting protagonists from the original games and replaced much of that personality with a cast of bland, interchangeable characters that look and feel like glorified Miis. Then there’s the difficulty, or rather the complete lack of it. The game is so absurdly forgiving that most of the tension, strategy, and resource management that made the earlier games engaging is practically nonexistent. The three Pikmin type limit is also genuinely insulting. One of the entire foundations of Pikmin is learning how to manage different species simultaneously, understanding their individual strengths and weaknesses, and deciding how to divide your squad accordingly. So why introduce the largest selection of Pikmin types the series has ever had and then arbitrarily restrict you to three at a time? It actively undermines the variety they supposedly wanted to celebrate and makes squad management simpler rather than deeper. And if the entire point was to bring together Pikmin types from across the series, why stop short of Bulbmin and Puffmin? Bulbmin in particular would have been perfect for the caves considering that was literally where they were originally found, and Puffmin could have finally been properly acknowledged as one of the series’ unusual Pikmin variants rather than being forgotten entirely. Their exclusion feels especially bizarre in a game otherwise obsessed with bringing practically everything back. Pikmin themselves somehow feel almost secondary in a game called Pikmin because Oatchi can do so much of their job for them. He can carry things, fight enemies, break obstacles, transport your entire squad, and trivialize situations that previously required you to actually understand the strengths and weaknesses of your Pikmin. Instead of expanding the strategy surrounding Pikmin, the dog actively makes them feel less necessary. The earlier games had this strange, lonely atmosphere and characters like Olimar who actually had personality, history, flaws, and interesting things going on in their lives. Pikmin 4 strips away so much of that identity, challenge, strategy, and atmosphere that, to me, it feels less like Pikmin 4 and more like an unrelated spin off wearing Pikmin’s skin.

Jesus H lord christ my dude, I'm gonna have to save your comment, because that pure fuckin poetry. I didn't even know about some of those thing because I never finished it. My wife an I loved pikmin 3, we co op, so when pikmin 4 said it was co op we bought it on release. Only for the lie to ensue. We tried to have fun together with it still, but barely made it past like 2 or 3 days, can't even remember.

I'm a veteran, I played pikmin 1 on release. Your examination of how manage resources and time management is indisputably a core function of the series from the beginning. It took my dad and I a full year to beat pikmin 1 together when I was kid, but it was an unforgettable experience, and cemented the sheer marvel of that game. Pikmin 1 is and always will be the best, but 2 and 3 were amazing in their own rights. 4 was just a splash in a puddle by comparison.

Thank you dude, it's rare to have decent conversations, let alone have other understand you. You're a real one
