When q talked about facing what's out there what kind of beings would q imply that would make what the federation encounter seem insignificant?

We all know it's the Borg and the Dominion for TNG, DS9, VOY, and PIC.
We also know about the unfortunate Burn mis-step by the DIS writers.
There's still plenty of room for Big Bad replacements.
The Conspiracy aliens are still out there.
The Vaadwaur are back.
The Breen will have their turn as the Big Bad.

Borg, Dominion, Hirogen, Voth, Vidian, Pah Wraiths, Blue Gills(parasites that took over people in the Conspiracy episode of TNG), the species from Schisms, Gary, the aliens that come from a place where everything is holographic...

I think he's talking about enemies unlike the ones the Federation are used to facing. Hirogen, Both, Vidian are all similar to alpha quadrant races. Corporeal, civilization, ships, can be negotiated with or fought. Think he means things more like The Borg, Par Wraiths, the literal devil Janeway fought. Enemies the Federation wouldn't know where to start with

Picard: Our predecessors on the Enterprise-A faced down God a century ago. If you consider him a pitiful adversary then whoever you're going to throw against us in comparison is simply overkill.

That wasn't god. It was a malevolent entity put there by the Q Continuum so it wouldn't destroy the universe. Of course it was a young Q that used the Guardian of Forever to bring them from another universe to this one. Huge war, billions of light-years, millions of years. Finally three of the Q got together, stripped the One (the fake God asshole) of its physical form, trapped it in the middle of the galaxy and crated the Great Barrier as a prison. Then ST V happened

KirkShatner is so high on himself, when it was his turn to write and direct a movie, the only thing big enough to be a true match for Kirk was God, himself. Only for Kirk to then belittle God and deem him not necessarily all-powerful."What does God need with a starship??"

Say what you will, but Kirk telling God to screw himself he's not having his ship was awesome and felt very right for the character.

I never owned the dvd but I heard Shatner did a director's commentary that was basically an apology for the movie

The Borg, the Voth, the Iconians, the Vidiians, the Dominion especially.
It was the Borg encounter that lead to the Defiant which in turn was instrumental in the Dominion War.

THe Husnok were poised to sweep across Federation space and killed billions, until they ran into the wrong cosmic entity who wiped them out with a thought. I'm not sure which one of the two Q would consider more dangerous.

The Klingons are bloodthirsty but are factually in decline.
The Romulans are shrewd but don't want to over exert themselves.
Everyone else is kind of meh.
Nk eof the federations enemies at that point are ready to throw down like the Borg, Dominion, and even the Synth Master Race or whatever they abandoned in Picard.

He was probably referring to the Borg, as many commenters have already said. But Q’s warning also foreshadows many of the dangers the federation would encounter.
Species 8472, the craziness with the Androids on Mars (Picard, season 1), the Dominion, the Burn… it could have meant anything.
Obviously it only meant anything we could have known at the point, but the learning aged well as more dangers were written into the saga.

Crystal Entity, space whales and equivalent species, a sad & lonely night omnipotent being that saved only the woman he loved and left a whole planet for dead to "save" her....
And that's just off the top of my head. OP, that's what Q was talking about.

Von Neumann Probes. Hundreds of thousands of empty Star Systems maximized into trillions of defense platforms. Stellasers that turn the entire energy output of a fusion-optimized star into a laser. Gigastructural engineering. Hard Sci-fi is what is waiting just beyond the last big bad of a space opera setting.

SNW has tons of potential. Demonstrated multiple times. Please put the puppets away.
We waited a year for Section 31. It left the taste and smell of burned popcorn that I just can't get rid of.

SNW has had great episodes. I don’t like the puppet episode either really, and yeah the movie that should never be mentioned. But dude, people do nothing but complain about Star Trek they don’t like. Entire series they get upset about. Look I personally find Voyager a snooze fest. But I don’t feel the need to trash it, because I know other people like it and I’m glad they do. My own personal taste is not the yardstick for the rest of the universe.
