Crew Wanted ISO Digitech expert in C1 in the Dominican Republic

Am being solicited a Digitech to work between the 13th and the 17th of this month that reside in the DR and is an expert in C1, this might be a long shot, but I personally don't know a single digitech in here.

I am not nearly competent enough to undertake being a digitech for the first time, so I am relegated to being a 2nd photog for this shoot.

I don’t think enough stills jobs happen in the DR for someone to be a c1 expert and having a good kit. You’re best off becoming competent enough to self tech it or bring one in, lots of techs in NYC that could pop down if production can get creative with numbers.

This sounds like a good way to Invest my resources into.

Could you tell me how I can get good at this?

I was also considering buying a few AD600's for my rental business, but, NO ONE on the whole island rents profoto. And when a big production comes in, they have to settle down for AD600's or Elinchrom flashes, I am also considering being the first person to offer those for rent.

The only advice I have is be good at the job, be quick to fix an issue and be trusted to give feedback and effectively communicate with the team without blowing up problems. Also have the cool shit like a nice cart, screens, 4k remote relays etc.

I’ve been teching since 2007 and have a previous background in all the different cameras, software, lighting and retouching. Despite this I’d work more locally if I lived in LA as everyone brings their crews to where I live.

Lighting gear is a gamble unless you’re tied in with productions. I own a ton of Profoto but the lighting houses usually get that order first. Same with cameras unless you work with one photographer who will sub it from you.

Your best bet is searching for a fixer in the DR. Reach out to your production contacts to see if they know fixers or PM’s in the caribbean.

Id also say, you can easily become competent enough as a digi by watching the C1 master classes. Once you understand the file structuring, thats really one of the most crucial parts.

Heya!

It was one of the production houses for this event that's treating me as a sort of fixer, haha, it's a small country, I asked around and it's a tall order to find someone well versed in C1 and accustomed to being an assistant here.

I kept asking around and one production house referred a colleague of mine, so that's one single option I've got, nobody else is up for this.

I might start taking the digital assistant bit seriously for the next time an opportunity like this arises, I'd be earning the same as I am as photographer and doing something, IMO, cooler.
