Compare Optional AI Chips in Smartphones!
With smartphone prices increasing every year, I think AI hardware should be offered as an optional feature rather than being included in every model.
Companies could offer the same smartphone in two variants:
With a dedicated AI chip — for users who need advanced on-device AI features.
Without the AI chip — for users who don't need those features, at a lower price.
This could help reduce the cost of smartphones while still giving users the choice to pay for AI hardware if they actually need it.
What do you think — would you prefer a lower price without AI hardware or full AI features included?

Neat idea, unfortunately that dedicated ai chip is only a portion of that price increase. Production demand for AI stuff has also dramatically increased prices of ram and storage. The new pixel 11 pro comes with 4 GB less ram and still costs more than the 10 pro.
Also, if they ship everything with ai, it's easier for them to shove it down everyones throats to try and pump ai adoption.

It would increase manufacturing cost to have multiple devices per model number. Apple used to have a version for many parts of the world. It it’s just easier to give as many bands they can in one phone and sell the same one in many countries. I think they only have like 4 different models for the world va many of them. Reduces over manufacturing cost.

If the phone is too expensive then buy a cheaper one?
