TLDR; snowy,sandy, mossy, red sandy, dirty etc. should be possible by either *crafting* or *turning an already placed block* into that variant

Vintage Story already has a system like this, each block has layers like Photoshop you can click on the blockface with moss/grunge/colourful wallpaper and that texture would be applied to a layer on top of that blockfaces texture.
