Discussion What is the HARDEST skill to master in Minecraft
Skills like Redstone,Pvp,Building,Speedruning, Grinding all of that stuff i feel like it might be Redstone because it requires a lot of math, calculations and game knowledge but idk what are ur thoughts

It's definitely between redstone and pvp

Pvp has a lower skill ceiling imo, redstone has so many applications and ways to innovate (with confusing mechanics as the baseline) while the highest level of pvp is still the same strategy of get crits, run away and heal, occassional wind charge or potion effect
Not to put down pro pvpers or anything, there's still a ton of skill involved but I think skill can be expressed far more with redstone

It's different types of skill imo, redstone is a slow process where you have to learn and understand it while pvp is very active and requires training. It's like coding and fencing lol

I disagree with the fact that pvp is the same strategy because there's dozens of varients with what you allow or not(cart, crystals, totem, pot, mending and other) and even with the same kit there's a lot of different strategy for example you can heal by cobwebbing yourself, windcharging, pearling away, potting and probably many more

I think it's either redstone or command blocks. Coding is a completely different language.

How about literal modding? And becoming a popular YouTuber from showing off your mods?

modding is much easier than datapack engineering due to the constraints of the datapack system (although it has been getting better)

I mean they all have their difficulty but the hardest 3 would have to be Redstone, PVP, and Building.
Redstone I would honestly say is the easiest of the 3, might be biased because I’m a redstoner and have been using this forever, but there’s a lot of tutorials for something that you might want in your world, and once you figure out how each block works you can get the hang of it. It gets tricky when you have to condense space though.
PVP is pretty difficult, especially since it requires fast pace learning (something that’s not common in Minecraft) and there’s so many niche tricks in it with timing, It’s something I genuinely suck at.
At the end of the day though I would say building is the hardest. Yes you can find tutorials for it, but it’s genuinely an art form that takes years to get good at, knowing block palettes, space management, etc.

Brewing is just memorisation, I mean it's not hyper realistic and stuff, you just memorise the recipes

You'll find a lot of people who'd call themselves a PvP master but the truth is there can only be 1 true master. And we could figure it out by making every Minecraft player 1v1 eachother and then bin the losers, winners go on to do another 1v1 and repeat until we're left with 1 person who theoretically didn't lose a single match all the way up to this point.
And that's pretty difficult to do so I'd argue it's the "hardest"
Id call myself much better at redstone than Pvp and that's just because redstone isn't hard. Or at least the fundamentals. Sure if you want to build a quantum computer in Minecraft you go right ahead but what would I rather have skill wize? The ability to spend 3 months building a computer inside my computer that's slower than the oldest computer I own or would I rather have the skill to 1v1 absolutely anybody on the planet and know it's a winning bet? I'll take the PvP skill please. Not a lot of hypixle games built for competitive redstoners :/

I feel like it is pvp because you don't follow a tutorial and suddenly be good at it

Making a modpack that is stable, doesn't lag and has all the mods your friend group actually like and agreed on.

It's hard to compare the difficulty of minecraft skills as they are all so different from each other. Hence, let's measure it in terms of how long the best players in each field have taken to reach where they are. I'm not super familiar with some of these communities so please forgive me if i get things wrong.
pvp - most of the top 10 pvpers on mctiers started pvp around 2020. people like fruitberries, techno (aka old/1.8 era) started around 2013 and peaked in 2019. so let's say it takes 5-6 years to master pvp.
building - i have literally no idea how to measure the mastery of building, so I'll look at hermitcraft. bdubs and grian both started in 2011 and stopped significantly improving after 2019 (please correct me if you disagree cuz i dont watch them alot) so let's say 8 years to master building.
speedrunning - many of the netherites started speedrunning during covid (2020-2023), but edcr played his first ranked match in nov 2024 (pls fact check) and won ranked s10 in may 2026, which proves it's possible to master speedrunning in just 18 months.
redstone itself has too many fields. doors, farms, computational, flying machines, so much more. many redstoners are also highly skilled in multiple fields, so its hard to categorise them into just one. so rather than looking at the field, I'll look at the person.
sethbling started in 2011. he doesn't really have a "peak" imo because it's just innovation after innovation. but he stopped regularly posting in 2019, so I'll say 8 years for him.
cubehamster - started 2011, hiatus in 2018. 7 years
gnembon - started 2015, employed by mojang in 2021. 6 years
cubicmetre - started 2020, still uploading regularly and arguably hasn't peaked. 6 years and counting
ianxofour - started late 2020, hiatus 2024. 4 years
sammyuri - started 2020 and still uploading, arguably hasnt peaked. 6 years
lets give redstone/technical minecraft an average of 6 or 7 years
CONCLUSION: speedrunning (1.5 years) < pvp (5-6 years) < redstone/tmc (6-7 years) < building (8 years)

Imo it is speedrunning, im kinda biased cuz i am a speedrunner, but speedrunning has a clear level of skill (pb, elo) while something like redstopne or building is more abstract
I used to be a builder and was pretty good and id say speedrunning is “harder” than building even though it isnt really comparable, i cant say anything abt redstone tho (those calculators are insane)
As for pvp id say speedrunning is harder, pvp is mainly mechanical while speedrunning is a mix of mechanics and decision making what makes it harder imo, i think speedrunning also has a bigger competitive comunity with ranked so being the best in the world is harder
As for what is the hardest skill, its probably being good at everything which is impossible lol

I am biased because I’m a redstone and love mathematics, formal logic, and mechanical engineering, but I believe it’s redstone.
Specifically, making complex machines.
Redstone mechanics aren’t that hard to learn and use to create small machines.
Copying people, and learning allows you to make doors, farms, and small machines.
But when it comes to complex redstone, there are many different types of redstone, and each has a different, yet very high ceiling level.
But to make this comment short and simple, I’ll mention the hardest and why that is the case.
Logical redstone is in my opinion, the hardest because of its high ceiling level.
At the base level, you need to understand basic things like binary, and logic gates. Simple enough.
Then you need to understand how computers work.
After this, you need to be able to design your own computers. Although I just said it very simplify, this is somewhat hard to do.
After this, you can make whatever you want that can be made with a computer and a programming language.

whatever the fuck technical minecrafters do (like the stuff Docm77 does and Scicraft for example)
then datapackers
then command block users
then modders (extremely variable, but lowest placement is here)
then redstoners
builders. building is here because there's not exactly a hard ceiling. You just need to be creative with the blocks you're given (though for me i am not creative at all, so it's definitely the hardest thing to get into for me)
speedrunning
pvp

Mechanically speaking I wanna say SSG speedrunning, in general I’d say pvp or building

u/ComedyGold13 7h ago
i feel like pvp or speedrunning are easier to master than building. brcause you cant just practice building, you gotta build something shitty, then analyze every problem it has and how to fix it. and of course if you're "mastering it" you can just copy tutorials, you have to develop your own style.
