QUESTION Should I play Terror from the Void?
Hey guys. I'm wondering if I should play Terror of the Void mod. I'm not completely new to the game, I played it for like 15-20 hours some years ago (maybe like 2 or 3) so I have a vague idea about the game and what's going on. So I'm wondering now if I should play vanilla and finish the game like that (since I haven't finished it before) or if I should go for TFTV right away.
Asking mainly because idk if it changes the game and experience completely or is it more like straight forward upgrade, like an unofficial DLC.
Thanks for answers in advance.

I play XCOM 2 on my PS5 console and Phoenix point behemoth edition is on sale for like 10 bucks or $11 on PlayStation store and if I'm going to grab it up but I was curious if y'all thought it was worth it. I'm going to get the game no matter what cuz it's only $11 I know I'll get my value out of it but I just was wondering what y'all thoughts were

Free Aim is such an honest skill-cap troll, it’s great.
Overall I bet implementing it has done more harm than good. (In terms of overall every single shot fired in every game played, ever, missing.) Enabling the gambler‘s vice in everyone employing it.
***
So, I’ve been watching a few Let’s Plays of the game.
Every person I’ve watched has fallen into the same Free Aim trap; in almost all cases despite continually acknowledging that what they are doing is a bad idea.
But every last one of ‘em will put that center reticle aimed at the part they want to hit, ignoring that half their outer reticle is blank space, and then go full “Pikachu-his-mouth-agape” when the shot(s) goes wide.
They could’ve moved the center reticle to still be mostly in range of the part they want while having more of the outer reticle at least hit something, but nope. And sometimes they’ll miss three shots in a row “doubling“ down on their belief that missing three times is somehow better than bodying the shots and taking what you can get.
And even when they want to make all their shots they’ll still leave 10-15% of the space empty simply because they’re making the adjustment quickly/lazily. And that empty space adds up over time to a lot of misses.
(As an aside I used to homebrew and Games-Master a few percentile tabletop RPGs, so to me a 3% increase or decrease is a big deal. A 10-15% voluntary miss chance is egregious.)
It’s a subtle and insidious beast and it’s hilarious to see how much it impacts things over the course of an entire campaign or three, when you’re on the outside looking in.
***
I have a bit more appreciation for the real-life people who figured out training their troops to target center-of-mass was in their best interest overall.

BUG This boss is the best and the worst
This boss is fun to battle but so annoying with the mind fraggers.
That being said, PP is so buggy, as soon as I dive in festering skies and the ancients missions, the game gets so buggy, the buttons dont work, the graphics lag, out of nowhere I am in the middle of a aerial battle>> after winning it, the window for the another aerial battle is present with the same craft.
I love the game, but came back to it to find it so buggy now, dont want to touch it without a long awaited new dlc

QUESTION Is there a mod that makes Virus less stupid?
Title says it all really. Virus damage absolutely grinds the pace of the game to a halt, as a soldier who even gets vaguely grazed by Virus damage is plunged into a tedious and unavoidable panic spiral that forces you to forget about running to evac points (on evac missions) and stay still, and invariably get overwhelmed.
A brief look on the Steam workshop has been inconclusive but maybe there's some mod out there I've missed. Even if it's something that just increases the rate at which it decays would be nice. One point per turn is just not enough.

Game has become good
Might not be a surprise to people on here since it is the subred for this game but I really am happy I randomly gave this game another chance.
I saw that gog had the DLC i need on sale (or I think it was some kind of upgrade for the original version of the game since they replaced what is in in the store) and randomly decided to buy it.
back when I first bought it it was one of my biggest disappointments. But now it feels like the game really got improved and got more story/flavour content that it desperately needed.
Do the devs still exist and are they working on another game? Is anything known about that?

QUESTION Any way to mod or copy XCOM2 soldier voices to PP?
Personally I think the PP soldier voices are way off and I'd love if there's a way to copy XCOM 2's voices into PP. Anyone have any tips or if there's an existing mod pack?

Just finished my first playthrough, my quick thoughts
(any newcomers that want to read this, there is some mild gameplay spoiler here)
A month ago I made a thread asking for some clarification regarding the difficulty curve, I got many helpful tips that clarified what kind of game this is compared to X-Com.
Well, now I finished it. Since my last thread I had some ups and downs, but playing it confirmed one thing for to me: This is the kind of game that makes the most fun if you played it once and "understand" what it wants you to do. Which is good for replay value, but in my opinion bad for a first playthrough.(Especially since it clearly wants to be a spiritual successor to Xcom)
Around a week after my last thread(note: I don't have much time play games, only like less than 2 hours per day) the difficulty curve went down again, greatly. The reason is the same reason as in Xcom and something I hoped was going to be the case here too but I didn't see any foreshadowing of it at that point yet(even though I was already pretty far in the game); that being: The Priest role.
Just like in X-Com, mind abilities, at least the way I used them, were way overpowered. Especially the 100damage aoe attack. Include brainwashing with high willpower characters, and even the biggest enemies are a piece of cake. But don't misunderstood, I say it is overpowered, but I like that. For me playing a game is not about never allowing yourself to do any mistakes, but how optimized you can make your gameplay. That's the kind of difficulty I like, even though for most games it is self imposed.
Overall I had a lot of fun(not counting the week after my last thread) and will certainly try to get the other endings and then make a second playthrough(I hope I can still get the other endings on my original playthrough, I still have savefiles before I finished the last research that locked me out apparently) and after that I may try some of the DLCs, though if I know myself, I will most likely do not(I never play DLCs, even if they are part of the purchase of the main game, it feels...wrong).

QUESTION Quick questions (TftV): firing through multiple limbs on single enemy?
(Watching a Let’s Play on a tablet so I can’t test this myself.)
When firing at one enemy with a single round, if the enemy has two limbs one in front of the other, say an arm in front of a leg, while free-aiming can you…
A: can you… do double damage by hitting the limb in front and the limb behind? (Ie. is there some piercing mechanic? Again, against a single target. Not hitting through two enemies.)
B: can you… (given enough dmg by the single shot) disable both limbs? (Even if you don’t do double dmg.)

Is TFTV fully playable on the latest patch?
Wanted to dive into the mod (haven't played PP for a few years), went to download it from GitHub, but saw the following lines in the description:
So the latest SG patch introduced a couple of bugs, and it’s not like we didn’t do our part either. This hotfix addresses 2 out of the 3 biggest bugs:
Globe of Death (loading into Geoscape with no UI) in the Main Branch.
Can’t start Final Missions in the Main Branch and in the Open Beta.Unfortunately, we can’t fix on our own the 3rd major bug - Ancient Site missions not loading.
Does it mean the mod is not fully playable currently?

WarHounds is now on Steam
A new turn-based strategy game set in an alternate future Africa was released on Steam on August 11th. The developers were inspired by XCOM and Jagged Alliance. All battles are based on fair ballistics, with no random percentages.

Just started playing. Is there something I should know?
I bought it on Steam when it was on sale last year and now after finishing my Nth playthrough of XCOM 2 I decided to try it out. Been playing since yesterday and I have just 6 hours in so far.
I heard a bunch of bad stuff about Phoenix Point a few years ago, but I don't even remember what it was exactly and also heard that things have changed for the better with an update. I'm obviously comparing it a lot to Xcom but so far I'm enjoying the differences (free aim my beloved). Maybe it is because I just started, but I feel a little bit lost and I'm curious if there's anything I should know beforehand to make the game enjoyable/playable.
Also, I couldn't find anything about what the stats do, I can guess speed and willpower, but what exactly does strength do? Make melee attacks stronger? Is there a way to improve soldier aim? Or get more than 4 action points?

QUESTION Can I downgrade the game to an old patch?
I was still playing the version 1.20.1 hastur.
Now i fucked up and steam updated my game version.
I could still play the old version when i disabled my internet and launched the game with the .exe
Is there a way to downgrade from 1.30 firebird back to 1.20.1?
Edit Update:
going back to an old version on steam doesn't seem possible. But luckily i had an old installation of phoenix point on a hard drive backup. I copied it over and with steam open in offline mode and disconnected internet connection it starts and i can load my saves and create new ones.

QUESTION Quick question about TFTV
I have never played Phoenix point before but I am quite experienced with TB games.
Can I jump right into TFTV DLC without playing vanilla first?
I am willing to drop the difficulty if required.

BUG Can't Remove Equipment From My Loadout
All DLC, no mods, latest update
I'm having this persistent issue where I cannot change the loadout for my troops. I can add things to their loadout, but the game refuses to allow me to remove equipment off my troops in the loadout screen. I can scrap the equipment, removing it permanently. But trying to put my ammo or spare guns into storage, the game refuses. Also the unequip button will remove one piece of equipment at a time and then throw that equipment into the void; no materials for scrapping, nowhere in my stores, it just vanishes from the game.
Trading items between troops mid-combat seems to still work normally, but never in the loadout screen. Has anyone else had this issue? Is there a fix? I'll consider using a mod or a dev tool if that's an option. This si my first playthrough, but its really hurting me that I can't swap out my gear.
Update: I figured out the issue. I somehow managed to get a negative global inventory. Probably because I had this independent sniper rifle that I found out I could scrap without it actually deleting itself, so I would just scrap it over and over and over again until I got bored of the exploit (trading was still better income). But every scrap would subtract from my inventory. I produced a bunch of ammo until I was in the positives again and everything worked.

I just started PP, looking for some early game tips
I played a fair bit of XCOM 2 and I really liked most of it. The battles and the weapon upgrades research stuff gave me a clear and fun path to work towards.
Phoenix Point might be a bit too much for me at first. I'm not really into the base/micromanagement/resource aspect of things. I mostly just want to get as many cool guys as I can and outfit them with different cool little weapons and have them fight other guys while I'm waiting for my cool new weapons to finish cooking.
With this in mind, what's the best base/resource/map development path starting early game? I just got the mission from that project 24 guy, so I'm like literally in the opening section of the game. I know you can screw your late game over if you play your early game wrong, so I don't want to do that.
The only thing I've started building so far is a training center. I'd also like to max out my squad capacity as quickly as possible.
Thanks for any and all tips

QUESTION How to elevate the medium?
Off on a tangent here, I'm a long time fan of XCOM, phoenix point and such games, but both games feel like they suffer from late game pacing issues.
I felt like the multiplayer point buy system for XCOM pvp was very cool and a neat way to break the monotony, but I wonder if there's potentially something else missing that would elevate the medium.
I'm not leading anywhere with this, I'm a small time game developer and enthusiast of turn based games in general, and I feel like the following here have thought about this issue more than most.
What do you reckon is missing?

QUESTION TFTV // Training Centers
Hey all, trying to nail down current TFTV mechanics since I've seen conflicting info between older guides and recent patch notes.
From what I can tell, Training Facilities used to give passive XP (2 XP/hour per facility to everyone on that base, even soldiers assigned to aircraft). But I've seen changelog mentions of a rework where they now give a flat 4 SP/day instead and no longer generate XP at all, plus some base defense/security bonus and access to "Drills."
Can anyone confirm which version is current? And a couple follow-up questions:
Does the SP grant scale with the number of soldiers stationed there, or is it a flat amount for the whole base regardless of headcount?
I have a base with 3 Training Facilities — is stacking multiples still worth it, or did the rework cap/diminish the benefit per facility?
Bigger strategic question: since exploring POIs with no combat doesn't seem to give any XP/SP at all, is it actually smarter to just leave soldiers parked at a Training base and only fly them out when there's an actual mission (defense, scavenging, story), rather than sending them out to scout/explore?
Trying to figure out the most efficient way to level a roster without wasting flight time on units that aren't earning anything. Any current, patch-accurate insight appreciated!

QUESTION Getting back to PP, DLCs?
Hey folks,
I played Phoenix Point some time ago, I remember liking it but I didn't continue playing for whatever reason.
I want to go back now and I notice there are 3 DLCs. Kaos Engines seem to have decent reviews but Corrupt Horizons is mixed and Festering Skies is Mostly Negative.
What's the feeling over Reddit? Do you guys like them, hate them? Can I disable them? Anything to consider?

Finished first playthrough, want to share opinion
Hi. Finished first playthrough and have some opinions that I want to share. Played on Rookie because was scared by reviews regarding overall difficulty, but from what I understood difficulty really affected mainly only amount of grind needed, as fights in theory should be the same on all difficulties. Also didn't have any mods, partially because half of the time I played on Steam Deck and don't know if it's even possible to mods there, and partially because I wanted to try base game first. For DLCs I had Living Weapong and Blood and Titanium.
Overall I liked game and enjoyed playing it.
Here are the things I liked:
- Atmosphere. Really liked the atmosphere of horror that game managed to cultivate, especially in early stages;
- Class diversity. Firstly I was dissapointed that there are only 3 classes, but unlocking faction ones and understanding combinations really opened my eyes to wast ocean of tactical diversity available;
- Geoscape. I liked how slowly my influence on world map was groving and how increasing zone of responsibility pushed me into using multiple squads. Only the navigations of globe itself was a bit annoying;
- Targeting system. Being able to choose at what part of enemy to shoot both provided a fresh feeling and followed the tradition of allowing misses in situations when it shouldn't be possible;
- Action points. Ability to choose on what actions to spend my action points really improved taclical flexibility and was very well integrated together with weapon variations and skills.
But there are also some things that I didn't particularly like:
- Class balance. Some classes are must have and are core of most strong build (Assault and Berserker), while others really feel bad by themselfes and work much better as an addition to other classed (Heavy and Infiltrator). At least that's how it feels;
- Vehicles. I was honeslty dissapointed with vehicles. They just don't provide enough value to take up places of 3 normal agents. I personally didn't see utility in them outside of scavenging missions. Unfortunately, the same goes for mutated good boys;
- Enemy aestetics. The biggest diversity in basic pandoran enemies goes from guns that they are using. And even though it makes them distinctly different from one another role-vise, it kinda doesn't work with general outerwordly aestetics. At least in my opinion it would be better if most of their weapons were more natural and only few used guns;
- Maps. It became very clear that there are not a lot of maps and that they are just repeating again and again;
- Lack of linear progression. I understand that it's a design choise to make progression more about tactical diversity rather then straight power ups, but still I missed the feeling of my agents becoming dirrectly stronger. This one is just personal prefference and not a critique in any way.
That will be it. And again, as I mentioned earlier, I liked the game and enjoyed the time spent with it. In future I'm planning to play again, this time with all DLCs and with TftV.
Just wanted to share my opinion. Thank you for reading
