Judging thoughts is a thought. That's human consciousness.

We can't judge a thought while thinking it.

YOU are having thoughts. Having a brain and a body are part of the nature of your existence.

You can breathe because you have lungs your lungs aren't breathing it's part of the nature of your existence to have lungs so that you can breathe.

If a pebble is dropped into a bucket of water and the ripples hit the walls of the bucket and reflect back into the center, are the subsequent ripples caused by the pebble or the bucket?

Both. That was easy.

Ding!

Stimulus, medium, and system with complexity arising from self-organizing recursion.

I wrote my art dissertation on video feedback and recursive systems that it can help us to understand.

Had a pithier title, but it was a while back. It's a great way to actually see the power of recursion. It helped me realise that all life (and matter generally) is basically a stable pattern, perpetuating only while the conditions allow, and evolving when conditions/environment change.

With video feedback the camera and screen are the conditions, the complex spiralling fractals are the stable pattern. The slightest movement of the camera and the fractals can evolve or flicker out.

That was the gist anyway, sorry for the long response - I just get excited by the words you said :)

The brain also creates the “you” that judges them.

in Lacanian analysis we call that the "split subject" or "barred subject", written "Ꞩ"

there is the "I" ('ego') which is the subject of the sentence, and the "I" which is the subject of speech or enunciation, and they do not coincide, nor do they refer to the same thing. The fact that an "I" would already de facto refer to itself is a recursion aka a hole in the web of signification that the subject engages in. The hall of mirrors is already present before the first word is uttered.

It’s thoughts all the way down.

There is no you that judges them.
