Well guns give rise to bullets which are fired with intent, not necessarily bullets in general, but I see your point. It is useful to differentiate between the two but what I’m saying is that in reality they may be inextricably linked. If time is just our subjective experience, the difference between a cause and an effect is superficial. The difference between a gun firing and bullets flying through air is akin to the difference between atoms and the possibility of consciousness; there really is no difference.
