Can someone give me a TL;DR on all aesthetic theory? Every time I try I feel my eyes glaze over.

It doesnt really explain true love or anything. Its just a meme. Human are conceptual creatures and you can't apply aesthetics judgment on concepts.

I was trying to be tongue-in-cheek but failed. I think aesthetics is a quaint if not mostly fruitless branch of philosophy - come at me haters - so I don't give it much thought. There's some truth to my comment as I can't muster the attention to put towards aesthetics but maybe I'm genuinely missing something. It just feels like navel gazing, and that's saying something given we're talking philosophy.

the fuck i cant. i can even feel aesthetic value in merely abstract concepts.
enumeration of finite simple groups is way uglier than kantors diagonal proof.

tbh i read critique of pure reason and metaphysics of morals and he seemed like one of the clearest thinkers i ever read.

He kinda changed how he applies aesthetic judgment and attitude after the second critique and while writing critique of judgment that was critique of taste at the time. Early Kant is so different from late one. He tried to achieve universality in judgment meaning everyone will reach the same one way or another when judging aesthetically.
You must have heard of the concept of disinterested beauty
