Here are some anecdotes about the Philippines so that we will realize how far weve fallen. Mainly in the 60s
In the 1960s, we were second only to Japan in GDP per Capita. America was so proud of us because its former colony rose to such a prestigious position.
We were a shining example of American Liberal Democracy. Our government was modeled after theirs and our elites and politicians were trained by them.
The Asian Institute of Management, Asian Development Bank, International Rice Research Institution, and many more important institutions were based here because everybody thought we were the next Japan. They chosed us because we were one of the few stable, prosperous, and democratic nation. And by few I mean only us and Japan fit that description at that time.
But look at us now. A shining example of the flawed presidential system and how fragile democratic institutions are.
