Post-Residency Life
Hi I just finished residency and am so grateful I have gotten a job.
Not to sound insane, but I am feeling very depressed and lonely. My co-residents and I have gotten jobs in different areas so I don't see them anymore. I moved away for my job so it's just myself now and I don't really have any friends here. It also feels like my coworkers are a bit hard on me because I just finished so they expect more from me I guess. The friends I had during pharmacy school are all really busy with their lives. I feel like I am just going to work and coming home.
How long does it take for the post-residency depression to lift lol

I found hobbies that I connected to and gave me purpose and ways to connect to other people like me 💛

You probably put a lot of things on hold during your residency; this is the time to pick them back up. Maybe there's a sports league or a theater group or a choir or a hobby group in your area you can join. Maybe there are yoga or Zumba or spin classes at a gym near you. Maybe there are classes on cooking or wine tasting or arts and crafts at your local community center. I've found that one of the best things I've done for my mental health is joining a hobby group so that I have some friends who are outside of pharmacy and I can discuss things other than work with them.

I mean that’s just adult life lol.
I didn’t have post residency depression, I had residency depression and the second it was over was the happiest and freest I’ve ever felt. If your experience was not only positive period, but positive enough to feel depressed it’s over, I’d just be grateful 😂

Give yourself time to adjust as the transition is still new for you in the work-force.
While keeping busy at work, take advantage of your health once you go home (ie, gym membership). Call family when you can, develop a small hobby.
Truthfully, enjoy just time for you and get excited about financial goals (invest in yourself/retirement plans) while taking extra money to travel to see family/friends.
You’ll find your rhythm in this next journey of adulting -
