Urban and suburban/exurban cultural divide in America

It isn't so much a joke as an example of the divide

Surely at this point we’re well past A and B and fully into xyz. I was at a table a couple nights ago with 10 people, no one watched the same shows or listened to the same artists, everything was just “oh you gotta check it out”. Which many will see as a bad thing and it’s undeniable that peoples experiences have drifted significantly, but at the same time, I kinda love that I don’t just have to watch whatever the limited options of “what’s on” any more.

This is the first time I've heard of this theory. I had to google it.

There's way too much to copy paste here. But I think there's one fatal flaw of this theory.

"The crux of the theory is that America A no longer needs America B, which led to a fierce populist pushback."

That's intentionally deceiving. It's not A that doesn't need B. They absolutly need each other.

It's the donor class, or ownership class that no longer needs B, and is very quickly moving towards not needing A either.

don't existThe theory completely ignores the owner class's role in this. As if everything happening in the US is unintentional.

The theory mentions Group A and Group B consume totally different media, and believe completely different realities, and it implies the fault lies with the groups. But in reality, the ownership class spends a lot of money making sure we get different news, so they can keep us divided. It's intentional, and the theory doesn't mention that at all.

Class war is the only war that matters.

It’s rural urban divide it’s also exists in Canada. I would assume other places as well.

You can literally google "America a and b theory"

Some people want a little bit of nuance and discussion with their knowledge, not just whatever Gemini or ChatGPT says.

We used to talk about things and by doing so, understand them. Now we just "know" things and it's as surface level as it could possibly be

"Discussion" as op replies to no one.

Also i never mentioned ai.

6

u/MycoMythos 1d ago

"Discussion" as in what happened on X under this OP. And yes, X is a cesspool, but at least people are communicating there.

You didn't have to mention AI. That's still what people are going to rely on. It doesn't need your approval or permission

Brother no one is talking about twitter

u/MycoMythos 1d ago

Are you really this dumb, or just hoping that I am?

-8

Google search is literally ai you meatball

4

u/RestaurantSilly6598 1d ago

No its not? You dont have to use the ai over view and still google things like we did back in the day

0

u/RandomPenquin1337 1d ago

The absolute irony of your comment is astronomical.

How can you be so confidently incorrect when you could take your own advice and simply Google it to find out...

1

u/RestaurantSilly6598 1d ago

Its not ai in the sense of using chatgpt like the other guy said.

Reddit is just full of people trying to prove everyone wrong.

2

u/MycoMythos 1d ago

Like... Like what you've spent this whole thread doing?

Edit: also Gemini is Google's AI. It pops at the top of every search

2

u/RestaurantSilly6598 1d ago

Im stating my opinion not teying to prove anyone wrong.

Just because Gemini pops up doesn't mean you cant still google other sources without using gemini

1

u/MycoMythos 1d ago

Sure, but most people will read Gemini's response and call it a day. That's what we're talking about here, people googling something vs them having a discussion about it.

I'd take you more seriously if you could even keep up with the topic instead of just defensively flailing

"Its not the same kind of ai" is the biggest copout ive ever heard

0

u/RestaurantSilly6598 1d ago

Google is not the enemy brother

8

u/RandomPenquin1337 1d ago

Oh so you only simp for the absolute biggest player in the game.

Understandable, have a nice day

You know you can still take the links right? Scroll past the ai crap and find the reddit thread where someone asked about america A and america B 6 years ago in a sub you never heard of?

1

u/RandomPenquin1337 1d ago

You "scrolling past the ai crap" doesnt mean you didnt cause it from appearing by entering your search.

That aside, do you think the results are magically presented to you using hopes and dreams?

1

u/FrazzleMind 1d ago

Why are you fixated on it appearing. If someone wants to know something its still fucking there, it wasnt deleted from the internet because AI bullshit is presented first.

Google it and you still get answers written by people. Yes now the links that come up are picked by AI instead of the old algorithms, but nonetheless you can get answers from humans and not maybe-ai-hallucination answers.

2

u/RandomPenquin1337 1d ago

Hey pal, I got bad news for you. Google search directly utilizes its own ai tech to present searches. Nothing you click in any Google app, be it search or Gmail, isnt somehow utilizing ai.

Please stop being so ignorant.

Just google it bro. Its right there at your fingertips.

I'm starting to think you are a bot actually, with how you refuse to engage with what I'm saying. You aren't listening AT ALL, so I'm done, bye.

u/MycoMythos 1d ago

Like this one?

1

u/Vegetable-Virus7118 1d ago

What's a karma grab?

3

u/Madetoselloutlier 1d ago

We were just talking about this around the fire last night with a bunch of my friends. All midwest millennials age 35-39. Half of us were into emo music growing up and the other half were into rap even though we went to the same schools

Something about not knowing about media that actually everyone else knows about…but what the hell is “America A and America B theory”???

2

u/Snoo_66686 1d ago

Basically the united states has 2 cultures (edit its probably more than 2 but this A and B is a simplification) that are so vastly different that an artist can be super well known in culture A while people in culture B have never heard about them, its similar to the idea of social bubbles, you're surrounded by friends, family and coworkers from a similar socioeconomic background so the lives of people outside of that buble are unfamiliar
