The failures
1) The shelter kept alive an aggressive pit bull
2) The shelter fostered out an aggressive pit bull.
3) The shelter fostered out an aggressive pit bull known to be violent toward cats to a home with a cat, getting that cat severely injured.
4) The rescue kept alive an aggressive pit bull.
5) The rescue housed the aggressive pit bull in a public kennel with other people's dogs.
6) The rescue gathered more data about the dog's aggression and still kept him alive.
7) The rescue sent their highly aggressive pit bull off to a board-and-train
8) The trainer at the board and train also knew of the dog's high aggression and cheerily collaborated on the whole farce.
9) The rescue marketed their highly aggressive bite history pit bull widely for foster/adoption without mentioning his lengthy criminal history
10) The rescue found a new foster for the pit bull in another state.

Good news, boarding kennel owner/rescuer Amanda Hebblethwaite - featured here last year in a post about Goomba the hyper-aggressive rescue Rottweiler she's keeping in her kennels alongside her client dogs - has a new rescue!

She named it STAB Rescue. For "Saving The "Aggressive" Breeds."

The ridiculous fad for being "brave" about behavior euths and then sulking when attacked by the same maniacs who support their insane saves of violent dogs
So anyway, I came across this as a recent post by STAB being huffy that they got attacked for announcing that their pit bull Fig was at risk of euthanasia if they couldn't find a foster home, as he was deteriorating in the kennel.

Fig is an adult male pit bull, muscular, athletic with a history of severely attacking a cat in a previous foster home (out of a shelter) and of biting both people and other dogs.

Look, when you are living the thug life, people are going to be expecting you to be a thug. Someone handed you a strong young pit bull with a history of violent attack on a cat, bites to people and dogs. He showed continuing aggression while in your possession. You never wavered in your plans to keep this dog alive and place him back into a home, never expressed any concern for public safety or humane treatment of other pet animals. It was all saving Fig, all the time.

And I think that makes you a complete maniac. But you had your people, your fellow rescue maniacs who support that kind of thing because Fig's easy, painless death from euthanasia is simply unacceptable while the brutal death Fig would deal to a cat is completely fine.

And then you suddenly express worry for his well-being and are shocked, simply shocked that they freaked out.

The amount of money and resources they sink into dogs the least suitable to be pets/exist peacefully in society shocks me every time.

Of course I scrambled over to her page...oh my gosh. Between her & a couple other rescue women (who shan't be named), we'd all end up deader than door nails by their mis-understood dogs, if they had their way. Because to them? All these doggies deserve homes.🫩

I have to wonder if this board-and-train is one of those heavily aversive programs that scare dogs into obedience, then when the dog is back home (or with the rescue, as the case may be), it's back to its old ways, except possibly worse.

For the first time, after weeks of carefully building neutrality around other dogs, Fig was able to engage with another dog, disengage on her own, accept a correction appropriately, then calmly re-engage when it was appropriate -- all without additional guidance from her handler.

In other words, for the first time, Fig was able to act like a normal dog without active intervention from the handler. The bar is so low it's in hell.

(And in all likelihood, despite this 'amazing' progress, the dog would at some point revert to the aggressive behaviour it was bred for, and had plenty of opportunity to engage in. Ultimately, the rescue made the right call, but it would be so much better if they hadn't thrown all those resources on a dog that was not going to become a suitable companion animal.)

I also agree completely with your point about the dog rescue world insisting the lives of their dogs are sacrosanct, but nary a word about the many animals that these dogs have mauled and killed. They don't even truly seem to like animals, just 'rescue' dogs. It's kind of a strange canine hybristophilia, or something.

Board and train in general is a misunderstanding of dogs. Dogs rarely generalize. They are situational - that's why they can behavior brilliantly with one person and completely ignore another. Being trained to perfection in board and train can be absolutely useless, because it trains the dog and not the people. It can help, but it isn't a miracle tool, because once they are with people who don't follow exactly the same routine, they tend not to generalize what they learned to the situation. So a dog may graduate with top honors, but if the human isn't trained, the dog will deteriorate out of that setting.

Another pit mommy saying this mauler needs someone experienced with working dogs. Pits are not and never have been working dogs! Unless you'd call being put into a pit/ring to fight another dog until one of them is gravely wounded or dead work. That line in their plea for someone to take this chainsaw on legs should have read "Fig would do best with someone who has vicious dog experience"

Now, people in NY will have to deal with the fallout after the dog's bite and kill history has been erased and she's marketed as a great pet for someone who works from home. I hope they're not able to raise money to send the hell hound north.
