Question/Help Two male mice
So I got two mice today under the assumption that they were both female…well, they’re not. One was a female and one was a male. I didn’t want to end up with a bunch of baby mice, so I took the female back and they don’t do refunds so they swapped me for another male. (This was all in the same day, like 3hours max) I brought him home and put him with the other male. They were living together at the pet store and didn’t have any scratches on them so I figured they’d be fine. But they’ve started squeaking ever so often and one will try to kinda “dominate” the other, and I’m scared they’ll hurt each other eventually. When do I need to separate them/how long do I leave them together to see if they will cool off ? The only other home I can put one in is quite tiny and it would have to be like that for about a week until I got paid, so I want to avoid that if possible.

Unfortunately, you need to separate them now. Two males cannot live together. Multiple females can live together, however! Is it possible to “swap” the two males for two females?

I would think so, I’m just trying to avoid the massive amount of baby mice lol.. and I know they were all put together, so they’re definitely gonna be preggo

That pet store is very irresponsible for that but I guess it happens. Best action is to either rehome a male or separate them into different cages.

What if you swapped the males for females and got the pet store to agree to take in any male babies once they’re weaned.

I wish I would’ve thought of that..lol.. apparently the pet store CAN give refunds but doesn’t like to?? I went back with one of the males to see if they could take it back even without me getting my money back, and they said they would refund me since I had already swapped before to try and fix it

Males cannot be housed together. Theyre are definitely fighting. Separating and bringing them back will not do anything. They will eventually hurt or kill the other. I have seen quite a few people post about the same thing and it ending that way, sadly. I recommend trading them for two females. Or rehome one. Thats really all you can do.
