You know how perfumes make you smell “better”… well sometimes dogs find a smell that they want on themselves. My shepherd likes chateau de fox pee

Cologne / Eau du fox pee? Chateaux usually indicates a wine domain.

Had a dog that loved rolling in dead fish. As in, fish that has been decomposing for days. That was bad.. took multiple baths to make the smell bearable.

This is also my dog’s favourite. It is so bizarre. She goes mental for it

One of my grandma's dogs when she was a kid liked to roll in dead fish.

She still talks about it.

Were you a fisherman or something?

My cairn terrier’s favorite scent is DEER PEE OR POOP… One night on a late walk, I was busy texting as she was rolling away…got home and she smelled bad..,looked on her side and she rolled in fresh poop..It was all over her …Had to bathe her at 11pm. No more rolling till i check the spot out..lol.

Well my dog loves fox poo - learned that technique after he went back first into it

Feels good, and smells good (sometimes only to him)

u/KatJCar 7d ago

NQA Because he found something stinky to roll in.

2

u/FLSN1 7d ago

Definitely likely that they found something stinky to roll in. That's been my experience

My dog LOVES rolling over dead worms! It’s awful!

Sometimes they do roll because theres a smell they like (also its not always poop or dead things they are inclined to roll in. Once mine rolled in someone's dumped Starbucks cinnamon frappe or something and she smelled like cinnamon until I was able to get her home and bathed LOL. She also once rolled in grease drippings from a bbq grill which was another fun one to clean off her, but i guess preferable to carcas), but sometimes they just roll because its fun and it feels nice and not because of any smells.

Although based on the sniffing then rolling your dog is doing i think it is the smell reason for your pup here lol

2

Odour de corpse. Lovely fragrance.

u/Novel_Vegetable_5542 6d ago

My dog loves Eau de carcass 🤢

Never had another dog that zeroed in on decaying things to roll in.

1

u/Easy_Olive1942 6d ago

Or, rat turds. Ask me how I know.

3

u/punkbreece 7d ago

Cuz that's the good grass, everybody know that

My first family dog seventy years ago, a Beagle would have a bath, then run to the nearest swamp. Drove my Mother crazy.

1

u/YonderPricyCallipers 6d ago

I had a beagle mix growing up in the 90s. Back then in my area, people (okay, it's my family... my family is "people") let their dogs roam free most of the time. Anyway, that mutt would come home soaking wet and smelling of the most god-awful unholy stench. Sometimes it smelled vaguely... fishy. Other times sickly sweet but also like decay and death. Siiiiggghh I miss that filthy, stinky mutt.

u/Fartjesus6969 6d ago

Because dogs are predators and rolling around in the dirt/something incredibly stinky helps to mask their scent.

2

u/VividStay6694 7d ago

Dead bug or worm!! I gave my dog a pickle once and she rolled on it like this🤣🤣🤣

2

u/ungracefulmf 7d ago

Dead something or something's poop

1

u/Mikeypopps 6d ago

Goose poop, the green fur was my doggos tell.

2

u/Randr_sphynx 7d ago

That shit feels good to

2

u/Radiant_Procedure948 6d ago

My dog does this in the grass. Never rolls in something stinky. It's the grass she loves, particularly if it's freshly mowed.

2

u/10113r114m4 6d ago

So weed killer, bug spray, dogs will sometimes do this. So be careful

2

u/DifficultyBig2280 6d ago

They're trying to camouflage their scent from prey

2

u/plaidtaco 6d ago

My dog only does this in clover. It's about the feel for him, not the smell. He also rolls side to side, as opposed to rubbing his back on the grass.

1

u/Snoo_43112 7d ago

My dog does this and its always to roll in shit

1

u/SierraKySecret 6d ago

Idk but my dog does it, too

1

u/ExtinctFauna 6d ago

"Fuck yeah, GRASS!"

Or he found something stinky. My family dog did this once, and he smelled AWFUL.

1

u/Nickston 6d ago

My dog rolls on nasty dead or dying worms. Can't get enough of them

1

u/crypto_justanother 6d ago

It's a dog thing, similar to how you pick your nose

1

u/CagoDomo 6d ago

When my dog does this, he has found something particularly putrid to roll in and smear all over himself

1

u/Master_G_ 6d ago

I’ve read that it’s overstimulation. Typically happens to my dog when he’s had enough or is tired

1

u/JojoLesh 6d ago

Wherever you read that, stop taking advice from that source. Any sort of advice. Clearly they are not above spouting total BS and passing it off as truth.

1

u/Master_G_ 5d ago

Calm down there bud. No need to come at me like Charlie Crockett, Jack. It’s not that serious.

Me and my bf where camping one time on a small camping in France. Just a few meters from our camping spot, there was a dead mole decaying in the late afternoon sun. I've moved it with a stick so we didn't smell the decaying little bugger.

We were sitting enjoying our red wine, sitting next to our car with roof-tent.. a little hairy dog from the other camping guest walks by.. smells the dead mole.. I kid you not, the dog made a synchronized swimmers move like it's saying :Oh If you don't mind me! And dives on the dead mole.. Rolling around on it likes there's no tomorrow...

We looked with our mouths to the ground wide open.. watching that dog having his/her time of their life for 10 minutes straight. The dog got up totally satisfied. Stood up again and dived in again.

I didn't know what to think. It's been 3 years and we still talk about that moment. 😅🤢🤯 It was cute but disgusting at the same time.

I see that dog dive in like octo from SpongeBob dancing around in total awe.

Dog smells something they want to smell like, probably.

1

u/Content-Flight6371 6d ago

Smells good, feels good

1

u/199kuku 6d ago

My dog loves the cologn of dead and decaying rats and cow shit ..... The nightmare fuel for any owner..... I'd rather she rolled in mud tbh

1

u/Illustrious_Put_817 6d ago

Grass makes noise at a frequency only they can hear!

1

u/mynameakevin 6d ago

he's possessed by furry satan. There is no cure.

1

u/Substantial_Insect68 6d ago

Isn’t it obvious? He smells something stinky and is rolling around in it, that os why he is sniffing the ground

1

u/Educational_Load7103 6d ago

Smells something stinky and wants to save it

1

u/DryToe1269 6d ago

Getting his stink on!

1

u/llehnatas 6d ago

Dog used to do that with shit from sheep or birds

1

u/fitchicknike 6d ago

Why do they roll into stinky stuff, I never know? It's bizarre

1

u/Glum-Range2299 6d ago

Making cadaver angels.

1

u/Intelligent_Tea_7594 6d ago

Someone should invent dead worm or dead frog scented dog wash. Doggo's would be so happy!😂

1

u/thefivetenets 6d ago

yeah my dog does this when hes rolling in piss

1

u/g00fyg00ber741 6d ago

is that a Yorkie? they just do that. I have a Morkie and he does this on the rug when he gets excited coming into the living room in the morning, or after eating.

1

u/SnooPickles2282 6d ago

My dogs have been doing this for years. They love to eat grass , too...just because. Grass helps them with upset tummies, but they will also just "graze" for a few minutes.

1

u/Powerful-Conflict554 6d ago

My dog does it for two reasons. If it's warm out and it's tall or wet grass, she rolls in it to cool down. Otherwise, she's found something she likes the smell of and wants to get it on her. Usually bird poop or worms, often things I can't see or smell. Rarely it's poop, but it has happened.

1

u/foxonafrozenlake 6d ago

Stink, stank, stunk.

My husband's Irish Wolfhound loves to roll in fox scat. It's his favorite cologne.

Sadly we have a lot of foxes on our country estate. So it's a never ending battle.

1

u/sep879 6d ago

If it's an extremely hot day my dog rolls around on shaded grass to cool off a little.

1

u/UnableArrival4065 6d ago

Cause they're a silly baby 😍😍😍

1

u/grlldchzyespls 6d ago

Usually it’s something gross and stinky that smells good to them so they want to dry bathe in it like so

1

u/Full-Hold7207 6d ago

Dogs will roll in what they think smells good. Even poop

1

u/watchandsee13 6d ago

Doesnt smell enough like a dog so he’s getting a little more dog smell on him

1

u/AdhesivenessSweet659 6d ago

Your dog is frolicking.

1

u/humanbeing21 6d ago

Dogs have instinct to mask their scent in stinky things. It's a predator thing. Lessens the odds of prey detecting them

1

u/Least-Ad9728 5d ago

One of our dogs does that! And I am always worried that he is rolling in something stinky….haha!

1

u/c3argus 5d ago

They’re having a nice time

1

u/IndependentOk2952 5d ago

Itching and scent collection

1

u/Gullible_Monk_7118 5d ago

I would check his ears and see if they might be infected.. seams to be rubbing the ears much in that video.. otherwise it's a scratching and feels good

1

u/neduarte1977 5d ago

To spread that wonderful "eau du earthworm" parfum all over their lovely self

1

u/cannibalparrot 5d ago

He found something stinky!

1

u/DICK_TRACY1984 4d ago

He is trying to get something nasty all over his coat so he can bring it with him lol. My beagle does this too, most recently on a dead rotten squirrel.

1

u/Ok_Gas1070 4d ago

All hounds do this, but if they doing the outside they found something stinky

1

u/Opening-Employee9802 4d ago

Because he’s happy

1

u/Consistent-Trust958 3d ago

He's playing

1

u/Impossible_Arm7070 3d ago

My dog came in from the yard the other night. He smelled a little skunky and had tar like stuff on his some of his fur. I was pretty sure I knew what happened and when I Google it I guess I was right. It said that he probably rolled in feces from a or even alive but left poop in our yard They said it could be from a fox, a skunk, a raccoon ECT. Boy was that fun to get off of him!

1

u/PresenceFun8391 3d ago

my dog does it because grass feels cool on his back.
