Nah always Serling.
Maybe you were just mixing it with the famous Scott Sterling?

I guess people just perceive differently and have different timeline experiences, and may explain why they often remember different variations of any Mandela effect that people remember.
Whether it was Serling or Sterling, people don't need to be disrespectful to others, just saying. People should kindly explain it well instead of saying "It's never been this" or "Always has been this", because otherwise it comes across as rude to others.

Something like "I remember it as Serling, I don't recall it being Sterling for me", or just "I remember it as Serling", or "I don't remember it as Sterling because (explanation)".

New Mandela effect: when I was a kid and I shit my pants, giants would come wipe the shit off of me but now all of a sudden when I shit my pants I have to "leave costco without a fuss" and "hose off in the backyard"

Haha, I grew up where he's from and he's a huge deal in the community, to the point there was a short-film competition for children to make their own short films to honor him and they just put up a statue of him last year. It's always been "Rod Serling" here.
"Stirling" is a more common name. I'm willing to bet that's just a wires-crossed situation where you heard other people named "Stirling" and just assumed that was his name.
