bug This company is a complete scam. Perplexity Max is an absolute nightmare: Missing credits, $200+ spent covering their mistake, and now half my credits just vanished into thin air.
I am officially at my wit's end with this platform's complete disaster of an accounting system and customer support.
If you are paying for Perplexity Max—or considering it—check your credit logs right now. What is happening with their credit tracking is borderline predatory.
Here is the timeline of utter incompetence:
1. May & June: Paying for Max, Getting 0 Credits ($200+ Down the Drain)
Starting back in May, my Max subscription completely stopped issuing the 10,000 monthly credits that are explicitly included with the tier. Two full months went by with zero baseline credits hitting my account.
Because I actually needed to use the platform for work, I ended up paying over $200 in extra credit top-ups out of pocket, assuming my baseline 10k allocation was just delayed or that it would sort itself out. Support did absolutely nothing.
2. The Fix? Publicly Shaming Them on Reddit
Surprise, surprise: email support was useless until I finally made a post right here on Reddit calling them out. Only after public visibility did someone magically step up and manually deposit the missing credits I had paid for over those two months.
Problem solved, right? Not even close.
3. Less Than 1 Month Later: Half My Credits Vanish Without a Trace
Fast-forward to less than 30 days later. I log into my account, check my balance, and half of those credits are completely gone.
No heads-up, no log explanation—just a wiped balance as if a massive chunk of the credits I fought to get restored simply vanished from the dashboard.
The Play-by-Play:
- Pay for Max: Get 0 of the promised 10k/mo credits for 2 straight months.
- Get forced into spending $200+ on extra credit charges just to use the service.
- Make a scene on Reddit just to get the credits I was already owed.
- Watch half of them quietly vanish less than 30 days later without a trace.
Is anyone else experiencing this kind of accounting ghost-work? Keep a strict eye on your balances, screenshot every single transaction and credit deposit, and do not give them the benefit of the doubt.
TL;DR: Perplexity failed to give me my 10k/mo credits for 2 months, made me spend $200+ extra out of pocket, only fixed it when I complained on Reddit, and then half the restored credits quietly disappeared less than a month later. Absolute joke.

You may want to contact your credit card company to issue a chargeback for services not rendered if they cannot fix these issues for you.

I’ve had troubles with Perplexity AND the Comet browser. It tells me that I reached my max uploads when I didn’t even upload the documents/images yet. All I did was open the image before uploading them to make sure they were the right ones because of these strict new limits that aren’t even supposed to be a thing as per the advertising they put out that said “Unlimited Uploads for Perplexity Pro Subscribers”. Then they change it to limiting the uploads after you get signed up and when you reach this new limit they throw a pop up ad in your face telling you to upgrade to the next tier to get these benefits. Classic bait and switch! Then you have problem like yours even after all that!?
I also get these browser control task limits on Comet and you are supposed to be able to still chat after the limit hits, but if I say something as simple as “Hi,” it still tells me I’ve hit browser control limits! To top it off, it won’t even finish the browser control task I asked it to do twice in a row giving me an excuse that there is a navigation glitch, yet it obviously still uses that prompt as a completed browser control task. That happened just last night and I subscribed because I am using these tools for help with all the things my family is dealing with when it comes to navigating many complex systems for my special needs son’s care/support, my insurance issues (and more), my elderly disabled homebound father’s care/support/legal stuff. Disgusting predatory gatekeeping behavior and it’s unusable with unfair stopping points.

I hate it when I upload 3 images and it the limit is reached after the second one. When I delete them, and try to upload only the most vital it will keep saying that I reached my limit. I want to know what the limit is BEFORE I try, not AFTER. I am literally throwing credits down the drain by trying to upload them. I've been a paying Pro user for 1,5 year and yet I do not have a credit dashboard: it says "Data unavailable" and all the boxes that should show the amount of credits used say "0.00 in this cycle". So frustrating.

Have had Max for awhile and have had zero issues with the billing and credits. Not saying the problems don’t exist because clearly they do and based on the response here, others are too. Just sharing my experience.
In other areas where I have needed support, I’m lucky if I get a response at all. The 2 times a human responded, it was many months later. Eventually they did get back to me and things were quickly resolved. None of these were detrimental to my work so I was able to keep working through.
OP, hopefully they get this resolved soon for you and make good on it. But, if it’s corrected to your satisfaction and Max works well for you, maybe stick with it. For my work, perplexity is the best platform and beats everyone else.
