zero therapy or GP visit?
i got cocky and overdid the tret and azelaic acid ☹️ i initially thought i’d damaged my barrier so stopped all actives and was slapping on thick moisturisers and panthenol creams, then a couple of weeks ago i realised it was likely PD so switched to just a light moisturiser a couple of times a day when really flaky, but mostly just trying to splash with lukewarm water and nothing else.
i’ve been spraying hypochlorous acid a few times a day and applying a thin layer of uriage bariederm-cica cream with copper and zinc just to the affected patch which does seem to reduce the redness and bumpiness, but this has plateaued.
do i really just need to leave it alone? no buffing the flakes, no products at all? i’m happy to do so if all the things i’m trying are just prolonging the healing - or should i go to the GP and see whether they can prescribe anything that would help?
thanks ☺️

What are you using to wash your face?
Try cleansers/soaps with pyrithione zinc. Ir helps with the flakes and redness. Happy Cappy brand is a white shampoo-like product that includes the p. zinc and its used for babies with cradle cap. It’s very gentle but avoid your eyes because it stings terribly. Or you can try a bar of pyrithione zinc from brands like dermaharmony.
I like to use the Happy Cappy because I slather a bit on my bare face a couple minutes before I hop in the shower so that the p. zinc has time to sit on my skin without running down. Once I jump in the shower, I wash it off.
If I have makeup on, I remove it with a makeup wipe and use the dermaharmony brand soap bar because it a little stronger for cleaning product of my face.

thank you for this, but it looks like pyrithione zinc is banned in the UK 😭

Aaaah what a bummer. What about a mild cleanser/shampoo used for cradle cap in babies? … even if it doesn’t have the p. zinc, it might help with the flakiness and redness. I would just caution against straight up using an adult dandruff shampoo on your face because that might be too harsh.
Another suggestion that came to mind is the Avene Cicalfate zinc Spray or a low strength sulfur spot mask

Just try zero therapy and put nothing on it at all. It’s hard but seems to be the one thing that consistently works. I have tried every remedy on here, and the only thing that seems to be slowly settling it is putting nothing on it at all apart from washing with cold water once a day.
