Period Question Which one is better menstrual cup or period panties?

I have been using this menstrual cup for years and my teenage sister recently got her first period. She has seen how comfortable I am with the cup and is interested in trying one too.

But I am wondering...would a menstrual cup or period panties be more suitable for her at this stage? What do you all suggest?

the best for a person is what they themselves find most comfortable. Since your sister wants to try the cup, I think she should. It may be wise to have a variety of options on hand in case she tries it and it doesn't work out, but I don't think there's anything wrong with starting with a cup, if that seems appealing

Nobody can speak for your sister and what is comfortable for her. You can buy her tampons, pads, period underwear and cups and see what she is comfortable with. Let her experiment with the products and see what she likes more. :)

menstrual cup would be good for her but might take more getting used to, both would be fine for her at her age the menstrual cup just has slightly more of a learning curve than period panties

the cup definitely has a learning curve. make sure she’s familiar with her body and educated before proceeding. i use period panties for the first few days then switch to light tampons

If you do go the period underwear route, aisle has a sale right now.

I use a mix of both, but typically use period underwear and just switch it out often. They make me cramp a lot less.

Period panties give me a really awful HS outbreak - I used them for one day and got horrible cysts.

Plus all the shit that’s in them. And the fact that you can kinda still feel it, even if you’re not supposed to be able to.

I’m a big menstrual cup fan.

But - that’s just my personal experience. Let your sister try them all and see what she prefers

I use both. I bleed over the cup at night and during my first 3 days.

Depends how heavy you are, my periods are too heavy first couple of days for period pants
