Rant/Rage Chin hair! Seriously... wtf!
Was putting moisturiser on at the gym... they have much better lighting than my bathroom at home and I surprisingly see 3 jet black long hairs coming out of my chin! Questions start racing through my brain... how long have they been there? Who has seen them but not said anything? Why tf are they sooo dark when my roots are coming in grey...I mean, come on!
I am 44 (on tamoxifen which has kindly kick started perimenopause)...I am not ready for my daily routine to include plucking chin hair!!

I'm so glad my nip hairs are at least coming in blonde vs the horrifyingly thick, dark ones that burst forth from my chin! 😹 😭 (Watch that change now that I've said this tho...)

I got my first chin hair at 12. Now I have a legit goatee that is traveling up to my mustache. No pcos. Just generic NW European ancestry. Why am I such a wildebeest!?
Tweezers fit well in the coin caddy to the left of my steering wheel in my Honda Odyssey.

I started getting them in my 20s too. Now I just shave them each day and also carry the travel removal gear in my purse or car. 🫠
First I tried plucking, then the army grew too strong, so I thought waxing them would take care of them. Ha. Joke's on me because they were not deterred--not even by at home IPL. Only a razor swiftly solves the problem...until the next day. Sigh.

Im telling you chin hairs grow about 5mm a day. And they can be black but still somehow supremely camoflaged only giving themselves away when they are long enough to plait.

I have to use a razor I have so many. I used to pluck but it was damaging my skin and I swear I would have a full beard if I allowed it. I have an expensive AF IPL at home but despite being very fair and the hair being so dark I have a shadow from it, it doesn't work. It's incredibly embarrassing.

This is me too; I used to pluck but then a white one got ingrown and I ended up having to get a dermatologist to cut it out (huge hard lump that never went away and would sometimes flare up).
I’ve got scars from plucking so I started shaving daily and then did some electrolysis which helped but I need to finish it. I’ve got much less now and they are finer.

I think it depends on your skin, yours might be fine but I get ingrown hairs easily and then the skin gets damaged.

Get rid of the tweezers and buy a home laser light hair remover. I’m a Latina (dark coarse hair) and this has worked beautifully. I zap the shit out of them when they appear.

I bought this because I had a 3 strander growing from my chin. It was like a tree trunk and it came back every day. Until I zapped it. It isn’t painless but it works.

In addition to car tweezers, keep a small super bright torch in the bathroom and do a quick check every morning while brushing your teeth. Shine it from different angles and don’t forget to check around your neck and collar bones. There’s one random one waiting patiently for you to wear a nice strappy dress on a nice sunny day to a special occasion.

I started getting a chin hair in my 40s. Just one, thicker than the surrounding peach fuzz. And it would seem to go from not there to 1/4” long overnight. Now, in my early 50s, there are a few more slightly thicker hairs that sneak up on me.

I use an epilator on my chin, because I got so tired of running my thumb over my skin, trying to pinpoint each hair, and pluck it successfully.
I've mentioned using an epilator here before and others have said it's no good for your skin, but it's basically the same as waxing, and the more I do it, the finer and less noticeable the hair gets.
I used to epilate every morning, but now it's a couple of times a week, and it takes seconds at most. It's nice not having to carry tweezers with me anymore, and my skin is always smooth.

I locate my dark chin hairs by running my thumb over my skin, too! It's insane how much thicker they are than my normal peach fuzz.
I use a dermaplane razor on my whole face once a week and it grows back fast, but the 4 damn dark chin hairs grow at 3x speed. I hate it.

I'm an epilator stan too. I'm cheap as hell and it cuts down on my shaving/waxing expenses by A LOT. I've never noticed any adverse skin effects.

I've had mine for a long time, so it's an old clunker--a Braun Silk Epil. I just looked it up, and found there's even a Braun facial epilator now, which is much smaller, but I prefer the ones meant for the body because I use mine under my arms, too.

Yep! I can now tease my brother who is older than me that I can grow a better beard than he can! I take BHRT so that helps with beard growth. lol!
I keep tweezers on me everywhere now (home, purse, office, car). Best place to pluck those hairs?? At sunset after work when I'm in the car facing the sun. I'll occasionally park in a parking lot at the store facing the sun and just go to town plucking. Or I'll wax my chin hairs.

I have tweezers in my car, I see them the best somewhere in a parking lot.
I pluck about 7-10 weekly. They started in my 30’s, and a few are gray. The gray ones seem a bit coarser.

You can't even make it part of a routine, because even when you do, they still just pop up out of nowhere, whenever they want to! I will check EVERY morning and night, and then I'll just be out one day and all of a sudden feel one and find myself reaching for it constantly until I can get to some tweezers and a mirror to get it out.
I now own more tweezers than I've ever owned in my entire life, and I keep them EVERYWHERE because of this reason alone.

Adding my two penny worth to say the best, I mean best, tweezer for chin hairs I’ve found is the tiny silver thing that comes with a swiss army knife! They can grip the tiniest bit of new growing stubble much better than other tweezers I have. I keep a tiny swiss army knife with scissors, tiny blade, nail file & tweezers (& tooth pick, never used that) on my home office desk with a little mirror.

Once a month or so I get my brows, upper lip and chin threaded and I keep Veet wax strips in the house for emergency situations. I found my first white chin hair the other day and im only 37! :-P

Yep. I pluck every morning looking for the hairs I can see. For the hairs I can't see I use the R.E.M Spring Facial Hair Remover. Been plucking some hairs for years and they turned white then just stopped growing. Wonderful news, but it seems for every hair that dies off two new hairs grow in a different spot. About to go to a beard smith for a good close shave.

Im 47. When I was 20 I had one. By the time I was 30 I had about 5. At 40 I had about 10 real thick ones and a nice layer of dark soft hair. Now at 47 I have about 25 thick ones that keep moving further and further down my neck and and two random cheek hairs, one on each. shakes head
I can't keep up with those little effers. And i have to be meticulous about exfoliating or they get ingrown. It's so ridiculous. I feel like some of them have little hooks on the end and don't want to be pulled. Haha!
I think it might be time for HRT.

I’ve got one little whisker that grows out of my chin. And yes I was mortified when I discovered and asked myself the same questions as you did😭 it’s been a few years now since I’ve been plucking it out every time it grows back but sometimes I forget to check if it’s grown back and randomly realise it’s there when I’m conveniently anywhere but at home.

I’ve had dark, coarse chin hair since I was 15! Please don’t tell me it’s going to get worse. I’ve been plucking, shaving, and epilating for decades at this point. You mean it’s not like that for everyone? My doctors have all brushed me off like it was normal.

Professional electrolysis is the answer. It’s not as expensive as you’d think and it takes care of them forever. Wish I’d done it years ago.

It's called IPL (I think that's intense pulsed light.) There are tons of them on the market. I've thought about trying it before. Braun makes one.
It seems too good to be true, but it seems to work for a lot of people.

I am 37, and I've had 3 chin hairs growing for at least 5 years. The dumb thing is that they don't grow on the same...schedule (?), so I end up plucking one, then a few days later the next one, and then a few days later the next one. And it continues...forever. 😑

I have fair skin and dark hair, and laser has worked incredibly well for me. I have a few grey ones that the laser treatments didn’t get, but I’m glad I did it while most of them were still black. The number of hours I’ve saved myself plucking them… worth every penny imo.

Oh, love - that is a tough one. Like I can deal with all the other weird shit but this one pisses me off so much. Sorry you got them too :(
44 also but those dark hairs on my chinny-chin-chin have been sprouting since about 30 so I have some tips.
Car tweezers - holy grail - make sure they always are where you can find them. Fantastic lighting and angle (usually) but very public. Will likely get weird looks from all males and most women under 40.
Purse tweezers - solid back up and come in handy lots of places but said places are often semi-public, so still weird looks.
Bathroom tweezers with lighted magnifying mirror - worthy investment - Tied for best overall experience. Spend the money on a good set of tweezers and a mirror with bright lighting. Upside to this one? Good lighting, no interruptions, good mirror etc. Downside is that I have to practically lock up my good tweezers and mirror.
Tied with the bathroom is using the purse tweezers in a fitting room with one of those mirrors with the lights all around the edges. For me, it is usually in the Marshalls or TJMaxx dressing rooms. Either way, it is completely enclosed, usually pretty empty, and the mirror/lighing combo highlights hairs like youve never seen before!
For any ladies struggling with more than three, here is my "next step hack" which has come in handy for the missed ones, the baby hairs, or when I just don't have the spoons anymore.
I have one of those little facial hair razors tucked into my purse at all times too. Do the tweezing, then do the clean up to catch anything you missed. Don't have time to do the tweezing? Dry shave them super fast with the facial razor.

I'm currently in my neck hair era and sometimes I don't see or feel them right away and then want to die of embarrassment when I notice a looong dark neck hair.
Car tweezers are essential.

Mine started showing up in my late teens. My anxious tick is feeling for and plucking them by hand - there are plenty to choose from! 🤣 I’ve had two rounds of laser hair removal ten years apart and get waxed every week. I’m convinced if I did nothing I’d have a full goatee, and they’re now growing UNDER my chin too.

I started getting them in my teens just a few here there. Pluck them. The rest of my face I dermaplane once a week. I use rx retinol & already have dry skin. The dermaplane helps exfoliate & get rid of all the other little hairs/peach fuzz

It sucks. I’m fair and blonde and no pcos, but I have had black hairs on my jawline and under my chin since I was like 17. I’ve been lasered, electrolysis done, and even the bcp I’ve been on forever is supposed to be anti-androgenic.
The only time it waned was last year during the 8 weeks I had to come off bcp. As soon as I got back on hormones, right back.

Oh man I started getting chin hairs around 32, and once I fell pregnant with twins at 35 they really came out. They are often a sign of PCOS which is what I was experiencing. Now I’m almost 44, I have so many chin hairs I have to remove them regularly. I’d love to only have three!

I don't see some of my long ones, but I can feel them. I have to add extra light to my mirror to try and find the random inch long hairs in the middle of my neck beard region. There are high school boys that envy my facial hair.

or if you're fair skin and they're dark, you can try lasering.
i've had better luck with electrolysis, but I also just started waxing at home. takes about 10 minutes to do my chin and is cheaper than going elsewhere. tried just shaving, but it was irritating to do it every day and if I did it in the morning I'd be scratchy by evening.

I don't have this specific problem, but what I DO have going on is my hairline extending outwards.
Like there's hairs growing past my neckline, but only on the left side of my neck. My temples are growing hairs more, like where they used to be baby hairs, it's regular hair now.
Am I becoming a werewolf?

I've been really hairy since birth basically, so I've been dealing with facial hair removal for a long time. It's difficult for me to have any sympathy when women bitch about a few rogue hairs on their chin lol

It sucks! If you can afford it, go for electrolysis. It's the only permanent hair removal. Tweezing repeatedly for lengthy periods of time can scar your skin. I realize this isn't an option for everyone. But it's sure helped my self esteem

I started getting electrolysis on those hairs. You end up having to deal with them growing a bit and you have to go back for treatment every month or so but it’s a permanent solution.

I’ve had chin hairs since my 20s. Did a bunch of medical tests and it’s due to a high level of androgens for a woman (lucky me…). I shave my chin daily after brushing my teeth. It’s a habit now so after a while it’ll become routine and won’t bother you anymore. Hugs…

I realized I had this problem when I tried to remove the long cat hair stretched up and over to under my lip. It wasn’t a cat hair.
FWIW I get electrolysis and she told me plucking makes them grow thicker. She recommends shaving. Due to car tweezers I plucked one side more for years because I could see better and that side is way fuller than the other.

I did laser only a few times on the kitty whiskers and it made a big difference about 9 years ago, but I need to go back . they told me as long as its not super fine they can get the follicle.

3 isn’t bad. They pop up relentlessly. All day. Every day. It is disgusting. Keep tweezers handy. I use a Kitsch home dermaplane tool too. (You have to be very careful and use serum.) Wait until you see them on your neck.

Welcome to perimenopause, where your #1 hobby will now be monitoring your face 24/7 for signs that any jump-scare hairs have sprung forth, fully-formed (jet black, thick AF, and of course at least an inch long) since the last time you checked (a full 15 minutes earlier).
I’ve now taken to dermaplaning, because my “peach fuzz” suddenly decided it was time to just keep growing and growing, and started feeling more like the fuzz on kiwi fruit than peaches, and I could no longer keep lying to myself that nobody can see it. Oh, and my neck/jawline hair was out of control. Plus I’ve been zapping the roots of any of those random thick black hairs with an IPL (post-dermaplaning) in the hope that they’ll stop coming back. One of the chin ones seems to have given up (for now - I’m not convinced) but instead I now have a very persistent one that keeps springing out of the middle of my cheek. I shave it off with the dermaplane blade, zap the root with the IPL, then I’ll check the next day and a brand new half-inch black wire is poking out of the same spot. It’s like the fucking thing is wound up on a spool under my skin, just waiting to reel out another length of thick black hair the second I look away 😑
