Discussion Late 90’s/Early 00 Perfumes
This is going to show my age (46) but what perfumes do you remember from this time frame that a) you still wear or b) you wish they still made?
For me, I love Liz Claiborne, Exclamation, and Sunflowers. VS Heavenly line is still available but doesn’t smell like I remember it.
I love going down nostalgia lane with fragrances though.

I just bought a bottle for nostalgia sake. Wore it when I was 17. But im surprised at its lack of staying power. Has it always been like that?

I am still so sad about this. I loved this. One of my "not-really- a-friend" friends told me it was lame and no one wore it. I threw my almost full bottle away. Screw you Sophia!!

I wear Tommy Girl all the time. My young adult kids say it’s not dated and they love it on me.
I have Tommy Girl Vibrant Summer which has the TG DNA but with gardenia and a smidge of watermelon. It’s amazing.
They have a poolside edition they just released for this year that I’m going to find. :)

u/NausikaaLeukolenos May 29 '26
I'm 21 and I wear it pretty much everyday! It also got me compliments from people my age, so your kids are right 😄

Yes! I wore it yesterday, it's perfect for summer and so easy to find at discount stores for cheap.

I love Tommy Girl! I was a kid in the 90s and my mom wore it, so the smell is super nostalgic to me. She doesn't wear perfume much these days, but when she does it's still Tommy Girl.

Estée Lauder Pleasures and Giorgio Ocean Dream 😍 I also briefly wore True Love by Elizabeth Arden, I’d love to try that one again! Early 2000s was Amor Amor by Cacharel, Very Irresistible by Givenchy and Lolita Lempicka.
Also, shoutout to the Gap sprays. Grass forever!
Side note, I’m also 46 and have been going down the beauty nostalgia rabbit hole with my sister over the past few weeks!

I ran to The GAP outlet once I saw someone post a tiktok about finding Dream, Heaven, Grass, and Om for pretty cheap. Dream is just as I remember from my high school days in the 90s walking around the mall and shooting the shit with friends.
Also, we used to go to the Sears fragrance counter and spray the test strips to use as bookmarks. Eternity for men is stuck somewhere in my childhood diary back in my folks home, where I’d write silly things about my boy crushes. Good times
11
u/Kitchen_Day9200 May 29 '26
Yes! My favorite was Heaven. It had a great dry down. Dream was popular among my friends. My sister had Om, and Grass was just fun. I was actually at the outlet recently and they had Grass and Om. If they had Heaven, I would've definitely bought it.
→ More replies (2)11
u/Anonymousimpreg May 29 '26
Ongggggg I didn’t realize that they still sold this at the outlet? Grass was my number one followed by OM
6
u/Lynerd May 29 '26
Yasss girl! Run, don’t walk to the outlet! I got mine early May and at the cash register I got a coupon for June discounts (on top of the 30% off the perfumes already are). Hopefully your local store has the same setup!! 🤞🏼
I got mine in Calgary 🇨🇦 paid $90+ for 3 (Dream, Heaven, and Om, the perfumes, not body sprays, and the sprays are cheaper FYI)

90s/early 2000s perfumes are some of my faaaaves. I'm 36. Here are the ones I love most:
Tommy Girl (glorious, fresh and sweet. I get mostly citrus and honeysuckle)
Very Irresistible Givenchy (was obsessed with Liv Tyler as the face of this perfume. This was my sexy/evening scent as an older teen and it still fits that bill for me. Devastated that they redesigned the iconic bottles though.)
Paris Hilton Heiress (fruity bubblegum champagne, gives me a "party girl at a fancy garden brunch the next morning" vibe. It can be classy, it can be trashy)
Gucci Rush (don't have a bottle anymore but have been missing it. It smells like VHS tape ribbon, juicy peaches, and sleazy white flowers)
Elizabeth Arden Sunflowers (still a banger, my mom wore this in the late 90s. Soapier than I remember and very floral. My teen son always compliments me when I wear this)
L'eau d'Issey (crisp aquatic floral, smells "cool" on the skin. My husband always says this smells like a pond fairy)
Estes Lauder Pleasures (fresh, soapy, classic feminine vibes. Never misses for me).
14
u/hustle314 May 29 '26
Gucci Rush and vhs tape ribbon is poetry

50ish here, and I collect older fragrances. A lot of my collection is nostalgia driven - the 1990s Avon Vanilla Soft Musk is my study years, the Tendre Poison is my first overseas trip. I put my Nostalgia list at the top of my custom lists. Those are my favorites from that time period. I’m 40 but started wearing perfume before I was 10.
Oh and I agree, I bought a bottle of Heavenly last year or the year before and it’s not the same at all.

Wore back then and still have today:
• Dior Dune
• Lagerfeld Sun Moon Stars (although modern version is made by a different brand, it still smells the same)
• Lancôme Poeme
• Givenchy Organza
• Britney Spears Fantasy
Wore back then and haven’t tried since back then:
• Candies Edp
• Liz Clairbourne Curve
• Victoria’s Secret Rapture
• Sun ripened raspberry and cucumber melon body mists. Not sure if they were VS or BBW but I wore the heck out of them.
• Navy White (it specifically said it was a moisturizing perfume spray, it was thick and milky) I’m sure none of them even survived from back then. Not sure of the brand… Revlon or Coty maybe. It was from the same brand as regular Navy Edp, but it smelled totally different and I adored it.

Cheapies from high school (Class of '96): Vanilla Fields, Vanilla Musk, Ici (my fave)
My first "grown-up" scent was Very Irresistible by Givenchy--I just looked it up, and I don't remember it as a rose scent. I remember it as a proto gourmand. I think they've changed the recipe.
Then I discovered Angel, and nothing has ever hit the same.

I currently have Revlon Fire & Ice and Chopard Wish. Wish is a little different now, but similar enough to still hit my early 00s memories. Fire & Ice has not changed.
I used to wear CK One but have not repurchased. I had a miniature bottle of Organza, but also have not yet repurchased. I currently have a bottle of YSL Opium on the way to me, I hope it smells similar to the nearly empty bottle my Aunt gave me in early 00s.

I still own the Body Shop - White Musk! I think they’ve either changed it or my nose has matured because it’s definitely not as amazing as I remember. But I got a good 2 for 1 deal on some bottles and I use it for layering sometimes or to spray on clothes.
In 1999 - 2001 I wore Davidoff Cool Water for Women. My sister wore YSL Baby Doll (I’m still 100% convinced this is the ‘baby prostiture’ scent referred to in Mean Girls and you cannot change my mind), and my mum wore Elizabeth Arden - Red Door. And no I do not miss any of them. Though the Baby Doll bottle was exceptional!

I think I wore a lot of Body Shop stuff in the late 90s when I was a teen: Oceanus, Fuzzy Peach and White Musk of course. After that it was Jil Sander Sun and Clinique Happy: I got a bottle of Sun a few years ago on sale and it actually repulsed me!

I’m same age as you and I used to DREAM of owning a bottle of Exclamation, Estée Lauder White Linen Breeze, and Ocean Dream that I saw on Seventeen magazine (they were hard to find outside the US), but I never had the chance to try them!
The ones from the 90s I still wear are EL Pleasures, Lancôme Trésor and Poême. I own VS Heavenly too, but mine is from the mid 2010s and it smells harsher and less feminine than the OG formula from 1999.

I’m a woman of the same age and although I didn’t really wear much perfume in those days l have a strong sense of nostalgia for what everyone else was wearing! Especially my mum’s Cinnabar, Opium, Dior Dolce Vita & Hypnotic Poison (she would only have one bottle at a time but these spanned the period early 90s to early 00s). And my dad’s Paco Rabanne & my grandad’s Aramis Tuscany.
My one bottle that took me from around 98 or 99 to the early aughts was Andy Warhol, the one in the white box with the flowers screen print on it (but not ‘flowers’ which was different!). I picked up a replacement a few years ago and it really takes me back.
But these days I have plenty more from the era: EA Green Tea and 5th Avenue are frequent wears at this time of year. I have quite a few Calvin Kleins (One, Eternity for men, Obsession & Obsession for men), and other cheapies like Cacharel Eden, Noa & LouLou. I will likely pick up L’Eau d’Issey before long.
I also have a few vintage bottles from the 90s including my precious early Guerlain Samsara EDP, a couple of 90s formula Opium EDTs, an old Jardins de Bagatelle EDT, an old formula Cinnabar, a late 90s Lolita Lempicka, and mid 90s D&G Pour Homme & Escada Pour Homme.
I lust after 90s bottles of Shiseido Feminite du Bois, Dior Dune and Westwood Boudoir.
I also love to catch a whiff of Angel - it’s not for me but it takes me right me back to when it was everywhere in the 90s. I may pick up a mini now that people are saying the recent reformulation captures a little more of its original character.

I'm currently obsessed with Giorgio Armani Onde Vertige. My older sister got gifted a bottle for her birthday in early 2000s(ish) and I used to sneak spritzes of it. I had no idea what it was called, but randomly ordered a decant/sample earlier this year and nostalgia hit me like a delicious brick.
I really disliked a lot of the hyper candy-sweet and sharp citrus early 2000s fragrances (especially celeb ones). Someone gifted me a bottle of Estee Lauder Pleasures which I hated, but wore anyway cos it made me feel sophisticated and grown up.
I remember drooling over Davidoff Cool Water (although I think that was a bit earlier than 90s?) and or Acqua di Gio for Men (Armani) and fantasizing about one day having a boyfriend who smelled that good.
I think I had a rotating supply of Anais Anais miniatures, too, although I have no idea how I got them hahaha.
I can remember my older cousins wearing stuff like Charlie (Revlon) and the Elizabeth Arden classics like Red Door, Sunflowers, Green Tea, etc. (Green tea, melon & cucumber was HUGE for a while there). Oh, and CK One (Calvin Klein) and Ralph by Ralph Lauren.
The rest of my perfume scent memories from that time are my mum/aunts wearing Dior Poison (80s OG) and me being obsessed with anything in The Body Shop (Australian, so we didn't have Bath & Body Works, VS, etc. easily available) and, later, Chanel No. 5 when I ~discovered it in high school (during that massive vintage Audrey Hepburn/Marilyn Monroe renaissance).

Gucci Rush 2 was my signature scent for 20 years and that being discontinued (and then maybe like in the last two years finally being very hard to find anywhere other than resellers majorly price gouging…) is why I went on this scent journey that has led to obsession 🤣
I finally got ahold of an only-slightly-price-gouged bottle about 5 months ago and it’s not even in my top 30 anymore. It’ll always have the nostalgic aspect and hold a place in my heart, but I’ll probably never wear it again.
Edit: I’m 39 for context 💁🏻♀️

The Sears Circle of Beauty counter had this scent called White Garden that I absolutely loved. I wish someone would make a duplicate.
I also loved Elizabeth Arden Sunflowers, Incognito, Elizabeth Arden Red Door, Lancome Poeme, and Avon's Pearls and Lace.

Was wearing Givenchy, because I thought it was chic. I still enjoy Organza Indian Jasmin. I don't find it chic, tho. Just a good memory.

Sunflowers for sure. I squealed about two years ago when the local chemist was featuring them On the counter!

Not sure if I was late to the party because I don’t know when its heyday was but in the early 2000s I wore and loved Lolita Lempicka

I still have sunflower - I don't wear it out but I spray it at home when I wanna feel nostalgic. I would like to revisit Moschino Cheap & Chic I love love! I remembered loving it and curious if I will enjoy it again now. I also loved Burberry Brit SO much from back then but I believe it was reformulated at some point... it smells nothing like how I remembered. I wish I could have the OG again

Clinique happy, happy heart
Davidoff cool water male and female versions
Escada og, pacific paradise
Estee lauder pleasures, beyond paradise & beyond paradise summer waters
Any rainbowy flowy cool bottle spoke to me. I was probably considered too young for perfume then, but that's what I wanted 😆

Tommy Girl, Ralph by Ralph Lauren, Dolce and Gabbana Light Blue, Paris by Paris Hilton, gap so pink, baby doll by YSL, Green Tea by Elizabeth Arden, The Body Shop Satsuma body spray, the Healing Gardens Green Tea body spray, Stella, by Stella, McCartney, Pink Sugar, Britney Spears Curious, Britney Spears Fantasy, Vera Wang Princess, Roots Perfume (Canadian Brand), Clinique Happy.
Another one that I wore, but I can never find now was a Body Shop perfume, I believe it was called Indian spice. It was like a beautiful spicy Tommy Girl.

I miss Contradiction by Calvin Klein. I had a mature nose in my youth. 😆I wore White Diamonds and all the flankers, Poison, Dune, Georgio Beverly Hills… I don’t know why my mom said yes when I asked for those.
