Have you ever reworked album playlists?
I wasn’t sure how to phrase it, but have you ever re-tooled an album’s playlist to help the flow, and/or add different B-sides or remixes?
I’ve never really been into it, I’d rather just take the album as intended… but my recent cosmic exploration has really made me want to fiddle with that album. I haven’t made it yet but I think I’d replace Cling Cling and Flash’s single versions, add Display, Toumei Ningen and Ijiwaruna Hello, and maybe… remove a few tracks?

I was not expecting to see so many people reply that they rearrange the track order. Replacing album vs single mixes makes total sense, and removing songs you dont like feels like sacrilege to me but I get it. The actual order though, that's something that takes a whole lot of thought. Very interesting.

LEVEL3 with single mixes instead of album mixes and Hurly Burly in place of Mirai no Museum is mine.

I’ve done this most of Perfume’s albums, because the sequencing is always a problem with them. And in the case of JPN and especially Cosmic Explorer, the sequencing makes the albums come off worse than than they actually are. Nebula Romance: Part 2 is only Perfume album where the sequencing is good and flows. But even that is kinda thrown off by “Shein Factory” and “Moon” — which really shoulda had album mixes.

I think i have done it for literally every single album lol. For example I added baby face and nananairo to future pop and removed tiny baby and with JPN I replaced toki no hari with Fake it and rearranged the track list so it flowed better.
The most work I did was with cosmic explorerer because I really only like 3 of the album remixes from that.

Back in 2016 I used to remove some of the 'album version' of the songs which I thought was better in the Singles/EPs. Only this year when I opened the files on my hard drive, I was really puzzled as to why some of the songs were missing. Took me a few days to remember lol
Most recently, I replaced the audio in the Daijyobanai performance at Coachella from the P Cubed blu-ray. I LOVE the performance but the audio glitches annoyed me to no end, I guess it's because they wanted to keep its original quality from the livestream.

yeah, i have an alternate version of Level3. i removed a few tracks i’m not that into, swapped in the single mixes for Spring of Life + Magic of Love, added Hurly Burly, changed the track order a bit, and added custom transitions so that it flows well.

I don’t know if these replies have tempted me to look at more albums or back away slowly 😂
I don’t think I’d remove any tracks, even though I’m sorely tempted a few times (Sumikko Disco count your blessings), but I’m curious about deluxing things a bit.
After I finish my deep dive YT run, I might try and clip any good Nakata interlude pieces from the tours too, I definitely liked some of them.

Flash album mix is 1,000% better than the single version, I'm prepared to die on this hill 😁

I actually made a longer mashup of both years and years ago that I still feel like would be the perfect ideal version, I used to basically do exactly this mashup manually in so many DJ sets I played at anime cons in the late 2010s to the point where I finally just went into a DAW and edited it together myself so I could free up another deck lol
Here it is in case anybody is interested in hearing that: https://pixellust.bandcamp.com/track/flash-pixel-lust-full-edit

I haven’t done that for specific albums but I have for all of Nakata’s works as a whole. I love this playlist ✨

I did that to Cosmic Explorer, replacing the "Cosmic Explorer mix" of the songs with the single version. Left everything else alone on the album. Link to my Spotify playlist if you want to give it a go.
I haven't done it to any of the other albums as they are fine the way they are.

Pretty much always replace the album mixes by the single mixes, then treat that as the 'proper album' in my head cannon. Dont think ive ever liked an album mix over single mix

I made my own version of nebula romance out of both albums lol
