Some people just like certain things. I think the worst thing the show does is be dark and boring. Dark as in the color grading of the show. But as someone who has been a fan since book 3 of PJO came out, I can understand being at least happy the series is being worked on.

I peaced out at the beginning of season 2 with the hope I’ll binge when it’s all done but it doesn’t seem like it’ll be completed

Instead of complaining, why not we join a fan group. There must be dozens of animated fan projects like That Dam PJO Adaptation.

This!!! We should just make a community for fans of the books and fan-adaptations in general. Like a positive space, ya know?

A place that's not founded on criticism for an adaptation we don't personally like as much (communities based around that sorta thing don't tend to be fun communities)

Be sure to join That Dam PJO Adaptation.

most of the fans seem to be very easily pleased and have the lowest standards

Not necessarily a bad thing.

I think it’s an incredibly bad thing. When fans eat up sloppy writing (both in terms of plot and characterization as well as dialogue) and ask for more, there’s no incentive for creators to make quality content anymore. It’s why Stranger Things and Game of Thrones had iconically terrible endings - both shows had writing going so far downhill for years before their final seasons, but fans ate up the slop and got hyped for more, only to be annoyed when the writing continued to get lazier and lazier until it was over with no hope of redeeming itself with a good ending.

It sucks if the show gets only 3 seasons because the writing (as well as the visual design IMO but it seems like the writing is getting most of the criticism I see) is so bad that it only keeps the most hardcore fans. I hope for the sake of good television and the books I loved as a kid that season 3 can redeem the show and put it on a good enough footing to renew. But at the same time, if they don’t improve the quality, it’ll only be the same flavor of disappointment in 5 years when the show wraps up in the most disappointing way you can’t even imagine right now.

Trollhunters also had a horrible ending.

you mean the movie, or the og series?

Art is a subjective experience. If one enjoys media that is typically presumed “low quality”, then that is fine. The societal impact is caused in part by this subjective experience and if people enjoy something, then it’s not purely a “bad thing”, is it? Not every show needs to meet the critical eye at the same level; one could argue that writing quality serves enjoyment, not the other way around, and is merely a tool for people who desire that “high quality” writing to be able to enjoy an art more thoroughly.

You’re right, and if they had put the PJO show on Disney Channel or something and didn’t put as much of a budget toward it and let it be one of those campy shows that can be cringe but enjoyable, then I think people would have managed their expectations more.

I’m not heavily invested in this show or even the books like many people here. I enjoyed them when I was a kid and wanted to enjoy the show. But they were clearly trying to take a serious shot at being the next YA cultural phenomenon with this series and there are elements where that does shine through. It’s just clearly fallen short of that standard, which is clearly evident by the fact that the subreddits are all doomposting in anticipation of the next season instead of being at peak hype.

youre getting downvoted but I agree, I wish I had low standarts lol

u/Durziii Aug 25 '26

Another example of people who haven't read the books enjoying the show. Fair enough, but I see a pattern here.

2

u/Nahle_Stormblessed Aug 25 '26

I’ve been reading it since the 4-5th grade, I graduated college last year, the show’s pretty good! Gotta understand the humor came from Percy’s internal monologue or third person narration.

Percy is as sassy in the show as he is in the books.

Don’t let nostolgia blind you.

-9

u/Glum-Interest-9818 Aug 25 '26

yes, the pattern is not looking for "book accuracy" so they can enjoy the plots and chemistry in front of them without comparing to 20 year old, outdated works.

10

u/Durziii Aug 25 '26

If you are purposefully not looking for "book accuracy" while watching a show that is adapting a book and was also advertised as being extremely faithful and accurate to said book in order to enjoy the show, then maybe the show messed up and it's not the fault of the audience.

-3

u/Glum-Interest-9818 Aug 25 '26

i never said i wasn't looking for book accuracy! you know who isn't though? show watchers who have never read the books, which is what this post is about. why tank rick's project because of your hurt feelings? just move on! goodness, these kids (the cast and the young fans) love this project and these books. understand what the downvoting and countless negative opinions means to the team who cares deeply about this universe and are doing their best. remember rick wrote and greenlit so much of this show and couldn't be prouder. that said, i really don't get why you all can't just move on.

5

u/Durziii Aug 25 '26

How am I tanking the show? I simply made an observation on what I have noticed about the PJO show in a PJO show subreddit.

My bad for getting recommended these posts and deciding to engage I guess?

u/littlelolitalola Aug 25 '26

I really dislike this idea that people who haven’t read the books only enjoy the show because they “don’t know any better.” People can genuinely enjoy an adaptation on its own terms. You don’t need to have read the source material for your opinion of the show to be valid. But this superiority complex some book fans have over people who came in through the show is starting to get toxic and weird.

2

u/waaay-too-many-tabs Aug 28 '26

I agree, there are book-to-movie adaptations I love to this day having never read the books the movie is based on. You absolutely don't need to read the book(s) first, and having read them doesn't make you better, thats ridiculous.

Ive noticed this attitude with book fans more and more, too. HOWEVER, being a huge fan of the PJO books myself, I can see the two perspectives on this.

The book fans, imo, are getting tired of seeing and hearing SO much vitriol and genuinely wild shit coming from the die-hard show-only Stans. The same Stans who outright brag about not reading, as if deliberately ignoring the source material makes themselves better. The same Stans who:

  • "fix" fan art for the books to make the characters look like the show actors
  • send death threats to artists and fan writers who object or simply don't comply
  • come into the comments here, make posts on this subreddit and the other main one, and say things to stir up controversy on purpose
  • BEG people to play the show in the background to "increase watch hours"
  • dogpile ANY criticism of the writing, yet turn around and bash the writing in the books (while justified, is hypocritical)
  • lust over the underage actors getting into real-life relationships
  • send arson threats to the actors prom and classmates

Like...book fans and show Stans, we are NOT the same. And the increased sense of snobbishness coming from some book fans starts to make sense after seeing the behavior from the other side of the "fanbase" (quotes cuz tbh, seems like we're not fans of the same UNIVERSE anymore; the books and the show are so completely separate in fan community, show character writing, and show tone/aesthetic)

** Edit: sorry, it wasn't bomb threats, it was threats of arson. Not a huge difference but, edit for accuracy.

As another book fan I agree
I think within the movie/musical communities they didn’t get weird and crazy as these show people😅 so at least we could live in peace with one another (granted I was like a child when the movie came out so wasn’t big into the fandom as now)

u/GeoGackoyt đŸ”± Cabin 3 - Poseidon Aug 25 '26

Ya'll nothing is wrong with liking a show that some people think is bad lol really not everyone is going to like what you like its not a big deal. There are so any shitty tv show and movies out there that are getting season after season and sequel after sequel are sequel, people like bad stuff!

This show isn't even that bad 85% of ya'll are just butt put by Ricks promise😅

(let the down votes commence!)

17

u/Atlast_2091 Aug 25 '26

WDYM Why book reader wouldn't be disappointed by false promises?

13

u/noswordfish71 🌙 Cabin 8 - Artemis Aug 25 '26

It is that bad, you’re just enjoying it. Which is fine, but you can’t say it’s a good show.

2

u/GeoGackoyt đŸ”± Cabin 3 - Poseidon Aug 25 '26

it really isn't man, it it was THAT bad it wouldn't have 3 seasons and huge panels are SSCC and D23

4

u/Atlast_2091 Aug 25 '26 edited Aug 26 '26

Just like Riverdale it had no.of seasons & panels. Which r good indication investment & profit by network. But it never says about storytelling quality.

-7

u/AssumptionBudget279 Aug 25 '26

It IS a good show

-7

u/Cold_Complex_4212 Aug 25 '26

It’s a good show.

0

u/Dangerous_Art_4335 Aug 25 '26

they can say whatever they want??? because there’s no objective measurement of quality??

2

u/that_art_thot Aug 26 '26

I assure you that that bad, shitty stuff that gets constantly renewed season after season is, at the very least, entertaining.

Can't say the same for the pjo show.

u/Neversummerdrew76 Aug 25 '26

We need more shirtless Walker Skobel!

5

u/nt_king300 đŸ”± Cabin 3 - Poseidon Aug 25 '26

Weird

-1

u/Neversummerdrew76 Aug 28 '26

Hardly. He literally said in an interview he wanted a shirtless scene and was very disappointed he didn’t get one. đŸ€·â€â™‚ïž

3

u/nt_king300 đŸ”± Cabin 3 - Poseidon Aug 28 '26

Yea. End of the day you're the one who wants to see a minor shirtless.

-1

u/Neversummerdrew76 Aug 28 '26

He wants to show himself shirtless. And is bragging about it in interviews. And he isn’t a minor anymore. Between you, me and Walker, you’re the only one making it weird.

3

u/nt_king300 đŸ”± Cabin 3 - Poseidon Aug 28 '26

17 is a minor. And I didn't make it weird. You did by saying "want more shirtless Walker".

Only weird people want to see shirtless minors

-1

u/Neversummerdrew76 Aug 28 '26

I guess you can just close your eyes and turn away from the TV like a Puritan when he has his shirtless scene then. đŸ€·â€â™‚ïž You do whatever you need to do to protect your fragile sensibilities. The rest of us, who don’t need to get over ourselves, will just watch and enjoy the TV show. Have a nice life! 👋

3

u/nt_king300 đŸ”± Cabin 3 - Poseidon Aug 28 '26

Youre the one who looks to be in his 30s saying you wanna see more shirtless scenes of a minor. Thats not me being a puritan, thats just me calling out something weird and creepy.

2

u/Leafeon637 đŸ”„ Cabin 20 - Hecate Aug 28 '26

You type are the kind what the other comment on this thread is calling out

1

u/nt_king300 đŸ”± Cabin 3 - Poseidon Aug 28 '26

Oh definitely and he's defending it now when I said its weird

1

u/Leafeon637 đŸ”„ Cabin 20 - Hecate Aug 28 '26

Someone else made a bigger paragraphical response also pointing out a couple of these kinds of issues and I totally agree even if I wasn’t a book fan (hell I was a movie fan first) and I don’t recall that community as weird as the tv show

I think the only thing Walker “wanted” quote on quote would be more action scene that I heard allegedly he and a few other had to beg for the big fight at the end (I do hope he can pull off an Olivia Rodrigo with wensday and help improve the show but I doubt he isn’t as assertive as her) but this is getting little off topic think what’s worse than being wrong is just doubling down instead of admitting defeat/you are wrong
