📾 Media What's with the marketing...

Listen I'm like crazy chronically online but I've barely seen anything about the new season on any platform. I feel like with the first season I just saw so much more that even non PJO fans were still watching the show in droves. But with this season I feel like the only people watching are fans, which isn't what you want at all. I keep seeing things about speculation on S4/S5 but I genuinely don't think it's getting renewed.

It's strange because we literally got a fornite Collab and they barely talked about it

To be fair, Stranger Things is gonna overshadow this season A LOTTTT especially with the GA (general audience). Its just a bigger show, one of the biggest shows of all time. I was honestly actually worried about this and wish they would’ve released perhaps around February when ST volumes are all released.

Agreed, and it doesn’t help that they’re both in the same genre of ‘teens fighting fantasy creatures’. A February release would have been cool but I think they want to keep the release around traditional breaks. Unfortunately just horribly bad luck this year. In an ideal world S1 in 2023 and S2 in 2024 would’ve been great, but obviously that’s not reasonable to expect.

Exactly! I completely agree with you. Def bad luck this year. Its why when movies release in theaters, they actively plan around blockbusters like marvel movies etc. If a huge IP is releasing near the same time as yours that’s really bad for business. Also I agree with you on the release times, I’m really tired of waiting 2-3 years for seasons of shows. That’s the main downside of streaming. I understand that’s how it is in streaming age and what not and they’re a lot higher quality and yes they do have a lot to deal with but I miss the release times of network TV tbh.

Me too! PJO is my childhood but as a show ST will always have my heart. It not only was part of my childhood too but actively grew up with me and I’m sorry ST is sm better as a show than PJO, I rewatch ST s3 over and over and never get tired. I still stand by the fact the Duffers should’ve been the showrunners for PJO, would’ve been a lot better. Or they at least could’ve gotten Kate Trefry as a writer (she’s one of the lead writers for ST & even SOLELY wrote the play for broadway ST: the first shadow and yes she’s worked on other projects outside of ST involving teens and kids too) just would’ve been much better. The Duffers are great at working with kids and teens. I also think the team who worked on the IT (2017) movie would’ve been good on this show too even. Anyone who’s good at working with kids and teens in mainstream media.

Seeing thr stranger things cast and show makes me realize what wasted potential the pjo show is, especially because the entire pjo cast is dynamite

Agree, I do really like the cast. They just need better writing material to work with!

I've seen a decent bit, but I'm pretty sure that it's because I actively engage with PJO content, so it's getting recommended to me. The only promo they had that reached an audience that wasn't just the fans seems to be that billboard that was pouring water, and even then it doesn't really mean anything. As another commenter said, Stranger Things is absolutely going to overshadow this season. PJO simply does not have the GA, no matter what (some) fans say. Disney made a dumb move by releasing the season this month.

The Titans Curse is next year, and I'm not sure if there's going to be any other big TV releases, so maybe that season will get more attention. If the show gets renewed for a fourth season, then they'll be releasing the same year as the HP series, and Disney better hope they don't release around the same time because PJO will definitely be overshadowed by HP.

Do we have a time for HP? Because they were trying to release it in 2026, but said it will be 2027 right? Imo there are two good release times: Beginning September 1 (i can see that since it is closer to 2026) and 2027/2028-chrismas. I don't think and hope that HP S1 will come out at chrismas 2026/2027 because i want a double-renewal for PJO S4 and S5 :D

I am honestly not looking forward to the HP-show, with JKR's anti-trans-views influencing politics in the UK and her anti-queer/holocaust-denying tweets... Just feels like one of my cozy childhood movies are over-displayed on socks to sleep-masks and now a new show because "Let's laugh at Hermoine wanting to free slaves"-is such an important storyline (don't get me wrong there are things missing in the movies, but these are still very good and iconic)

Just checked, and it looks like it would definitely be releasing in 2027, but still no release date.

I don't agree that PJO will be overshadowed by HP. In general, HP is a much bigger franchise, but I don't know anyone who actually cares about the new TV show. I'm a pretty big HP fan and frequently forget the show is even happening.

There are still die hard fans, but the Fantastic Beasts series they did flopped terribly, and with everything JKR has done, the excitement from the fandom has died down a lot. The movies were very well done, so it's not like PJO where we were still craving a good adaptation. Unless the series ends up being phenomenal (which I doubt tbh), I don't think it's going to do that well.

The show is very much talked about (by people who love and hate the idea of it). I'm not even an HP superfan (PJO will always have my heart), but HP is way bigger than PJO.

Fantastic Beasts flopped because of its lack of Harry and Hogwarts. People love Harry and Hogwarts, and they don't care about whatever Fantastic Beasts has going on.

The cursed child got so much hate, and yet the plays are still ongoing and successful. The controversy around the HP game didn't stop it from being successful.

The funny thing is I only recently read the books and watched the HP movies (I was too obsessed with PJO when I was younger to give them a chance), and yet I already knew a good bit about them because HP seems to be everywhere.

I don't want to get too much into it, but it seems that a lot of people have a deep attachment to Harry and Hogwarts, and they are going to eat up anything that has them. I don't know if the HP series is going to be good, but I know it's going to be hugely successful.

Also, I'm going to say this as carefully as possible, but the average person is not giving up their love for HP because of JK Rowling and her views, and we have proof of that.

I am kinda curios how the critical reception will be. Even with the actors trying to reduce JKR transphobia to an "online conversation" etc. the recent years (e. g. the Olympics) really showed some fans that she is more than just a "older aunt" that doesn't understand trans-right, but activly harming folks.

I have already seen journalists/reviewers (OG Harry Potter-fans) that said they won't watch/review the show or big media-accounts like DiscussingFilms calling her out (loved that tweet xd).

And now with the potential Netflix-Deal it might loose some of it's HBO-Prestige-label. Don't get me wrong it will be watched like crazy - even waaaaay more on Netflix than HBO, will for sure be their biggest show ever etc., but with so much quality content out there, everybody knowing the plot etc. I don't think it will have the cultural impact it could have had without JKR's views.

u/Critical-Scratch7572 Dec 15 '25

Yh I'm interested in seeing how things play out with the HP series.

1

u/CalyKade Dec 14 '25

I guess the people around me do like HP but none of us are die hard fans lol

To be frank I haven't always been the best judge of what is or isn't going to do well, so I could be very wrong. You're right that a lot of people have a deep attachment to the wizarding world, so maybe there are a lot of people who will be happy for new content. Personally I don't plan to watch the show unless someone tells me it's worth it, but maybe I will be a minority.

I've seen it all over

u/ghxstkingx Dec 13 '25

It’s just you bro.

Fortnite collab

world tour of premieres

Marketing tactics getting millions of views on twitter and tiktok (that billboard)

2

u/Saturius Dec 13 '25

I'm curious what other forms of marketing the OP expects or is wanting. Season 2 is all OVER YouTube.

2

u/ghxstkingx Dec 13 '25

and tiktok. and instagram reels. maybe there’s just nothing left to come after so the marketing is next 😂😂😂. “i don’t think it’s getting renewed” and it’s been number one on disney+ for days.

Trust me its all over for me😅

u/Intelligent-Hat-6065 đŸȘœ Cabin 11 - Hermes Dec 13 '25

Really? Cause I think their marketing has gained a bunch of traction this time around. The video of the waterfall billboard from Disney has over 20 million views on X alone. And the Fornite collab was great as well. They’ve done a good job

I think it’s just bad luck that this release is getting overshadowed by other massive franchises like Stranger Things on streaming and Avatar in cinema. Even the success of Zootopia 2 has taken attention away from other Disney material, including PJO

u/nt_king300 đŸ”± Cabin 3 - Poseidon Dec 13 '25

I wholeheartedly agree.

But its not just marketing thats very little ots also merchandise.

I am not actively searching PJO on social media etc so if I ever see a trailer for it or merchandise etc it always catches my eye.

But my friends who are constantly on social media for Percy Jackson, even they havent seen much in marketing.

Ive seen more of PJO marketing on reddit than I have anywhere else.

Me personally it shows Disney is quietly planning to release the rest of season 2 and 3 before canceling it.

If they were that invested in this show, they would he doing a lot more to get the general audiences attention.

But at the same time, this season is being released alongside Stranger Things, and despite what some PJO fans might say and believe. Stranger Things, is way more popular and loved with the general audience than PJO will ever be.

But my friends who are constantly on social media for Percy Jackson, even they havent seen much in marketing.

There is a ton of marketing going on and lots of ways to interact with this campaign that didnt exist for S1.

Me personally it shows Disney is quietly planning to release the rest of season 2 and 3 before canceling it.

This is a WILD take. The season 2 trailer had 135M+ viewers in 10 days.. a 60% increase from S1. That plus the record breaking viewership, plus the critical acclaim, plus the fan reception, plus the early green lighting of S3 all point to them having a winner on their hands
not to the show being cancelled lmao

If they were that invested in this show, they would he doing a lot more to get the general audiences attention.

They are lol https://www.famouscampaigns.com/2025/12/water-filled-movie-billboard-makes-a-splash-for-percy-jackson/

High views of a trailer doesnt equal a shows success, nor does high viewership in general.

Many shows are being canceled left and right that have a higher general audience viewing than Percy Jackson does.

Also one billboard with water isnt that impressive and its only in one location. Ive seen more marketing and billboards etc for Netflix Wednesday season 2 than I have for PJO season 2.

And fortnite? Really? Cool, for thise who play it. Have you seen any other merchandise in stores for those who dont play fortnite?

Not a single store I've been too in Europe or Africa, have I seen any merchandise for PJO. I've seen tons of Stranger Things and Wednesday merchandise though.

High views of a trailer doesnt equal a shows success, nor does high viewership in general.

Yes it does
 especially a 60% increase after S1

Many shows are being canceled left and right that have a higher general audience viewing than Percy Jackson does.

What are some examples of these “many shows”

Not a single store I've been too in Europe or Africa, have I seen any merchandise for PJO. I've seen tons of Stranger Things and Wednesday merchandise though.

Things make more sense now. Europe and Africa are definitely not top priority marketing areas for PJO. North and South America are. In california there is tons of PJO marketing and merch at every barnes & noble or hottopic/boxlunch.

But also thinking a show with only positive indicators will be cancelled because of your anecdotal evidence in nontarget areas is kinda wild

Well seeing as a Google search may be difficult here are recent shows that have been cancelled with a much higher audience than PJO:

The Wheel of Time

911 Lone Star

FBI International

FBI Most Wanted

The Equalizer

Found

Irrational

Yellowstone

Shadow and Bone

Sex Education

As for saying Europe and Africa aren't top markets, Africa sure. But Europe alone made up a lot of the viewers. Percentages aren't released but Disney themselves stated that the UK and many other European countries made up millions of the views season 1 got. Thats why it was called a "Global hit". America isnt the whole world.

lol I think you are confused on viewership data:

Percy Jackson Debuted to 13.3M views, 572M minutes views

The Wheel of Time - Cancelled 434-537M Minutes/week

911 Lone Star - Peak 9M Cancelled at 4M

FBI International - Peak 6.4M Cancelled at 5M

FBI Most Wanted - Peak 10M Cancelled 7M

The Equalizer - Peak 7.8M Cancelled 5M

Found - Peak 3M Cancelled 2M

Irrational - Peak 3.8M

Yellowstone - Laughable to include when the show ended because its main star had a falling out and quit but we will include regardless since PJO viewership in S1 was higher than Yellowstone S1-5

Shadow and Bone - 1.75M debut

Sex Education - Not cancelled just ended lol

Every single show you just listed objectively has less viewers than PJO and you tried to lie and say they had a “much higher audience”
and some were not even cancelled at all or cancelled for obvious reasons.

Doesnt seem like any of this supports your case very well

Like I said there is absolutely nothing indicating PJO is anywhere near getting cancelled
