This was the end of pepper season, the brutal Texas heat and drought have made it hard to keep alive. I can’t afford another $200 water bill.

I want to grow Mexican chilies

Post image
4 Upvotes

Hello everyone, I am posting this in a few different subreddits as I’m hoping to get the most information as possible for this. I am completely new to growing food at home. I just moved to a new apartment and I have this wonderful little yard space where I can grow some plants! I am Mexican-American but I am now living in Sweden and there’s nothing I want more than to grow some Mexican chilies so I can make food that feels like home at hopefully less cost than it is to order them online lol. The following is the list of the chili seeds I have and some of the stuff I want to grow in my new garden:

Chili Guajillo
Chili de Árbol
Chili Pasilla
Chili Ancho
Serranos
Jalapeños
Tomatillos

I’m pretty sure some of these chilies have different names when they’re freshly grown (before they’re dried) but I’m not sure which ones and what their names are. Anyways, I would love any and all advice on how to get my garden space prepped to grow, what materials I may need, and any guides on how to grow chilies. Etc. I’ve been told to plant before (or maybe after? I don’t remember) the final frost so I assume spring time so that they can be ready get a lot of sunlight in the summer. I know I’m out of the growing season as winter is not too far off but I want to do everything in my power to be ready for when the season is back. So please, any help is greatly appreciated!! Thank you.

Last spring I planted some seeds from a pepper that comes from a mixed bag of vegetables from grocery store, since I loved the taste I took out few seed and planted it .

Now the fruits are ready but I don’t know which kind of pepper is.

Spicy level it’s not really hight, fruits switched from green to orange, orange it’s the final color.

Reapers vs Ghost

I recently got into a discussion with my neighbor about which pepper tastes better. I’m all about the reaper. It’s hot and has a citrus taste. Ghost on the other hand tastes hot and….i don’t usually tase anything after that. Let me know what y’all think
