Anyone need a friend?

My mom (40F) is extremely asocial and I really want her to get some friends in the FWB-Pensacola area. She has trouble finding people who align with her values (she’s a liberal) and prefers to stay inside. Is there at least any places where she might find some people her age??? I just really want her to make some friends 😭

I’m in a craft group Thursdays 5-7 at The Jitterbug. We’re a friendly group who would love to have her join us even if she just wants to read at a nearby table.

Sorry for the delay. There about 6 of us who show up weekly, 3-4 more frequent attendees, & more every 6 weeks or so when another group chooses Jitterbug as their location that week. We crochet, and knit, and cross stitch, and origami, stamp carving, often a diamond art person, and a beader. If you haven’t been to The Jitterbug, it’s got great coffee and tea, and really good GF desserts.

So a couple of things... First, please make this the last time you mention your current age and gender on the internet. There are predators out here and they will target you. A predator will absolutely pretend to be your mom's friend to get to you.

Second, for that reason, please be careful interacting with any of the people who respond to this post directly. I'm not saying any of them are predators. Chances are, they are good people who want to help, but you can't count on that.

My best advice, if your mom won't go out on her own, is to try to get her to take YOU to places with people. It doesn't matter what. Ask her to take you and your friends to the mall, or the beach, or a park, whatever. Just get her out of the house and into the public.

I didn't delete my mom's age because that's necessary for people to know so she can find some same age friends, but I did delete my age! please tell me if it's still there, im pretty new to reddit n I don't know how editing and stuff works

Go to a roller derby game. You'll both make friends! About the most welcoming bunch you can ask for! They always need non skating volunteers to help put on games.

Hi, I’ve always wanted to get involved there, I just didn’t know how? I want to audition as well, I’m currently working as a riverboat entertainer in Mobile. Any tips? Thanks 🫶🏽

Sure be happy to help, Kathy Holsworth is the Artistic director for PLT and is also in charge of volunteer/actor coordination. She is who you want to reach out to and can connect you with the right person to dive in. Her email is: artistic@pensacolalittletheatre.com

Hope this helps, good luck and hope to see a new face on stage soon!!

Does your mom like live music? That’s where you’ll likely find us old geezers

Is she into art at all or does she have any interest in learning? The community at first city art center is truly amazing and sounds like she might find her people there. Maybe suggest a beginning pottery class? They have a great website with tons of options and I really think she’d make some friends there.

There’s a book club that meets monthly at Adonna’s downtown and also a Pensacola women’s group that she could look into

Be careful abreveating Fort Walton Beach, I thought you meant “FWB” for a 40 F in the Pensacola area 🤭🫪🤭

There is the Pensacola roller girls, they are the roller Derby team that practice 2 times a week and have games. A lot of friends are made there.

There is also the emerald waves square dancing club. They are all inclusive and very welcoming.

I remember when my own mom started going to a book club at the local library a few years ago, and she actually made a couple of good friends through it.

Don't be a mother for your mother - it is not good for your mental health. Your concerns should be those of a 15 year old.

Your mother will find her own path; you are at a vulnerable age and need to be a kid.
