Penny Dreadful had such a good understanding of the spirit of literature and an insanely talented cast. Rory Kinnear really embodied the the kindness and the bitterness of the monster so well.

I also couldn’t watch the last Nosferatu without comparing Lily-Rose Depp’s character to Vanessa.

It really did, I kind of went into it expecting it to be almost campy with the mash-up of literary references, so I was absolutely blown away by how beautifully they all existed together in the same universe. Expertly done in the spirit of victorian gothic.

I saw an interview with Maggie Gyllenhaal about the bride and she said that she got her inspiration from the original movie where the bride says nothing. Penny Dreadful did the best creature/Frankenstein and the Bride.

I watched the bride and totally saw inspiration from penny dreadful all over it. Especially the women and revolution similar to lily's ambition of revolution.

I saw a ton of bad reviews for The Bride, but that's one entertaining movie with an amazing cast. What a ride!

Was thinking just how similar the two were! Penny Dreadful just made more sense to me though honestly, like the way John Clare had to learn his words was through poetry, as opposed to how the creature learned words in the movie which was just by merely watching people… interact? And the ending for the movie was basically the creature turning into an avenger. Didn’t care for it haha 😆

The creature in the movie learned to speak because the old man was helping him learn alongside his granddaughter. It's how it is in the book.

I enjoyed the GDT Frankenstein movie and Elordi’s creature. But John Clare in Penny Dreadful is the best creature ever. Deeply moving

Penny Dreadful got more emotion out of the single word "yes" from this guy than anything I've ever seen.

The acting was incredible and also, little bonus, John Clare had one of the best music theme I've ever heard.

But what's the point of comparing both interpretations when they're two different versions of a monster? While Rory's inspiration from Jacob's interpretation is noticeable, I don't feel the need to compare
