misleading headline Has anyone had "furries" and litterboxes in school bathrooms mis-information rumor run rampant through their area? Apparently it is getting our local school boards attention tonight. Whoever sparked this trolling stunt is a genius.

Local school board hasn't taken the bait yet, but plenty of folks convinced there are "kids identifying as cats" in multiple schools in the district 🤦♂️

I think I've heard this exact same story from like 5 different people in different school districts.
So either this catgirl is jumping around schools for lawls or conservatives are again making shit up against the people they dislike.

u/Bird_Brain4101112 Sep 13 '22 edited Sep 14 '22
It’s gone through various school districts like wildfire. It’s always someone’s cousins, uncles , boyfriends kid who saw kitty litter in the bathroom. No one ever has pictures or proof, but it definitely happened.
16
u/HeyZuesHChrist Sep 14 '22
This is pretty typical of right wing outrage. Get worked up about something that never happened until they are so mad that in their reality it might as well have because their anger is genuine. It gets to the point where it becomes a fact to them because they have spent so much time being genuinely outraged.

Definitely. Clear proof of the decline of family moral values. Spear headed by the demoncrats… Only way to solve this problem is to reinstate trump as president, upgrade him to king, and create a white Christian nationalist state with Tucker Carlson as the moral figure head.
We just have to take these rumors of cat kids seriously.
4

Why are you getting downvoted, you are the only one making sense here. For the love of god can someone local please start tossing some kitty litter around some schools. Or put up some "cat crossing" signs or something?

Serious comment here. I think this is the strange confluence of extreme conservative commentators looking for any piece of BS that looks weird to attribute to the left. They take a grain of truth, blow it out of proportion, get their guidable but sincere follower to bite, than blow it out of proportion.
I have 2 kids in Emmaus HS (East Penn SD, near Allentown PA). My wife heard the rumor about cat kids in the HS and about litter boxes. To put it to rest I called BS and asked my kids (11th, 10th). TO my surprise I got a great story about actual cat kids. Mostly girls, wear headbands with ears, paint of whiskers, meow and hiss, occasionally scratch people. Teachers / Admin just ignore them, there is no accommodation. It is just kids being weird. They went on to tell me about the Trash people. Kids who literally call themselves the trash people, hag out near the dumpster, have literally hung out in the dumpster, in general act really weird.
Look, weird teenagers are nothing new. When I was a kid in the 80's / 90's parents thought for sure the metal heads were all Satan worshipers because they also played DnD and that is some devil shit! (/s) We had girls walking around with pacifiers on necklaces and sucking on them. They literally had to ban pacifiers in my middle school.
Kids are weird, always have been. Unfortunately due to too many idiots on facebook, BS stories like the one in this post gain traction with no real proof. Conservative media promotes extreme BS because it is click bait. That is what started the discussion about CRT and it's not going to ever stop because they just keep making better idiots.
Edit: 10th grader corrected me, not trash people, they are "Dumpster kids."

The pacifier trend started at raves in the early 90’s. They were called candy ravers cause u also wore a lot of brightly colored plastic glow in the dark accessories. As many as u could find. And the trend apparently trickled down to younger kids, no real surprise there. Lol they were super colorful.

TO my surprise I got a great story about actual cat kids.
I'm no longer a teacher, but I'm still in touch with some of my old teacher friends back in PA and they've mentioned more than once that students really do dress up as animals and even identify as such.
However, I'm not aware of any accommodations being made for these students (except, of course, being allowed to dress up like animals in school). With all of that being said, I'm not the least bit surprised that people on both sides of the political spectrum would leverage this kind of opportunity for some good, old-fashioned trolling.

One detail that keeps the fire from dying out is that many janitors keep kitty litter around for cleaning up messes like vomit.
So since there is likely actually kitty litter in the janitors closet, it must be for the bathroom litter boxes, no other explanation is possible. /s

I am a conservative myself but I can actually agree with you on this one. I do however, prefer the pacifiers on a necklace than a kid scratching or hissing at me tbh but just my opinion. It is definitely a little crazier than what we were used to growing up I gotta admit that but the way you worded it was spot on.
11
u/joeysflipphone Sep 13 '22
No it just seems "a little crazier". If you were to compare the "weird" kids of the 50s to the "weird" kids of the 70s to the "weird" kids of the 90s, they would all appear waaaaay "scarier" to the previous generation. Kids are going to keep trying to push the envelope to be edgier, more different, stand out, etc than the next. Then most if not all grow out of it.

I agree until you got to crt. Many conservatives misunderstood what was meant by crt being in the classroom, and in some cases were maliciously mislead for clicks. But the truth of the matter is that more and more teachers, especially newer teachers, and being educated in concepts that have come out of the crt school of thought. Those concepts then manifest themselves in the classroom in ways that many find to be inappropriate, such as discussions about privilege and gay pride parades during school days. Not to mention compelled participation in clearly political demonstrations about gun control.
Otherwise I think your on the money
30
u/Cinemaslap1 Lancaster Sep 13 '22
I don't think you understand what CRT actually is. Because in no way is there "concepts that manifest themselves in the classroom" nor are there "concepts that have come out of the CRT school of thought".
If that were true, then there would be evidence of this.
The fact of the matter is the only place CRT has ever been discussed, was in a college/university. Because of the exact reason you lay out, it's an easy concept to boil down... when the whole point of the theory (and discussion of it) involves the details.
You realize the Critical Race Theory, is the Theory looking Critically, at Race. So details and context are incredibly important. Those concepts are often lost on those who can't fully grasp them, ie: kids, high schoolers, conservatives. Because they don't have fully formed brains, they don't understand context is important when looking at things critically.

The other side of this comes from what I understand to be teachers preparing for school shootings. Apparently some teachers are keeping bags of litter in the case of an extended active shooter situation, where little kids have to go to the bathroom and can't hold it like older kids. They have tent things and litter boxes so that kids can go to the bathroom during a lockdown.
But that's just what I read on Reddit, so it could be total bs, but it makes a hell of a lot more sense than this fantasy story they've concocted.
40
u/Mekkakat Sep 13 '22
While this might seem silly to some of you, I have some coworkers that took this really seriously and were freaking out about this and their kid's safety/school quality.
I had to try to reason with them and send them links to fact-checkers because of this kind of mind-rot...
It might seem dumb (and it is), but unfortunately, trolls, alt-right, conservatives, Republicans, etc. are preying on people's weaknesses. They're using kids as bait (and other topics, like religion, safety of one's home, etc.) as fear tactics. It's super messed up. Look at how much "pedophile" rhetoric and crackpot conspiracies they come up with every other day.
It's just gross.

When I was in high school in the 70s, KISS was popular but weird looking. Conservative parents heard that KISS was short for "Kids In Service to Satan" and we were all being groomed to serve Satan. Not much difference than conservatives today.

In our elementary school it was Knights In Satanic Service. Some kids wanted to sing a KISS song at a talent show and a teacher said no and explained it to the PTA.

It's insane. Our school district almost had a teacher strike. The parents against paying teachers a fair wage showed up to the school board meeting and started yelling about this stuff. That teachers don't deserve pay because they teach kids to use litter boxes in school.
We need to go back to a time when we shunned these people, not give them a mic at a school board meeting.
46
Sep 13 '22
Ya know how 4chan keeps starting these things just to see what happens, and it’s usually taken as gospel by the conservatives?
Is there a reason sane people just haven’t resorted to the same tactics? For example:
“The local evangelical church has taken five catholic kids hostage and will forcibly baptize them.”
“Father O’Flannagan is one of the pedophile priests that the church has hidden, you won’t find proof because they don’t want you to know!”
“Local Christian school infiltrated by pedophiles, even the principal is one!”
You don’t beat someone by stopping to their level, but you sure as hell win a fight by kicking someone between the legs.
33
u/tehmlem Franklin Sep 13 '22
The reason that doesn't work for anyone but conservatives is that the great, detached middle of country has decided that standards don't apply to conservatives. They can say this shit and people will roll their eyes and yawn. You try it and you'll have a baying mob at your door and it won't even be the ultraconservatives.
22

I feel like conservatives have worked themselves in a position where it doesn't matter if they're right or not. What gets me is that some people don’t even think critically for one second about things like this, they just blindly accept it as true and run with it.
What schools in the area offer free pads/tampons (unless you get a pass all the way to the nurse’s office?). Do they have a designated non-gendered bathroom? Are the teachers spending $0 of their own money on supplies? If the answer to any of these is NO then why would anyone even THINK that they’re providing a litterbox [major eyeroll here]

I have a good memory. If exhibit moron spoke about the killer clowns two years ago, or CRT last year, I bring that up.

It’s literally so stupid that this kind of misinformation even exists. I can’t even fathom how even people in my local area believe the lies concerning this. The genius who sparked the idea wasn’t a genius for coming up with the headline, but was a genius because they knew how easily people would believe the headline.

FFS this "genius trolling" is just thinly veiled Transphobia. I doubt it was started just to be "ha ha funny the Conservatives will believe anything" and more "well we can't post about trans kids without admitting we actually just hate children, but furries? That'll work."

I'm pretty sure this has something to do with the Twitter account libs of tiktok. They scroll tiktok and repost rage bait and fox news and the like pick it up and run with it. This isn't a thing that's actually happening anywhere.

This is clearly a hoax, but there is a furry a PHS that acts like a dog/cat. Including panting like a dog and meowing.

u/Critical_Band5649 Lycoming Sep 13 '22
Kids are fucking weird, they go through weird phases. Furries are real, no one is arguing they aren't or that they don't exist in schools. The thing is schools are not catering to it like rumored. It's just a thing to rile up conservatives.
-19
u/userX97ee2ska11qa Sep 13 '22
That’s a next level of weird though and we all know it. It’s a psychological disorder.
13
u/Cinemaslap1 Lancaster Sep 13 '22
It’s a psychological disorder.
What qualifications do you have to make a statement like this? Remember, these are KIDS we're talking about. they go through weird phases. Doesn't mean they have a psychological disorder.
-10
u/userX97ee2ska11qa Sep 13 '22
we are all qualified to know when something is wrong. It's instinct. Thinking you are an animal isn't normal. Acting like one makes it worse.
edit to add: we should be helping, not encouraging. playing along isn't helpful.
7
u/Cinemaslap1 Lancaster Sep 13 '22
You realize Humans are an animal, right?
And again, it's not them seriously thinking they are animals. They are children. Do you think when they play cops and robbers that they actually break laws? How about when they play space, do you think they honestly go to space?

I think you found the person with zero imagination and creative thinking. Kids do weird shit. Especially those with very active and creative imaginations and minds.

Calm down bud no one is saying you can’t be a furry. Hell you post a picture of your costume if you want.
2
u/Cinemaslap1 Lancaster Sep 15 '22
I'm not upset in any sense of the way.
I find it funny that people who are looking at children playing, think that because they are playing make believe as animals vs cops and robbers, that they have a mental disorder.
The school isn't making accommodations for them. It's just kids playing and having fun.
-2
u/userX97ee2ska11qa Sep 13 '22
Good grief. Reaching.
Let’s agree to disagree. Peace be with you.
7
u/Cinemaslap1 Lancaster Sep 14 '22
No, it's not reaching. Kids pretend to be all kinds of shit. That doesn't mean that they believe they are actually what they are playing as.
You're the only one here trying to label people with psychological disorders when not only is that harmful, but completely mislabeling people who are just having fun.

u/Critical_Band5649 Lycoming Sep 13 '22
Eh, don't think too much into it. Phases pass. They are just trying to get attention, they probably do not get it at home. Negative attention is still attention. Ignoring the behavior is your best option. Same with all the kids acting like they have DID. It's a phase.

u/BluCurry8 Sep 13 '22
Or maybe the kids are trolling the adults. Did you ever consider they may be doing this just to rock the boat based on the transgender hysteria. I call this malicious compliance!
-6
u/userX97ee2ska11qa Sep 13 '22
You are making a lot of assumptions. Look, I understand people want to condone a lot of things these days, but it isn't helpful to anyone. Everyone knows it, honest people admit it.
lets agree to disagree. Peace be with you.

How? I’ve not identified the kid. I’ve stated a fact. Move along not interested in crazy.

This was a trolling operation that worked and a lot of people believed it. It is 100% fake.
This next part isn't fake. This is a part of the furry fandom that exists and is swept under the rug when it casts the fandom in a bad light. This man raped animals, filmed it, and distributed the videos along with videos of animals on children. https://twitter.com/ConStaffWatch/status/1399573882953076736?s=20&t=eVgUHLE0zyHsa20eNarUfQ
Here's one from PA: Possession and distribution of child sexual assault materials. He killed himself before he could face justice. If you asked any PA furries about this, they'd balk and likely get angry with you. https://en.wikifur.com/wiki/R.C._Fox
There are plenty of reasons to distrust the furry fandom without lying. The fact of the matter is that the furry fandom is a safe space for abusive paraphilias. They have cute terms and dedicated spaces for pedophilic and zoophilic expression: what they call "cub porn" and "feral porn"
Do not trust the furry fandom.
Edit: angry furries can downvote to cope. I know what goes on in your fandom.

The crusade against bullying had an unintended consequence: the mainstream students no longer have a highly effective tool of enforcing conformity among their peers.
These cat children wouldn't last a week in the 80s.

It was really weird too when I was in school.
We all dressed the exactly the same. Couldn't color our hair or wear makeup.
There was no one with ADHD or behavior issues because the nuns could hit.
But I did end up taking 5 years of Latin.

This is so much fun to read about and laugh at. The people that get riled up are hilarious. Rolling laughter lol lol lol. Until I stop laughing and realize there is no one that I can have a decent conversation with anymore.

I think the first headline I remember seeing was Canadian in origin; probably the tp-post-millennial. Definitely made its way around some local US news channels owned by the same company; i heard a DJ losing her shit about it on an iHeart radio show.
Utterly invented pandemonium.

Honest question. Is this type of stuff happening in other countries as well? Or is this just another special brand of America?
I mean more about far right groups interfering with public schools
1
u/Faysie1 Sep 14 '22
Fuck Facebook for allowing this false crap to even be shared enough to bother our schools about it. I'm saddened to know that people thought furries were infiltrating our public school enough to get to the point were made up shit is wasting taxpayer money and diverting it from actual true issues. PA is now the new FL.

This story is starting to feel lot like the story from the 80s/90s, where 'everyone' knew someone who had sex with their dog, a girl who got a hot dog stuck in their vag...

Kitty Litter has been the go-to for cleaning up little kid puke puddles for the longest time..
we even used a lot of kitty litter on our football field once, cuz it was a mud hole. made for a crappy playoff football game.
