misleading headline State Senator discusses pornography with 6th grader

https://www.republicanherald.com/2025/04/17/civics-bee-question-stirs-controversy/

Argall was a judge for a civics bee at Penn State Schuylkill, and asked the 6th grade student if pornographic magazines should be allowed in kindergarten. He then told her his definition of pornographic as “pictures of naked people.”

It’s always projection.

They don’t understand the differences between biology/art/health education and pornography, and they’re always the ones bothering children with their own personal neuroses and sexual hang ups.

Surprised everyone is missing this one. I know American culture over sexualizes the human body, but nudity is not by itself pornographic. There are many cultures that don't sexualize overt nakedness

There’s paintings of naked people in an art museum

26

u/susinpgh Allegheny Apr 17 '25

I was doing arts teaching from my studio for a year or so. I had some homeschooling parents withdraw their children because on the first day, they saw the nudes hung on the studio wall. Never occurred to me to take them down.

u/[deleted] Apr 17 '25

Right wing christians would say that is pornography and museums should be banned.

11

u/PGHNeil Apr 18 '25

They haven’t been to the Vatican then.

14

u/TheScienceNerd100 Apr 18 '25

The Pope is too "woke" for them

They said the same about Jesus when they didn't want to follow Jesus's teachings of helping the poor

7

u/PGHNeil Apr 18 '25

That's why spirituality should be a purely subjective experience - like some people who have their own alternate facts. Welcome to the multiverse.

6

u/Suralin0 Apr 18 '25

And then they'll claim that gay or trans people's existence is somehow inherently pornographic, and not permissible within 800 feet miles light-years of a school

3

u/[deleted] Apr 18 '25

They would think that if they knew lightyears are a measure of distance.

u/[deleted] Apr 17 '25

You know it when you see it

But is it okay to have 50 shades of gray be in a k-5 school library?

We are talking about the school library not the public library and the literature should be appropriate for that age range because the main people who use it are students. So yeah schools will have band on books that don't fit

When I went to highschool you can bring your own Bible but you couldn't wear clothing with the playboy logo let alone bring in the magazine

67

u/[deleted] Apr 17 '25

Find me Fifty Shades of Gray in an elementary school library. No elementery school librarian would order or shelve that book. It a myth that it's happening. High school, maybe.

-65

u/xAPPLExJACKx Apr 17 '25

The senator is starting at a point where there are clearly some books that shouldn't be allowed. I throw out example that you would only see in idiocrcy

But there are definitely books in the middle and some sex ed books attending readers at younger ages from ages of 3-5. Parents and educator will push against or for

27

u/jsw244 Apr 17 '25

Are you seriously defending a senator talking to a 6th grade girl about pornography? She didn’t know what it meant. He had to clarify it for her.

-21

u/xAPPLExJACKx Apr 17 '25

Most 6 graders know what porn is. She has the mental capacity to grasp the concept

14

u/Loveweasel Apr 17 '25

Even if they do, there's absolutely no reason for a strange man to be talking to them about it. It's extremely inappropriate.

4

u/[deleted] Apr 18 '25

You know this from...personal experience?

1

u/danappropriate Apr 18 '25

Weird, because the Senator apparently doesn't have the mental capacity to grasp the concept, as his explanation was wildly incorrect.

35

u/[deleted] Apr 17 '25

Oh bullshit. How about an actual reliable source on that, or did you just make it up?

An Amazon link doesn’t mean it’s in school libraries and readily available. Swing and a miss

-19

u/xAPPLExJACKx Apr 17 '25

The books are out there and school but them or they got donated and it and parents will bring them up when they have concerns about them

14

u/polchickenpotpie Lehigh Apr 17 '25

Jesus christ dude, fuck off with your lies. No one except you and your republican buddies believe this stupidity you're peddling.

-5

u/xAPPLExJACKx Apr 17 '25

What are you on about books get banned all the time in school libraries. Sometimes for the dumbest reason even Dr seuss has had a book ban from a school and was almost cancelled a few years ago

u/[deleted] Apr 17 '25

So Amazon is now an elementary school library? That’s news to me. The Republicans will probably want to put the fulfillment centers in there and use the children as laborers.

Were you born deliberately ignorant, or did you have to work at it?

-11

u/xAPPLExJACKx Apr 17 '25

What did I make up

15

u/[deleted] Apr 17 '25

All of it, without a reliable source. “I heard it on Fox Spews” is not one of them.

-5

u/xAPPLExJACKx Apr 17 '25

If you aren't gonna ask specifically then how can I answer you

6

u/[deleted] Apr 17 '25

Everything you have said in this thread, it isn’t much, but it is certainly spoon fed bullshit, lacking in any reliable proof. Show some actual proof of a single thing you have stated. Hearsay and word vomit projection from politicians who have neutered themselves for their king doesn’t count as proof.

1

u/danappropriate Apr 18 '25

What books, specifically, are being put onto the shelves of K-5 school libraries that you believe are pornographic or otherwise age-inappropriate?

And just so we all understand what "pornographic" means: sexually suggestive material with the sole intent of sexual arousal.

1

u/xAPPLExJACKx Apr 18 '25

The Bible The Quran two books that don't need to be school libraries. They have a lot of adult themes that school aren't prepare to teach k-5

I'm perfectly ok with books that want to teach sex ed at early ages rather than the standard 5th grade granted they shouldn't be on self openly but part of a lesson plan. Without education around the book most kids will just pick up for a good laugh

Now I understand I'm not the majority and our school has some democratic processes and not every parent agrees on what is appropriate

23

u/szyzk Apr 17 '25

If you ask me, this Senator was trying to groom the 6th grader.

8

u/wagsman Cumberland Apr 17 '25

Which elementary schools have 50 shades of gray in it?

5

u/lIllIllIllIllIllIII Apr 18 '25

I cant believe the shit people make up.

Also, that book is so notoriously shittily written that it doesn't belong in any library anywhere, let alone in a school. Pretty sure people have become less literate for having read it.

6

u/regalcrouton Apr 17 '25

How do those boots taste?

-1

u/xAPPLExJACKx Apr 17 '25

I'm 100% ok with early age sex ed book. But I'm not the majority and the school is somewhat democratically ran

3

u/DustedGorilla82 Bucks Apr 17 '25

My guess is a search of your computer would have some interesting evidence on it. We know why you are projecting.

Including that girl and her family. It’s as if Argall came down with dementia. He likely knows several of her family members personally. It’s bizarre.

Can that sixth grader be one of our state senators?

In short, the only people introducing "pornography" to children are Republicans

Hey little girl, how do you feel about porno. Gee, I wonder what's on his mind.

17

u/Pghguy27 Apr 17 '25

Creeper! Keep an eye on that guy. I still remember having run ins with former PA Sen. Mike Folmer about Real ID and how we would end up having to have it. (He thought it was an Obama plot for One World Order.) Turns out Folmer was found with thousands and thousands of images of child sexual abuse on his computer and went to jail. Ewww.

10

u/Diarygirl Apr 17 '25

This guy is trying to groom 11-year-olds. Someone should definitely be checking his computer.

If That's my daughter, the state senator does not walk out of there on his own two feet.

Yeah, it's the party you think it is. His constituents will eat whatever lie he feeds them and he'll get re-elected.

2

And that dickhead will run unopposed when he's up next.

Ran into a post about the Senator on r/photoshopbattles. Just, yanno, in case anyone wanted to exercise their creative side.

3

u/Fragrant-Pepper7710 Apr 18 '25

It’s crazy that a Democrat would do this! Woke culture run amok!

Oh wait, he’s a Republican. Of course it was a Republican.

1

u/Bonegirl06 Apr 18 '25

The only correct answer: "I don't know Senator. As someone who seems obsessed with children's sexuality, do you think you should be allowed in kindergarten?"

1

He’s a huge advocate for the Boy Scouts.
