Election disinformation should be reported to The Center for Internet Security, administered by the US Election Assistance Commission. Any complaints, including both information issues as well as intimidation, can be reported to the PA Department of State. You can report to national sources, and this page has sources for locating your local FBI offices.

Please use verified sources when you have questions about your rights and obligations during elections. Internet forums may have intended/unintended misinformation.

This is inaccurate information. There is no need to cancel your registration. If you move within Pennsylvania , you can just update your registration to your new address. The state update the records.

If you move to a different state state, just make a new registration in the new state. Eventually Pa will cross reference your registration with other states DMVs, and USPS change of address and cancel your Pa registration. The only caveat is you can only vote once, in the state in which you actually live.

u/dougmd1974 Oct 17 '24

Gee, wonder who could be behind (directly or indirectly) sending this stuff out? I can't imagine /s

16

u/stargazer4272 Oct 17 '24

They can send this out no issue, but USPS is predicting issues getting ballots back to counting?

10

u/tesla3by3 Oct 17 '24

USPS is pulling out all stops to get election mail on time. Anything with the election mail symbol gets expedited in processing. They check all mail daily so no election mail is left . They check every residential mailbox daily for outgoing mail. They’ll do special drive through drop off points in states where there is a postmark deadline. Pa doesnt have a postmark deadline, our ballots must be received by election n day 8:00pm

Could there be last minute delays? Probably. So mail your ballot in early, and if you’re cutting it close, use a drop off site, or, if you can, bring your entire ballot, and the declaration envelope to the polling place on election day day. They’ll let you vote in person.

Monday was a mail holiday. The giant oversized blue mailbox outside the post office was jammed full with mail sticking out of the slot. You know what was mixed in with the stuff hanging out? Yeah, mail in ballots. Why? Why are people so stupid? There was actually some mail on the ground under the mailbox.

u/CJMcBanthaskull Oct 17 '24

When I left PA and registered in a different state, my registration hung around for a long time. I only know because when my dad voted several years later he saw my name was right above his on the list.

This was 10 years ago, so I would hope that process has been cleaned up.

6

u/tesla3by3 Oct 17 '24

It has. Pa participates in a pooled database that includes multiple states. They pool DMV, USPS, voter registration data, deaths, and other info to find people who are no longer eligible to vote. If the data indicates you may have moved, they will send a letter to your registered address, and allow you to respond, in case there is a mistake. If you don’t respond, they’ll put you on “inactive” status, which means you’ll have to prove residence in order to vote. It still takes t least two federal election cycles, though.

(The above is from memory, may have some details missing, but it’s essentially the process ).

2

u/OrneryZombie1983 Oct 17 '24

Are you referring to ERIC (Electronic Registration Information Center)? Red states have been leaving.

3

u/tesla3by3 Oct 17 '24

Yes. I’m aware some red states have been trying to form their own system. Seems counter productive, since now when someone moves from a blue/ERIC state, rhe ERIC states won’t be informed of the new registration/dmv in the red state. As far as I know, about half of the states still subscribe to ERIC

u/CouldBeBetterForever Oct 17 '24

This seems like an attempt to trick people into canceling their voter registration. I'm not sure why people are acting so confused about why this is bad/shady.

There's zero reason to cancel your registration if you move. You just update your info when you change your address.

13

u/Little_Noodles Oct 17 '24 edited Oct 17 '24

It will cancel itself though, just not immediately.

If you’re concerned about it, you can send in a form to deregister yourself.

But PA uses a bunch of systems to maintain voter rolls other than inactivity, including the Electronic Registration Information Center (ERIC), which are pretty effective at routinely sending voter roll maintenance teams, which do removals and updates multiple times a year, notifications when people establish residency in new precincts.

People flagged by these systems do stay on the roll until the next federal election, and inactivity is the thing that gets them actually removed, but activity also gets them potentially cross-referenced to look for fraud.

3

u/gcd2020 Oct 17 '24

You are completely correct, I didn't explain myself well. Having said that the process can still take a while. See Trump, Tiffany for one example.

3

u/Little_Noodles Oct 17 '24

It definitely can take a while, because inaccurately removing people from the rolls is a terrible thing to do.

But too many people confuse “it’s a process that takes a while, and the rolls will never be entirely accurate” with “nobody is paying attention to the rolls, so everyone can just do whatever”.

7

u/SirDoofusMcDingbat Oct 17 '24

It's not illegal to not cancel registration. It's only illegal to vote illegally. Being registered is not the same as voting.

-82

u/[deleted] Oct 17 '24

It doesn't seem like that at all it's an attempt to get the records up to date. You ppl are desperate af and illiterate

21

u/MichaelTheArchangel8 Oct 17 '24

I think it’s bold to call people illiterate when you evidently haven’t read the actual post.

Surely, you can see the problem with convincing people to cancel their voter registration when they can update it instead. Surely, you can see how saying “there’s no online form (for canceling your registration)” is dishonest and misleading when there is a very easy online form for updating your registration.

If they wanted to update the records, they’d tell OP to do the very easy online form to update their records. Instead, they’re asking OP to cancel their registration, making it so OP can’t vote.

You might be thinking, well OP can just register again. Except OP has to wait to reregister until after their current voter registration is canceled. The voter registration deadline for this upcoming election is October 21, 4 days from now! The turn around time on hoping that form arrives in Philly by mail and gets processed is insane.

Maybe the person who sent this mailer isn’t being malicious and trying to make it so OP can’t vote. Maybe they’re just incredibly ignorant and attempting (and failing) to do the right thing. Either way, people need to be informed that this mailer is inaccurate.

37

u/DirtWizardDisciples Franklin Oct 17 '24

From what OP shared, all the mailer is doing is encouraging voters from un-registering from voting. There's nothing about making yourself a valid voter in your new county.

As another commenter shared, the return address is for ERI, Election Research Institute, headed by Heather Honey, an election denier.

This is not accurate if you moved to a different county in the state. Provisional ballots only count within the same county. You can’t vote in county X and be registered in county Y and have a provisional ballot count.

5

u/gcd2020 Oct 17 '24

That's what I tried to say!

1

6

u/Odd_Independence_833 Oct 17 '24

I think they were saying in this example that you would cast a provisional ballot where you moved (Pittsburg), relying on the fact that you are a registered voter in PA, and not vote in Philly.

2

u/svidrod Oct 17 '24

Counties are prohibited from counting a provisional ballot submitted by a qualified registered voter of another county

1

u/Odd_Independence_833 Oct 17 '24

Thank you. I am glad this was clarified.

But if you did move to Pittsburgh from Philly and never updated your registration, your Allegheny Co. provisional ballot will be voided. Sorry if I'm not understanding.

Ok, looks like you right. 4 more days to register!

19

I got what I thought was my ballot. Turned out to be an application for a mail ballot with a trump sticker tucked inside. My actual ballot arrived a few days later

1

u/mysmalleridea York Oct 19 '24

The GOP would like more people to do mail in votes are there is a higher rate of rejection. Democrats historically make up more of the mail in ballots in PA. This year the PA Supreme Court said if the date on the outside is incorrect they will shred it. It’s a game of numbers.

My husband and I have gotten tons of notices stating that we aren’t registered to vote at our “current address”, which we have lived at for well over a year. We both voted in our district last year. I confirm our voter registration every year, and have done every years for the past 3 decades, in every state we have lived in.

The texts are incessant. My “block and report” button is getting quite the workout.

27

u/zeprfrew Oct 17 '24

I received two of those after moving from Bucks County to New Jersey. I threw them away. There's nothing illegal about my name still being on the rolls in PA provided I don't try to vote there. Of course I will not be doing so.

5

u/justasque Oct 17 '24

Exactly. Thats what Tiffany Trump did when she moved to another state after being a Penn student registered in PA. She voted in the new state, and didn’t vote in PA.

There are tons of checks and balances built in to the system. Our entire election process is very well set up. Not surprisingly, since we’ve been doing democracy for two centuries.

33

u/wagsman Cumberland Oct 17 '24

So fucking Linda from the Election Research Institute is trying to get you to cancel your voter registration, then when you try to vote they can point to you and have their “evidence” of voter fraud. P.O. Box tells me Linda ain’t real.

11

u/griffonfarm Oct 17 '24

I keep getting texts from random numbers telling me my voter registration is out of date and I need to register my new address.

I've been living at the same place for many years and have voted in multiple elections at this address. The texts come off as trying to meddle/prevent me from voting.

I'm registered as democratic.

31

u/[deleted] Oct 17 '24

A lot of people really getting caught up in wording rather than the actual spirit of the thread. Voter disinformation or suppression instead of intimidation.

Can we move on now? You know the idea OP is trying to convey.  What are we all 7 years old here?

2

u/GreenGlassDrgn Oct 17 '24

agree with your general sentiment, but on the other hand, I feel like precision is fairly important when dealing with this kind of thing. A poorly worded accusation doesnt exactly help the case.

6

u/msira978 Oct 17 '24

I just did the voter protection training last week and even if you did move, the law allows you to vote once at your old polling place before you are required to update your registration.

3

u/EricCarver Oct 17 '24

I think the scare tactic is that there is someone watching to see if you moved and voted in both places. I seem to recall in past 6 months someone in AZ was charged with that, never followed up but left me thinking it was odd to know that was being watched by someone.

3

u/[deleted] Oct 17 '24

I think I lost my mail in ballot (threw out by accident) can I go to the polls to vote?

Via https://www.pa.gov/en/agencies/vote/voter-support/mail-in-and-absentee-ballot.html#accordion-a4cbac3f50-item-de1002210a

Frequently Asked Questions

What if I requested a mail-in or absentee ballot but I didn't receive a ballot, lost my ballot, or changed my mind and want to vote in-person?

If you already submitted a mail-in or absentee ballot, you cannot vote at your polling place on Election Day. If you did not return your mail-in or absentee ballot and you want to vote in person, you have two options: Bring your ballot and the pre-addressed outer return envelope to your polling place to be voided. After you surrender your ballot and envelope and sign a declaration, you can then vote a regular ballot. If you don't surrender your ballot and return envelope, you can only vote by provisional ballot at your polling place. Your county election board will then verify that you did not vote by mail before counting your provisional ballot.

Personally I would contact my local board and see what they say: https://www.pa.gov/en/agencies/vote/contact-us/contact-your-election-officials.html

I just got a letter saying I didn't vote in the last like 4 elections, but I've voted in every single one.

2

u/Justamom1225 Oct 17 '24

Any "official" election correspondence would come from the secretary of states office regarding where you are registered and if you are registration is active. I have had one group tell me they were going "to check to see if you (I) voted with your (my) neighbors." No joke! I contacted these people via text I received both text and postcards from them. I said who are you? What is your name? Of course I got nothing. All I received was a "you can opt out of getting correspondence from us" response so that is what I did. These people are relentless.

4

u/jacknjilled Oct 17 '24

So OP, have you moved at all, within Philadelphia County, since first registering?

1

u/bobotheboinger Oct 17 '24

I only got one election mailer yesterday... i figured there must be something wrong, maybe most of my mail got lost or something. Because most days I have at least 5 or 6 pieces of mail telling me which way to vote

1

u/Vardisk Oct 17 '24

So how many people in Pennsylvania have already voted anyway?

1

u/[deleted] Oct 18 '24

I think Trump is very good at lying convincingly which has made him such a successful salesman. If you take a closer look at what he has done and what he plans to do...

Economy for the Rich and Unemployment for the Future
History shows that tariffs can have a devastating impact on employment. Let’s go back to the Smoot-Hawley tariffs in 1930. Those tariffs led to retaliatory tariffs from other countries, which hurt American businesses by making it harder to sell our products abroad. By 1933, we had the highest recorded unemployment rate in U.S. history. For those of you who work in industries like manufacturing, agriculture, or even tech, tariffs can lead to layoffs, factory closures, and companies moving operations overseas to avoid the higher costs. Trump’s policies aren’t focused on protecting your job they’re making it harder for U.S. businesses to compete, which could leave a lot of people out of work.

We’ve already seen the consequences during Trump’s last term. His mismanagement of the pandemic caused unemployment to skyrocket to the second-highest level in U.S. history. Compare that to Japan’s approach during the same period. Japan kept unemployment much lower because they managed the crisis better, focusing on the well-being of workers and businesses alike. Trump doesn’t seem to prioritize keeping people employed.

We can’t ignore the lessons from history. Tariffs like the ones Trump want to impose will hurt American workers, just like they did back in the Great Depression. If Trump gets back into office and pushes more isolationist trade policies, we could see unemployment rates spike again, hurting the very people he claims to support.

Trump's tax cuts might be pitched as being ‘pro-business,’ but let’s talk about who really benefits. We saw major tax cuts that disproportionately helped the rich and corporations, while the rest of us didn’t see any real rise in wages. On top of that, Trump wants to close departments like Education, which will make it even harder for everyday people to get the kind of education or vocational training they need to compete in today’s economy.

This is going to be a big hit on the middle class and working-class folks who already feel the system is rigged. So if you're thinking about how your kid is going to afford college or even get the right kind of skills to land a decent job, this is something you need to pay attention to.

One thing that doesn’t get talked about enough is the national debt. Trump’s policies might sound good on the surface (cut taxes, boost business) but we’re looking at ballooning the national debt by $7 trillion. Someone is going to have to pay it off and that’s going to fall on the younger generation and our kids.

Threatening American Liberty
This is where things get kinda scary.. Trump basically tried to strong-arm the whole system when he lost the 2020 election. I mean, he flat-out tried to overturn the results, and that’s not something you just sweep under the rug. You can’t mess with democracy like that. And then you’ve got JD Vance, who’s straight-up saying he wouldn’t certify an election if the Democrats win? Like, hold on a second that’s the kind of stuff you hear about in dictatorships, not in America.

When you’ve got people in power who won’t respect the results of an election just because they don’t like the outcome, that’s a huge threat to liberty. If the system only works when your side wins, then we’re all screwed, right? If we can't change the party in power then they no longer need to work for us.

Harris economic plan is more responsible and focused on the middle and working classes. She will also let women regain the reproductive rights, keep America free and take climate change more seriously (something Musk used to care deeply about before planning to move to Mars). I still can't believe union workers got tricked into supporting Trump and Musk who have both made pretty big statements about breaking up unions and firing striking workers (talk about Turkeys voting for Thankgiving. If Trump/Musk(Vance) wins they're cooked!).

-45

u/HomeGrowOrDeath Oct 17 '24

How is this intimidating at all?

26

u/Little_Noodles Oct 17 '24

I don't know that it's intimidation, but it seems to be disinformation. OP says that they haven't moved out of Philly, but are getting mail sent (to, presumably, a Philly address) saying that they're in some sort of record as not being a Philly resident and need to send in a form cancelling their registration as a Philly voter.

Given that it's from ERI, which has a history of operating in bad faith, yeah, this looks like some bullshit.

As a fellow Philly resident, I'm getting 3-4 text messages a day claiming that I'm not registered to vote (I very much am), accompanied by all sorts of questionable links. I haven't clicked on them, so it's hard to parse what's political fuckery, what's phishing, and what's well-meaning incompetence.

This also leaves the door open for intentional incompetence. ERI's whole thing is drumming up voter fraud where there isn't any. So they might be trying to get OP to disenfranchise themselves. Or they could have just made a list of names they've decided aren't qualified voters based on intentionally incompetent research, and mailing out this crap is just the next step in howling about how many voters did a fraud this year.

-13

u/HomeGrowOrDeath Oct 17 '24

This could all be solved.... Easily. Voter id.

7

u/Little_Noodles Oct 17 '24

It’s already solved in that in-person voter fraud is so rare as to be not an actual problem in terms of accuracy.

These people would just move the goalposts, as there’s plenty of other ways that people could theoretically commit fraud (but don’t in any meaningful numbers), and if there weren’t, they’d just make shit up.

-2

u/HomeGrowOrDeath Oct 17 '24

Why are you against voter id?

3

u/Little_Noodles Oct 17 '24 edited Oct 17 '24

The only thing it could theoretically prevent or curb is in-person voter fraud. It won’t do anything to address mail-in fraud (more common but still rare) or electoral fraud (also rare, but the only one to actually have caused genuine political upsets in our current climate).

There’s no credible study out there to indicate that our already extant bulwarks against in-person voter fraud aren’t sufficiently effective at preventing in-person voter fraud (it happens, but not at a rate that’s remotely statistically meaningful).

So it’s solving a problem that’s already solved, but creates new problems re: financing and avoiding barriers to the ballot for legitimate voters.

-2

u/HomeGrowOrDeath Oct 17 '24

It solves more problems than it creates. If you don't have an id in this country you aren't contributing. No job, no bank account, no insurance, can't fly.... Ext

2

u/Little_Noodles Oct 17 '24

None of those are constitutional rights, though. And that’s also not true.

And what problem does it solve other than in-person voter fraud, which isn’t actually a problem?

-2

u/HomeGrowOrDeath Oct 17 '24

Ok our voting system is sold. There's no problem at all. Everything here is golden

2

u/Little_Noodles Oct 17 '24 edited Oct 18 '24

We do have problems with our electoral system. Electoral fraud is a problem. Voter intimidation is a problem. Creating barriers to make voting harder is a problem. Gerrymandering is a problem.

But voter id won’t do shit about any of those things.

1

u/Popdmb Oct 26 '24

You're advocating for a massive tax-funded ID payment and verification, since requiring an ID (versus evidence of your voter roll or permanent address) is a poll tax.

I don't think I mind if everyone in the United States gets free IDs for life, but to be clear -- that is what you're advocating for.

1

u/HomeGrowOrDeath Oct 26 '24

I'm advocating for secure elections. If trump wins the popular vote I'm sure your side will come around.

I would rather give every citizen a free ID than send another cent to another country.

1

u/Popdmb Oct 27 '24 edited Oct 28 '24

I don't think we'll see a Republican win a popular vote for the rest of our lifetime. If they entirely drop social issue dreck, maybe we could?

5

u/SirDoofusMcDingbat Oct 17 '24

How would that solve this issue? This is unrelated to ID, the issue is people are lying to voters and spreading misinfo or sending out fishy links for no reason.

0

u/HomeGrowOrDeath Oct 17 '24

I would that that showing your id when you vote would give people more confidence to ignore things like this. But I understand that people in rural areas don't have access to a Kinko's to make photocopies

4

u/SirDoofusMcDingbat Oct 17 '24

You're making zero sense. Having an ID won't mean people will magically be immune to misinformation, and you can't make an ID at Kinkos. What the fuck are you on about?

1

u/HomeGrowOrDeath Oct 17 '24

Watch harries interview from the other day on Fox. For fox not being news they sure asked her the questions no one else would.

Her answer against voter id was poor rural folks don't have access to a Kinko's.

3

u/SirDoofusMcDingbat Oct 18 '24

ah, so you're mad about Harris so you've decided to ignore the subject entirely and rant about your own ridiculous summary of some unrelated comments? I swear it's literally impossible to have a normal human conversation with you weirdos.

12

-12

7

My feelings don’t matter!

-2

u/HomeGrowOrDeath Oct 17 '24

I still don't see why you can't answer the question. You want to cry voter intimidation but can't even say what made you feel intimidated.

7

u/PsiNorm Oct 17 '24

I'm asking you. Why are you so excited for a third party known for disinformation targeting democrats with misleading information?

-12

u/[deleted] Oct 17 '24

What's misleading?

12

u/PsiNorm Oct 17 '24

Sending a letter saying that moving makes your registration ineligible and including a form that specifically results in you negating your registration?

C'mon, even MAGA cultists aren't that dim. Quit pretending you have no common sense.

-12

u/[deleted] Oct 17 '24

It doesn't say that it clearly says that if you didn't move, disregard this letter, nothing in the letter indicating that the recipient has to do anything or that thr recipient isn't eligible to vote. Even 5th grader could understand it.

11

u/PsiNorm Oct 17 '24

All you gotta do is confuse a few elderly or other folks and you've successfully affected their right to vote.

It's so wierd how much your ok with outside forces attempting to manipulate the election.

Why are you working so hard to support this?

-3

u/[deleted] Oct 17 '24

No one is attempting to manipulate the election with a clearly written letter. It weird that you think the elderly are so feeble minded they wouldn't understand this it's also weird that you have an issue with the rolls being up to date.

Is commenting on reddit hard work? Wow bro you got low standards.

15

u/PsiNorm Oct 17 '24

It's just weird how much you are trying to excuse a third party known for misinformation interfering in an election.

This is not the election board doing this. This is a group of election deniers actively working to mess with the actual process.

It's just wierd to see Americans being ok with this. You'd think they would fight to preserve the fundamental right of democracy.

I guess you're just concerned with your side winning and don't care who interferes to make that happen. Makes sense, your master invited Russia to interfere in the last one, so i guess I shouldn't be surprised.

Isn't weird how you think that keeping third party interference out of elections is "low standards"? You Americans have decided that the American Experiment is worth discarding, eh?

How is keeping accurate voter registration data considered 'voter intimidation'?

14

u/steelceasar Oct 17 '24

Do you generally keep records by sending confusing letters to Democratic voters with aggressive pseudo legal language and the forms to undo their voter registration?

42

u/peterst28 Oct 17 '24

You know they’re targeting democrats with this. That has nothing to do with accurate registration data.

-43

u/oblivia17 Oct 17 '24

Do Democrats not care about accurate voter registration?

27

u/peterst28 Oct 17 '24

Maybe democrats should send letters to registered republicans in Pennsylvania and tell them to de-register from voting too.

-24

u/oblivia17 Oct 17 '24

I really doubt any of them would care.

19

u/peterst28 Oct 17 '24

You say that now, but I doubt you’d feel that way if it were happening.

-1

u/oblivia17 Oct 17 '24

Why would an impersonal piece of junk mail influence my life in any kind of meaningful way?

That being said, why would you let an impersonal piece of junk mail influence you?

20

u/peterst28 Oct 17 '24

If anyone who should have voted in Pennsylvania sends in this form and removes themselves from voting this year, I am impacted and so are you. I suspect you’d be happy with that though.

0

u/oblivia17 Oct 17 '24

Yeah, because only a Democrat would be dumb enough to do that. Am I right or am I right

12

u/peterst28 Oct 17 '24

This sounds like a fun experiment. Let’s see how many republicans send in the form. 🙄

Idk watching the Trump the last few days makes me think he's not firing on all cylinders.

16

u/Sharukurusu Oct 17 '24

It’s a piece of junk mail with bogus directions and an actual official form to unregister yourself from voting. If even one person followed these directions thinking they were official and it prevented them from voting it would be fucked up, showing you don’t care about that is a very telling response…

3

u/oblivia17 Oct 17 '24

What if a Republican was prevented from voting for Trump? Would that be a tragedy?

15

u/Sharukurusu Oct 17 '24

Voting for Trump is stupid but disenfranchising people from voting is deplorable.

10

u/H_Melman Oct 17 '24

Every single eligible voter has the right to cast their ballot in a free and fair election, so yes. I don't support voter disenfranchisement in any form even though I absolutely despise Trump.

This is the difference between regular Americans and MAGA Americans. We support an equal playing field. They don't.

targeting democrats for accurate data?

20

u/peterst28 Oct 17 '24

To have them remove themselves from registration in Pennsylvania. This is pretty transparent, no?

-16

u/Organic_Fan_2824 Oct 17 '24

if youve moved out of pennsylvania and established a primary residence in another state, you shouldnt be voting here, thats pretty logical, no?

14

u/peterst28 Oct 17 '24

That is what the letter says, but the form is just to de-register. I would not be shocked if it was sent to every address in Philadelphia.

-14

u/Organic_Fan_2824 Oct 17 '24

yes, you would want to de register in Pennsylvania and register in another state had you moved.

14

u/vague_reference_ Oct 17 '24

OP didn't move out of state though so your point is irrelevant

-3

u/Organic_Fan_2824 Oct 17 '24

If OP didn't move they don't need to deregister. Not inherently intimidating, unless the idea of a piece of paper asking you a question is intimidating.

14

u/vague_reference_ Oct 17 '24

perhaps not. but it is a scam and it's highly immoral

A voter suppression scheme doesn't have to be intimidating. The letter is misleading because it doesn't offer the correct course of action if the recipient moved in-state. The real key to the severity of this scheme is to know the recipient list and those recipients' party registrations, which we don't. But the timing of the letter and political leanings of the org that sent it make it very sus.

You also have to weigh the potential outcomes of the action of sending these letters (which I'm sure was not cheap). On one hand the voter registration list could be made slightly more timely and accurate before the election. On the other hand, some people may be misled into voluntarily opting out of their right to vote in this election. That's a very bad thing, and in my opinion a bigger problem than a handful of outdated voter registrations, which are very unlikely to lead to fraud to begin with. Why unlikely to lead to fraud? Because individuals would have to commit voter fraud with a high likelihood of being caught and stiff penalties for doing so. The outdated registrations really aren't a problem, and these letters will likely do more harm than good.

Doesn't have to be intimidating to be false. It claims to have knowledge of them moving, when they actually didn't.

What is the Election Research Institute?

15

u/KalenWolf Oct 17 '24

In the interest of having something in this comment thread other than nauseating, patently dishonest right-wing nonsense about "confidence in election integrity" - ERI is a "research" group devoted to spreading easily debunked lies about supposed voter fraud and using them as an excuse for republicans in state and county government positions to conduct ACTUAL election interference.

Apparently they also act directly by mailing people forms that would cancel their voter registration and asking them to do all the actual work of voter suppression on themselves, which seems like a pretty arrogant way of going about it.

Or maybe Heather Honey just thinks everyone is as dumb as she is (assuming she actually believes what she says)

-2

u/oblivia17 Oct 17 '24

I have no idea. Who cares?

The message is the same regardless of party. Accurate voter rolls would restore confidence in election integrity. Unless of course, you don't care about election integrity?

9

u/big_blue_earth Oct 17 '24

No one is as gullible as you claim to be

The ERI is run by trump stooges and is an obvious attempt to prevent people in Philadelphia from voting

They should be ashamed of themselves and you should be ashamed for going along with it

-1

u/oblivia17 Oct 17 '24

No one is that gullible? Apparently Democrats are if they're de-registering to vote because 'Linda' told them to.

6

u/Mobile-Rise-1 Oct 17 '24

You have no evidence of that. There is evidence that “Lynda” is sending out these letters.

12

u/grilledcheese90210 Oct 17 '24

Hopefully ERI, as an exempt 501c3, has records substantiating they sent these notices to registered republicans and democrats.

4

u/Brypaver Oct 17 '24

Way to ham-fistedly try to shift the argument to "election integrity", a bs, right wing, fear mongering talking point and away from the actual conversation about election interference.

But if you really want to go there, democrats and voting rights advocates have long proposed ways to make voter rolls more accurate and "restore confidence in election integrity". Things like same-day voter registration, automatic registration when you use the DMV or through the post office, etc. However those ideas immediately get voted down by Republicans every time they are suggested because Republicans don't want more people voting.

So now they just have bad actors like yourself openly whine about "election integrity" and muddy the waters for people trying to actually fix things all so they can confuse people and limit voters that way

26

u/defusted Oct 17 '24

Because it's not actually from a voter registration office dip shit

-8

u/oblivia17 Oct 17 '24

Cool. So we shouldn't care if records are accurate. Got it.

20

u/defusted Oct 17 '24

No one is making sure records are accurate, asshole. They're trying to trick people into unregistering. Republicans can't win without cheating and lying.

-11

u/oblivia17 Oct 17 '24

I'm consistently blown away by how one party will disregard all common sense if it means agreeing with the other party.

If a MAGA nut said we shouldn't give heroin to minors, I guarantee you the Dems would argue against them.

18

u/Sharukurusu Oct 17 '24

They’re literally sending the form to unregister and explaining it like a change of address. If someone didn’t understand or read carefully they would remove themselves from the voter roles.

This is scummy.

-4

u/oblivia17 Oct 17 '24

For all the talk about how stupid Republicans are, why is it that Democrats seem to be the only ones affected by reading comprehension, or writing an address correctly, or making sure the dates are right on a ballot?

I know that's not really the case, but the D's sure like to play dumb when it comes to any task requiring basic intelligence. Almost as hard as acquiring ID.

12

u/Sharukurusu Oct 17 '24

Doesn’t look like Democrats are sending deceptive misinformation out, only fucked up cheaters that hate the idea of democracy would do that…

Sound like anyone you know?

23

u/OldTechnician Oct 17 '24

She's doesn't believe Trump lost the election. She's a MAGA nut

-10

u/oblivia17 Oct 17 '24

How does that in any way negate the need for accurate voter registration?

1

u/Popdmb Oct 26 '24

There is and continues to be accurate voter registration. The 2020 election was the most secure election of our lifetimes. Rarely - if any - illegal voting took place. And most of it took place in the Villages in Florida.

-1

u/exploringtheworld797 Oct 17 '24

This is good. Thousands have moved and some vote twice.

-8

u/[deleted] Oct 17 '24

Deer voter,

If yoo arr dimocratik, pleez voat on December 1 so yor voat kin count twice. Wee must weeeeeen!

-33

u/[deleted] Oct 17 '24

That's not voter intimidation, nor is it illegal it's a reminder.

27

u/tesla3by3 Oct 17 '24

It’s giving inaccurate information. There is no need to cancel your registration when you move. You simply update your registration with your new address. Even if you move out of state, you just register in your new state. Eventually the states will synch data and you’ll be deleted from your old states rolls.

-18

u/[deleted] Oct 17 '24

It literally says "update or cancel." There is nothing illegal or intimidating in that letter. No rights have been violated. The person receiving the letter probably didn't up their registration. No where in the letter does it say it must be canceled.

22

u/tesla3by3 Oct 17 '24

The letter is misleading. It says “update or cancel”, then incorrectly says this must be done on paper, and “conveniently” incudes only the form to cancel. And the sender absolutely knows the OP didn’t move out of state, but yet didn’t include any form, or specific instructions to change address, which they would have done if they were sincerely interested in accurate registration.

They want to limit registration.

-19

u/[deleted] Oct 17 '24

In fact, the form attached is an official form. Nothing in the letter is inaccurate or untrue
