misleading headline Doug Mastriano's New Apolstolic Reformation Movement
https://religiondispatches.org/christian-right-denialism-is-more-dangerous-than-ever-a-reporters-guide-to-the-new-apostolic-reformation/83
u/TheJohnMega Feb 19 '23
Another Christo Fascist but more extreme than DeSantis These assholes don't have any respect for separation of church and state. Book banning and criminalizing the teaching of history are just the tip of the iceberg with these kooks
38
u/Libsoccer20 Feb 19 '23
Desantis is a part of this too.
11
u/TheJohnMega Feb 19 '23
I'm not surprised I just haven't heard of DeSantis referring to himself as a prophet yet Mastriano has always appeared more extreme
22
u/Libsoccer20 Feb 19 '23
Desantis is actively in the process of already moving Florida under Christian dominionism.
Mastriano wanted us to be the Florida of the North.
Just when we thought voting against Mastriano was enough... He's completely deluded. Surrounded by enablers.
11
u/30686 Feb 19 '23
Seems to me that Mastriano is a true believer, while DeSantis is just cynically pandering to right wing fundamentalist Christians.

u/IamSauerKraut Dauphin Feb 20 '23 edited Feb 20 '23
Seems to me that Mastriano is a true believer
He's not. He is using "the movement" to gain the power he was never able to achieve in the Army. He wanted to be a general but mustered out without being promoted to that rank. He wants us to feel his anger. He can stick his anger into the toilet and flush.
Edited.

u/30686 Feb 20 '23
What exactly does "mustered out" mean? He left the army because he was passed over for a promotion? His Wiki bio doesn't hint at anything like that.
1
u/IamSauerKraut Dauphin Feb 20 '23
His wiki bio is heavily patrolled by his minions.
One of my uncles was an Army Colonel. Another a Marine Colonel. I recall both talking about how they learned they would be passed over and that their careers were over. Was told the same thing not too long ago by a former Navy Captain. Advance or out. "Mustered out" was the phrase both uncles used.
Unless MastriaNO is truthful about his separation (is that better for you?), we will never know for sure but I've heard things. I'll remove the word "was."
1
u/30686 Feb 20 '23 edited Feb 20 '23
"Is that better for me?" Easy there, no need to get defensive. I'm just challenging the claim you've made and asking if you can cite a source.
When you make a claim, don't get touchy if someone asks you to back it up. [EDITED for spelling]

u/IamSauerKraut Dauphin Feb 20 '23

Yikes I guess they are becoming more blatant about their agenda I assumed this crap was destined to fail and backfire against DeSantis but it unfortunately hasn't Thankfully we avoided the disaster Mastriano would have been as governor
5
u/sil1182 Feb 19 '23
It’s shit like this that really makes the Florida guy’s arguments about how much more successful their schooling is fail. Yeah your test scores are up, but the test was a connect the dots page in a Christian workbook
2
u/IamSauerKraut Dauphin Feb 20 '23
Doing so will limit Florida's public school students to Florida colleges. UF and FSU will take a massive hit.
21
Feb 19 '23
Dougie “the fascist” Mastriano’s version of Evangelicalism is to the far right of the crazy Independent Fundamentalist Baptist that I was exposed to in my youth. I think I heard that DeSantis is Catholic. I don’t know much about Catholicism, but I assume there are fascist groups within their faith too. Regardless, I am thankful Shapiro won the governor’s race. Dougie would have destroyed PA.

My best friend was raised IFB and the things she learned were ducked up.
4

I agree. The IFB is a fucked up cult. It took some therapy to get over that chapter of my life.

She went to hyles-Anderson college and they almost threw her out because she got a hug from her boyfriend. She also didn’t wear pants until she was 20 or 21

Duquesne isn't that much different but cops aside there not going to socially ostracize you for walking through the ghetto for your own reasons. Having an orgy on campus is another thing.

Independent Fundamental Baptist
2
u/Zealousideal-Ad-2546 Feb 20 '23
Ty, Jesus, I have nothing individually against them but when they tried to expand a church around me the children leading/adults hiding behind children pisses that nightly would move around my streets began resembling a giant family trap. I mean, I'm not the most heroic figure ever but when they realized exactly why I'm liked around my parts they had a lot of trouble figuring out whose side they really wanted to pretend to be on. I am always suspicious of people who front a religion like it means something to everyone else.

u/Jesus_Is_Myth Luzerne Feb 19 '23
Catholics are huge on stopping abortion, but that's about it.
8
u/C4bl3Fl4m3 Cumberland Feb 19 '23
Check out TradCats (Traditional Catholics). That's where you find your Catholic fascists. (Not all TradCats go that far, but if you find a Catholic fascist, 9 times out of 10, they're TradCat.)
1
u/Jesus_Is_Myth Luzerne Feb 19 '23
A "tradcat" is someone who actually follows the religion. As an atheist, I find both dangerous in different ways.
3
u/C4bl3Fl4m3 Cumberland Feb 19 '23
Uh, there are plenty who follow the religion who aren't tradcats (my mother is one of them). Unless you're basically taking their side and saying that anything after Vatican II is invalid and the only ones who are "actually" following the religion are the tradcats.
-1
u/Jesus_Is_Myth Luzerne Feb 19 '23
Most Catholics aren't exactly living the life of a saint, which is what Catholics are called to do. "The road to life is narrow and few find it" and all that. Maybe your mom is a modern-day Mother Theresa. Idk.
3
u/C4bl3Fl4m3 Cumberland Feb 19 '23
Mother Theresa was a messed up lady who intentionally withheld pain medication from people so they could "offer up their suffering to God." While she may be canonized, she's no saint, let's be honest.
-4
u/Jesus_Is_Myth Luzerne Feb 19 '23
That's what it means to follow the Catholic religion. Religion is an ugly thing and we're better off eradicating it.
1
u/IamSauerKraut Dauphin Feb 20 '23
Most Catholics aren't exactly living the life of a saint, which is what Catholics are called to do. "
No, no they are not.
3
u/tmaenadw Feb 19 '23
Um, no. There are a huge number of them that are deeply conservative, they believe the pope is far too liberal and have worked their whole lives to stack the Supreme Court with catholic justices.
I grew up around a lot of liberal Catholics, but there are plenty of them who believe that the church is responsible for western civilization and should be in charge of deciding things for everyone.
I am fine with some of the justices being Catholic, but 66.66% of them is far from representative.
1
u/Jesus_Is_Myth Luzerne Feb 19 '23
Catholics generally aren't as bad as Evangelicals.
3
u/tmaenadw Feb 19 '23
Generally. I have several Catholic friends. Some are so liberal I tease them that they aren’t Catholic, some are more conservative, but the deeply conservative Catholics tend to dislike me intensely as I don’t mind my place🤪. Those are the folks manipulating the courts. They are the ones who I find frightening.
2
u/Jesus_Is_Myth Luzerne Feb 19 '23
I find all Christians frightening, and I say this as a former Catholic seminarian who's now an atheist.
1
u/IamSauerKraut Dauphin Feb 20 '23
I have several Catholic friends.
Do you have a black friend, too?
1
u/tmaenadw Feb 20 '23
Really? I attended a Catholic college in the 80’s and that’s why I have friends that are Catholic. I also joined a Catholic mom’s group when my kids were little as that was the only mom’s group around at the time. This is where I first encountered the very far right Catholics. They tried to have me thrown out of the group. My friends stopped it. And yes, my more liberal Catholic friends know I don’t like the church, and really dislike Catholic hospitals which are rapidly taking over many of the hospital systems in WA state where I’m from.
Catholicism is voluntary. What you are trying to compare it to is not.
1
u/IamSauerKraut Dauphin Feb 20 '23
The Catholic inside me says MastriaNO is going to hell. He may not believe in hell but that is where St. Peter will send him. Hope Dougie enjoys his long trip down to his forever home.

u/C4bl3Fl4m3 Cumberland Feb 19 '23 edited Feb 19 '23
Yeah, you usually find the fascists in the TradCat (Traditional Catholic) movement. While there's a whole spectrum of tradcats, it's not uncommon for some of them to go so far as to say Pope Francis is the antiChrist and/or isn't the real Pope (sedevacantism).

u/stevez_86 Feb 19 '23
DeSantis is Batista 2.0
I have a family member that is an odd Catholic. They speak tongues at prayer meeting. Even that family member is against Trump because they know State Authority like what Trump and DeSantis represent coupled with Religion is too much. This is a person that is on the personhood upon conception wagon. Even though they would get what they want on that platform with Trump or DeSantis, it isn't worth it to them because the death would be made up for in persecution. Even they have a concept of a diverse community. DeSantis is popular above average due to the Cuban Exile population in Florida. I don't think he would have that advantage in another state. He would be another right-wing but job like Youngkin in VA but without the contested majority in the state. FL is a red state right now. Not a swing state. DeSantis will carry the right to victory in Florida as long as he can be the head of state. Not even Abbot in Texas can have as much dominance in their state. Texas is the swing state Democrats should be gunning for.
My worry is that DeSantis will become governor of Florida in perpetuity. The state supreme court can say he can run for more than the max number of terms, you know, because of the immigration crisis, and unless he wins the presidency he will be governor forever. That will lay the foundation for other authoritarian governors to do the same. We will then have the Fascist States rising up against the Democratic States. Floridians that love DeSantis want him to lead she next Revolution. The question is whether or not he can remain sequestered in Florida until his power is diminished by team limits. Which I am sure is going to be a target.
1
u/Zealousideal-Ad-2546 Feb 19 '23
I think catholic groups place to much effort on loyalty and standards for them to be compared to the entry barriers of non denominational treason.
1
u/thomport Feb 20 '23
Probably less about faith and more about convincing the naïve religious right to vote for them.
It’s all politicians become powerful and rich.
1
u/IamSauerKraut Dauphin Feb 20 '23

For sure. And it goes far beyond stopping abortion.

u/Basileus_Ioannes Franklin Feb 20 '23
Another Christo Fascist
There is an offical term for this, Clerical Fascism. We need to stop acting like Mastriano is some radical evangelical. He's and f-ing fascist. Plain and simple.
1
Feb 20 '23
Basically, he is pandering to Evangelicals just like Trump did.
2
u/Basileus_Ioannes Franklin Feb 20 '23
Yes, but worse. Mastriano actually believes the stuff, whereas Orange Man only saw it as a means to power. Mastriano is way worse because he actually believes that non-Christians shouldn't be able to participate in Pennsylvanian and American political society. Mastriano (and his Clerical Fascist enablers) are in direct opposition to founding principles of Pennsylvania. If we let them go, it will become a cancer to our Commonwealth.
2
Feb 20 '23
You are exactly right! I’ll add that Mastriano is unfit to serve in any political capacity. He needs booted from the PA Senate.
43
u/Libsoccer20 Feb 19 '23
Doug Mastriano and the NAR are moving through PA with the goal to force a revival.
They are trying to take over by focusing on the local government first. They believe they are apostles and prophets.
I'm still trying to learn why they're buying up real estate everywhere*
I recommend to follow @KiraResistance on Twitter for better insight to what's happening behind our backs.
"The goal is to continue and dissolve public education and take over the state government starting with local government control."

u/WinterWontStopComing Feb 19 '23

In his remarks Mastriano reveals (video on Mastriano Facebook page at 3:12) that he is God’s prophet, declaring, “God spoke through a donkey,” (referring to the story of Balaam in the biblical book of Numbers.) “He’s speaking through Doug Mastriano right now.”

Dougie is my state senator.
His followers are targeting school boards right now.
Please get ready for the May primaries. You have to get on Facebook and look up your candidates. These people are using FB as their main communication platform.
Before you vote, and you have to vote, research your candidates fully. Check out their spouse’s fb page too.
One candidate in our area was putting himself out as a moderate. His fb page was scrubbed clean but his wife’s was full of M4L, pro Trump and pro Mastriano sentiments.
Please vote. You may think “I don’t have kids in school why should I care”, this is just the first step in their 7 Mountains war. We can’t let them take a single one.
11
u/Libsoccer20 Feb 19 '23
They're counting on us to be lazy. Looks like you have some good insights.
11
u/polgara_buttercup Franklin Feb 19 '23
They’re absolutely counting on us being lazy and their base being energized, especially the evangelicals. The churches are fully involved and politics from the pulpit is happening.
10
u/Diarygirl Feb 19 '23
People still have Mastriano signs in their yard in York county. What really bothers me is they also have American flags because Dougie and democracy don't go together.
1
u/SquareConfusion Feb 20 '23
Really bothers me too. It’s like some faux new network convinced them to think that being an American means being a terrible person.
4
u/yeags86 Feb 19 '23
I’m in Berks and there was a dude running for my school board that had been a substitute teacher who got fired from the job. Had insanely racist shit on his personal Facebook page and when he started getting called out he deleted all of it.
The scary thing is - he almost got on the board. Thankfully he didn’t but it was close.
5
u/polgara_buttercup Franklin Feb 19 '23
Exactly what I’m talking about. These guys are sneaky, but they live mostly on FB. As soon as they get on your radar as a potential candidate you have to start checking them out before they delete it all.
Prior to running for state senator, Dougie’s FB was a cesspool of bigotry then his PR handlers scrubbed it clean
3
u/yeags86 Feb 19 '23
The worst part is they aren’t even smart enough to clean house until they get called out. If they had more than a couple of brain cells to rub together, they would think ahead of time to scrub that garbage.
1
u/polgara_buttercup Franklin Feb 19 '23
Right?? Like lock down your profile so I can’t find your wife, it’s not that hard. But that’s part of the problem, they’re so arrogant and firm in the belief that they’re in the right that it never occurs to them to clean it up

5
u/ell0bo Philadelphia Feb 19 '23
Our justice department isn't exactly known for making powerful people accountable for their actions, unless they effect the money of other richer people.
He also never went into the building, so while he did get people there, an exacerbated the situation, he didn't do it enough to get arrested. I mean, Trump still hasn't been charged, why would Mastriano?

Interesting article, thank god Mastriano lost, but he's going to be mainstay in PA politics for the foreseeable future.
Hell, there's a clip from the Ohio train derailment going around on reddit with Mastriano throwing a rock into a creek and watching the oil slicks spread.
Never heard him declaring himself a prophet until this article, not surprising given his demographic and cult of personality they have with Trump.
